  1. Excellent article, Jeremy. A lot to think about and agree with everything you said. Looking forward to what you have coming.
  2. Interesting that you didn't include 18-year old Anthony Escobar with the GCL group, Seth. He was a starter last year in the DSL and started a couple games for the GCL Twins before doing long relief his last two times out. His 1.84 ERA is second best among the five starters with 2 or more starts and his 0.61 WHIP is the best...and yes, this is a small sample size. Personally, I would put him amongst the better prospects in the organization, although knowing he is very young and a long ways off. But that's just me.
  3. Any news on what Rooker's injury is and how long he will be out? Don't know what Wiel's future is with the Twins with Cron ahead of him and Diaz one step behind. Do you know why Sammons only went 2 innings? Results didn't look all that bad. Saw that Larnach was in left field with Kirilloff in right. Expect one will be a Twin in a couple years and the other probably gone to another club...unless one is moved to first base. Was that Benninghoff's longest start in his professional career? Great seeing that young man starting to get some positive results. Also curious to see Escobar coming out of the bullpen for multiple innings. Looks like the Escobar we know was on the mound in his second relief appearance. So that's three great appearances and one clunker since coming stateside.
  4. Way to sloppy to win. Pineda was all over the place early and never really got all that sharp. Defense played like they have been off for a week...Sano, Kepler and Schoop's error. Add in Castro who seemed out of it all night. Toss in the inability to get that big hit when needed and you have a winnable game move into the loss column. Will be interesting to see if they get after it today...or will they lose three for the first time this year?
  5. Speaking of this stretch, they will be helped if Buxton is healthy and both Rosario and Cron come off the IL by tonight...or before the A's for Cron. My question is who is going down when that happens? Expect Cave goes when Rosario is activated. But who goes when Cron comes back? If it comes down to sending Arraez down or getting rid of Adrianza, I don't see them DFA'ing Adrianza for 5 weeks of Arraez. I also don't see them sending Arraez down as he has been playing too bloddy well. Do they cut back to 12 pitchers for a few weeks? If so, the low man of the totem pole, experience wise, is Littell and he has pitched better than several others. Will there be a trade in the next few days involving someone from the 25-man roster? Strap on your stirrups, it is gonna be one fun ride for the next couple weeks...both on the field and off!
  6. Not looking at this as one series, rather looking at the entire 9 game homestand versus the Mets, A's and Yankees. Will be happy if we have a winning homestand, 5-4, then move on to August and a playoff run.
  7. What a fantastic morning seeing the big night Javier had. Only problem is it was on a day when the opposing hurlers were serving up balls that everyone was hitting. Now lets see him put a streak of good games together to ignite his finish to this season. Bit disappointing seeing Jax have his second consecutive so-so game. Any word on his health? Great seeing Smeltzer put up another great start. Could he be part of the Twins rotation in 2020? Or could he be elsewhere next week?
  8. Stashak is someone that has flown under the radar for some time, at least for me. Looking at his numbers, the higher up the ladder he climbs the better he has done until he is now pitching his best as a pro in AAA. Could he be the one to make it AND make a difference? Your thoughts, Cody? Stashak was Rule 5 eligible last year and wasn't selected. Expect there is a bigger risk this year? There are a handful of players who are at risk of being lost in the Rule 5, players they won't have room to protect. Will be very disappointed if the Twins don't trade at least a couple of these bubble guys for lower level prospects from A or rookie ball.
  9. Thanks for an excellent update on the Kernels, SD. One question that I'll bet many are thinking about deals with Javier. It seems like he hasn't had a hit in as long as I can remember (2 hits in his last 10 games and 4-64 in the second half). I assume you see a lot of their games. Does he look like someone who can be a good hitter and is just having the worst streak imaginable? Or is something broken that needs a big fix? The Twins are going to have several 40-man roster candidates who won't get added this November. Will Javier be one of them?
  10. Great seeing big games from both Larnach and Kirilloff. Looks like we can put our concerns about Kirilloff behind us. Just took him awhile to settle in after battling that wrist injury the first two plus months of the season. I will second Aerodeliria's comment above for Kirilloff, please don't trade him!
  11. I have stated I would be happy had we won one of three this weekend. I am more than happy with two wins. I will be elated should the Twins sweep the Tribe. Speaking of the Tribe, today's game may be the biggest game of the year for them. Lose three out of the break to fall 8.5 back of the Twins and their hopes to win the division may be toast...burnt toast. Still get antsy when both Duffey and Parker are on the mound. Duffey had that deer in the headlights look again last night. Does anyone have a pill filled with confidence they can give him?
  12. I think I saw Rogers warm up an inning earlier, when Parker was trying to find the strike zone. Watched the game and can't remember the exact score in the 7th, but it was closer if I am not disremembering.
  13. Agree that his push ups were bush. But you throw at his body if you are sending a message, not at his or anyone else's head.
  14. Has anyone looked at how much those 23 teams were over? Someone could have gone over by just a few thousand to be included amongst those 23. So spending 100% of this year's allotment may not be all that different than some/most of those 23. I don't understand all the angst about the Twins spending 100% of their allotment this year. When I look at their picks, I see they signed 32 of 41. That's a lot more than most/all years before last year. They signed all of their first 26 picks except the Canadian lefty taken in the 17th round. Who would you want them to sign that they didn't? And are you certain that pick could be signed for $445,000 ($125,000 max plus $320,000 (5% of allotment))? I just don't understand all the griping about this year's draft.
  15. Seeing that Rochester score last night, I assumed Thorpe had a disappointing start. NOT! 73 pitches in 4.0 innings is a bit much, but everything else was good, very good. Gotta believe this kid has a future in the Twins rotation. Also a nice surprise to see Balazovic pitch last night, especially with his normal results. Thorpe, a healthy Graterol and Balazovic. Let's hope at least two of the three turn out to be above average starters. If I were the commissioner of the Florida State League, the Bradenton pitcher wouldn't see the mound until August, mid-August at the earliest. That pitch At his head was just plain B.S.
  16. What a win. I know I thought the game was lost after not scoring a couple times in the middle innings when we had chances. Trevor May looks to me like a guy that should be a shut down reliever. Big, strong guy who throws hard. Plus, being a former starter he has several good pitches to work with. If he can build on his recent performances and become that dominant late inning guy we thought we had, this bullpen isn't that far from being very good. One trade for a very good short reliever who isn't a rental and on to the playoffs with the guys that got'em there. Well, maybe also a lefty rental to replace Mejia. So I guess that's two moves, but only one should cost any serious prospects.
  17. That's not entirely true. You can go over your allotment by 5% with what I understand is a 75% cash penalty. The Twins allotment this year was what, $6,400,000 something, so 5% would be roughly $320,000. So they couldn't spend another million, as you suggest, without the harsh penalties kicking in. And those penalties are severe as they deal with the loss of future draft picks.
  18. Two of three will make most of us happy, very happy!
  19. Do you live near Statesville? Have spent a few nights there when on our annual trek to Hilton Head each fall.
  20. Great article, Ted, thanks. Glad to see Kepler performing like many of us expected. Expect Cron at first has also helped with their overall team D, and that has been a pleasant surprise...at least for me.
  21. Had Rochester won the second game, they would have been back to .500. Now they are 2 games under. Their lineup is so strong with Rooker, Wiel, Gordon, Davis, Cave, Sawyer, Maggi, Rosario and Raley...when he gets healthy. They gotta get over that hurdle for a playoff run in August. Don't know what is wrong with Javier, but it is more than a slump. He has just 2 hits in his last 10 games...yes, that's 8 games of 0 for whatever (2-37). With 40-man roster spots at a premium this winter, he is a headscratcher. I will be shocked if we don't see several of the 40-man roster eligible players traded before the end of the month...players who are favorites of many of us. Better to use 'em than lose 'em. Look for big starts today from Thorpe, Enlow and Winder.
  22. On that I agree. But the tone of where this discussion has trended is that there is something legally or morally wrong with being a Pepsi bottling company.
  23. Great seeing Benninghoff have a very good start. Has been a long road back from his TJ surgery immediately after being drafted and signed for way over slot. Anthony Escobar didn't have a good day yesterday coming on in a relief appearance. Checked if it was the first time he came on in relief in his year plus career...it was. Nice clip of Rooker's double. Have a feeling we may not be following him too much longer as the Twins work to finalize that big deal(s) for pitching.
  24. The two Stillwater kids taken in the 35 and 36 rounds have played together and been friends since they were very young. They are both headed to Oregon State and signing them was a long shot from the moment they were drafted.
