  1. No. Dozier hit 40 last year. Sano could get to 40 this year. Like that.
  2. Kintzler could get in by other guys being eliminated. Colome probably deserves to go. But if Dickerson goes, that eliminates Cololme because Tampa probably only gets one. For example.
  3. It was Turley's turn. 3/5 of the projected opening day rotation is on the DL. Let me know what MLB team has 8 or more MLB starters. It sure is easy to complain. What's your alternative? Specific. Or it's meaningless.
  4. He has the third highest save total in the AL. He's got a shot. Might depend on how many middle guys they bring. If they bring 4-5 starters, 4 closers and 4 middle guys, he might be one of the 4.
  5. Radar indicates rain should end within 45 minutes, if it hasn't already. I'd say first pitch around 4.
  6. 4 tops. Today. Monday, if there is a game. July 1. July 6.
  7. Here's something for the stat geeks to check: When was the last time a team had two different players hit 40 HR in consecutive years?
  8. If that happens, fine. If he's still a negative offensive WAR player after the 2018 season, I don't see the justification for continuing to give him at bats.
  9. Seems to me a lot of people felt that way about Hicks and Span too.
  10. Because selection to an all star game is based on objective measures.
  11. Rosters are set July 9. That's 2 1/2 weeks, not almost a month.
  12. Kintzler has a shot. He's 3rd in the league in saves. But every team has to have one. So that may limit the number the Twins can have.
  13. In your opinion. If Buxton plays mostly everyday this year and next he will have roughly 1500 or so PA. If he is still sporting a low .600 career OPS (and it's only that high because of last Sept), I could absolutely see the Twins moving on. A MLB team can't carry an automatic out forever.
  14. Not if there is 0% chance of actually throwing that runner out. Even a perfect throw would still have been way late.
  15. They attempt, but I suspect they fall short. Average rates doesn't take specific runners into account. How many players with above average speed are holding?
  16. I concur. He won't be given that opportunity. If he doesn't hit better next year, the Twins will move on.
  17. Of course there is no way to measure baserunners who hold up instead of testing his arm though.
  18. As I said, good enough to stay in the lineup when he wasn't catching, considering his teammates, particularly at AA - where he was the 3rd or 4th best hitter and now in AAA where is the best by a considerable margin. That's why he is getting playing time at spots other than catcher. He probably wouldn't at the MLB level, not regularly anyway. But that flexibility is still nice to have in an emergency. As for his age, not everyone is Joe Mauer. Most catchers take years to develop their catching skills. Yeah, he's quite a bit older than most prospects, but that's because he didn't start his pro career until age 22.
  19. Other than September of last year, Buxton has a sub .600 OPS. What else but a complete implosion would one call that?
  20. He's hit well enough to want to keep his bat in the lineup at almost every level. He had an .880 OPS in low A ball back in 2014. His .750 OPS in AA last year was bested only by Edgar Corcino, Niko Goodrum and Daniel Palka. And he posted an .815 in a month or so at AAA last year. He has played quite a bit at first in the minors. 24 career starts at 1b compared with about 200 career starts overall. That's another thing about Garver. He's only started about 180 minor league games at catcher. Compare that to JR Murphy (roughly same age), who between MLB and the minors has caught over 550 games as a starter. The reason Garver seems raw behind the dish is simply because he is. But most scouting reports I have seen said he's already better than he was expected to be.
  21. What it suggests though is that your "good" bullpen guys are good but your "bad" ones are horrid. Problematically, you can't rely on 3 relievers to pitch in all the winnable games because you will burn them out.
  22. And Molitor didn't have to use Duffey. I wonder how much of that is Molitor fearing he's already overusing him and how much is that he hasn't done well his last couple times out.
  23. I don't believe Rosario has options remaining. So, sending him down really isn't an option - play on words unintended.
  24. Good to see Vargas have success from the starboard side. Switch hitters with power are an extremely rare commodity.
