  1. Just for the record, I wouldn't have him starting either game. He'd be the long man. Gonsalves and maybe Gee to start if he isn't extended too far today. 70ish pitches today and Gee should be good.
  2. Perkins will be 33. Curtiss, Reed and Melotakis still have a shot. Hurlbut is a long shot. Gonsalves MAYBE. You're right I think. Don't see it.
  3. Theoretical question: Let's say the Twins option Gibson down today. Could he be brought up as the 26th man Monday? At this point I really don't care that he would be on short rest. He can be worked until his arm falls off for as poorly as he has pitched this year. He's fortunate that this organization is so pitching poor they HAVE to keep him around.
  4. Dan Fogelberg," The Leader of the Band"
  5. I'm actually old enough to remember when the highway from Duluth to Canada was US 61, instead of state highway 61.
  6. How about "Highway 61 Revisited".
  7. O'Rourke was one of the most effective loogys in MLB last year. LHB were 2 for 26 against him last year.
  8. By early next season (mid May I project) Miguel Sano is going to crack the top 1000 of all time strikeouts. In less than 1500 at bats. Currently, at 557 tied for 998 are Charlie Neal and Pat Borders. Miguel is at 461. If he has a 15 year career or so, he likely passes Reggie. The only active player threatening him now is Mark Reynolds. But he would likely need 6 or 7 more seasons. Giancarlo Stanton could threaten Reggie too if he plays long enough. But Stanton's K rate is significantly lower than Sano's.
  9. Hyperbole much? The enormous mistake Molitor made was allowing Boshers to face Jackson in a close game, after he had already failed to retire a lefty and a switch hitter. The outcome of the Jackson at bat with Boshers pitching was extremely predictable. If Molitor already thought the game was lost by the 7th, he would have let Busenitz finish the inning.
  10. Perhaps Granite being up caused him to realize that playing time and roster spots are promised to no one under the new regime. In April, he sure wasn't performing like a third year major leaguer.
  11. Santiago certainly would be a candidate for 60 day DL if need be. He's already at like day 45 and his rehab program was just suspended. Seems likely to be AT LEAST another two weeks. Assuming the Twins don't anyone from the waiver wire before September 1, the Twins have 3 open spots on the 40 man - one of which figures to be Perkins. I would assume Recker will be up once Rochester is done too. Why not? Never hurts to have an extra catcher. As for guys not on the 40 man, the most likely call ups are Jake Reed, Michael Tonkin, Aaron Slegers, Stephen Gonsalves, John Curtiss, Niko Goodrum, Byung Ho Park and Matt Hague. Not all of them will, of course. Some are pretty long shots.
  12. There hasn't been much to like most nights. On the plus side, Pressly only threw 2 pitches. Shouldn't affect his availability for today.
  13. Colon has been the Twins best starter since joining the team. If the Twins didn't have a good chance of winning this one in the first place, when will they against a quality opponent?
  14. Still two weeks. That likely will determine if the Twins bring in prospects for evaluation or guys they think can help win. Obviously, there is some overlap there. Most notably Garver. And hopefully Turley in a relief role.
  15. Yes, Sano is young. But the hope would be to see gradual improvement in his pitch selection and K rate. That hasn't happened. In 2015, his K rate was 35.5%. 2016 was 36.0%. 2017 35.8%. Essentially exactly the same all three years. That to me is concerning. We have seen improvement in Buxton and finally this year in Rosario - in roughly the same PA totals as Sano btw. Sano simply needs to do better. Or he does risk being grouped with hundreds of guys that hit HR but strike out at a horrendous rate.
  16. If Perkins does come back, it sounds like Santiago could be removed from the 40 man by being placed on the 60 day DL. It wouldn't be an automatic season ender. Santiago has already been out 45 days.
  17. The runs he allowed, more accurately the runs Molitor allowed him to allow, certainly made a comeback far less likely. But, I agree, you aren't going to win many games scoring one run.
  18. I really don't believe FIP would be even a rough estimate of what Kintzler's ERA would be. In Kintzler's full seasons, his FIP has been within half a run of his actual ERA just once, in 2013. It's primary inputs (BB, K, HR) are all things he tends to have smaller than typical totals of. In other words, his FIP is always going to be skewed by SSS simply because the input data is small.
  19. I think that's a command issue. He's not yet capable of hitting his spots consistently. But he's got an upper 90s fastball and a biting breaking ball.
  20. Boshers should not be pitching to RHB in leverage situations. Poor bullpen management. Ladies and gentlemen, Paul Molitor.
  21. Busenitz has closer stuff. Not sure he has the mental capacity yet. He also needs to improve his command a bit, evidenced by that meatball. But the stuff is very good.
  22. Something wrong with Boshers filling that role possibly with O'Rourke as plan B or maybe Nik Turley? Boshers has been extremely effective vs LHB.
  23. Love those 2 out sacrifice flies...
  24. From yarnivek's facebook feed, today in Twins history: 2011, Jim Thome hits HR number 600. It also marked the end of any reason to watch the team for the balance of the season.
  25. Cal Ripken Sr managed Jr for a year or so - in Ripken's prime. I'm not sure this would be any different. The only difference is that there are more "talking heads" out there than now. btw, not really advocating for Jake. Just consider the "conflict" to be a non-issue.
