  1. Looks like Duffey is coming in. I would suspect double switch with Polanco here.
  2. That was where I expected him to land 5-6 years ago. Soft hand, quick feet, strong arm. The tools were certainly a match.
  3. By lately, I assume you mean the last 3 years. That's one area that is disappointing about Sano's season IMO. I'm not saying he has to never strike out. But it would have been nice to see SOME improvement in his K rate. It's literally exactly the same (one K every 2.5 AB) as last year.
  4. With 8 guys out there, you really don't. Too early to lift Sano in a double switch? It's a nice lead, but I wouldn't call it comfortable. I think the Twins would want to get 2 innings out of Pressly or whoever is coming in. Sounds like Belisle is unavailable tonight.
  5. Other than Berrios, the Twins current starting pitchers aren't flamethrowers. For the most part, Gibson, Santana and Colon rely on command and movement to get outs. Every time I've seen/heard anyone discuss the subject, they say those type of pitchers tend to do worse with extra rest.
  6. Polanco was at .213 last week. He's already up to .240. Good things happen when you put the bat on the ball.
  7. Decision time for Molitor. Busenitz is due 2nd next inning. Probably not going to double switch with Dozier. Too bad Mitch Garver isn't on the roster...
  8. The metrics say Sano is in the lower third defensively. That said, he's light years better than last year and considerably better than anyone realistically expected.
  9. Might work out. The Twins will likely need him to get through 5.
  10. Regardless, they can't keep him on rehab indefinitely. Eventually, the Twins will have to activate him. More to the point, prior to September 1. So they can't just not use him. The Twins will have to get some kind of usage from him at least until rosters expand.
  11. Not sure how any of those names qualify as "fresh blood". They all spent upwards of half their careers with the Twins.
  12. Actually, now that I think about it, I understand the logic too. I don't agree with it, but I understand it. Enns is the guy most likely to be lifted from the rotation when Santiago returns. I believe Santiago pitches tonight as well. Coincidence? I say no.
  13. Pitchers are already coddled too much. The strategy of the great Braves pitchers of the 90s and beyond was to throw MORE, not less. Jim Kaat always said that a pitchers arm will "rust out before it wears out". An extra day of rest means an extra start for the worst starter on the team. That is something you want to avoid. Even factoring in AAA, no one except Ervin figures to have more than 195 IP. There are exactly 50 team games left, so that is 10 times through the rotation. At most, a couple guys might make 11 more starts. Ervin will probably be at 210-215 IP. Adding in the 40 at AAA for Berrios, he might hit 195. He threw 170 last year, so not a big jump at all. In terms of pitches thrown, it might end up being a wash as Berrios threw a lot of pitches in few MLB IP last year. Gibson probably 165, assuming he actually makes 10 more starts. Assuming Mejia only misses two starts, he figures to check in at 155 to 160. That after 135 last year. Santiago, who knows? Maybe 150 if he makes 9 more starts. Point being, really no one has thrown more than they should.
  14. Twins still don't need 8 relievers. Not sure I see the logic of pushing everyone else back a day either. Why not just have Enns start Sunday? Instead of messing with the rhythm of one pitcher, the choice is to mess with 3?
  15. They can't keep Santiago on a rehab assignment indefinitely. I believe the limit is 30 days for pitchers. I think Hector is half way there.
  16. Roy Smalley: So, let's say Polanco puts the glove down in front of the base. What prevents the runner from doing exactly what he did? That is slide around the bag and grab the back of the bag.
  17. Sure looked like he tagged him at first glance. Maybe not.
  18. The problem remains that Molitor is not good with inexperienced players. The Twins are always going to have some in key roles. Including next year. Possibly guys like Reed, Chargois, Burdi maybe, Gonsalves, Romero, Garver, Gordon maybe. Those guys and likely others will be around next year and at some point will need to be put in key spots. I think part of the reason some of these guys aren't up already is that Falvine doesn't want Molitor to have too great an influence. Another reason that Molitor could be out after the minor league seasons end.
  19. Of course, if the pitcher stays on the rubber and throws an actual pitch, the batter has every right to swing at it. If he thinks the runner will be out, he would probably try to foul it off (ideally toward first).
  20. Ryan Braun just tied a MLB record.
  21. Boshers ERA is lower than league average based on a 116 ERA+. His FIP is 4.91. So? Last year his FIP was 2.81 with an actual ERA of 4.5. Kinda tells me that FIP really isn't a stat that predicts anything. There have been a lot of people saying that Boshers is going to regress all year. It's August. Running out of season for him to regress. Maybe he's just being used in ways that puts him position to do well. No one is going to mistake Boshers for Andrew Miller, but that doesn't mean he hasn't been and won't continue to be useful.
  22. I'd be curious to know who your starters are in that scenario. More specifically would Grossman be the DH?
  23. Maybe Garver should be giving third base a try down in AAA. It's certainly a fair question. Sano has started 73 games at 3b this year so far. Twins have played 111. So, the Twins need option B for like 40-50 games. Maybe more. I'm not sure the answer should be Escobar. He's subpar anywhere he plays defensively. He occasionally makes up for it with the bat, but I personally believe he's hitting a little over his head this year at least as far as HR go. Prior to 2017, he had 27 career HR in 1500 at bats, one every 56 at bats. This year, 10 in 227. That's really the only thing that is different about Escobar's numbers in 2017. HR power, seemingly out of nowhere. If this were 15 years ago there would be more than whispers. But that's also the only real value Escobar has. He has been, at least this year, a HR threat. If that goes away, so does Escobar's value. Personally, I'd rather have the superior defender. That's Adrianza. In a walk.
  24. I think you are describing Sandy Alomar.
