  1. It is quite ridiculous that the Twins have a 4 man bench in September.
  2. Aaron Slegers with another 10 K outing tonight. Just saying...
  3. Early in Empire Strikes Back, while Luke is recovering from the snow monster attack. Right after Leia had called Han a scruffy looking nerf herder.
  4. The last two batters make me want to do a Chewbacca "shocked mumble". You know, after Leia plants one on Luke.
  5. It's really not postseason that concerns me. It's the next 4 weeks. Right now they have two catchers. One has caught exactly 2 full MLB games. The other has already established a new career high in innings caught in a season this year. Concerning is an understatement.
  6. That certainly could be. It would actually make a lot more sense from Ervin's perspective.
  7. Recker isn't currently on the 40 man. I'm not opposed to letting Garver play. I'm just saying that Castro's concussion and Garver's extreme inexperience makes not having another experienced catcher around a bad idea.
  8. The way I read Santana's contract, it sounds like he has to pitch 400 IP 2017-18, but also 200 IP in 2018. This is from cot's: Ervin Santana rhp 4 years/$55M (2015-18), plus 2019 club option signed by Minnesota as a free agent 12/11/14 15-18:$13.5M annually. 19:$14M club option 2019 option guaranteed if Santana passes physical after 2018 season and throws 400 innings in 2017-18, including 200 IP in 2018
  9. Kepler isn't going to improve vs LHP if he doesn't face them. I'm not willing to define a 24 year old as a platoon player.
  10. Apparently you did because it is in the initial post.
  11. Wasn't the deadline 4 pm edt?
  12. idk, in these days of 13 man pitching staffs versatility is valued. Sure, he'll need to prove he can contribute at the MLB level, but he's exactly the kind of guy that hangs around.
  13. The Twins will need to make some move to put Goodrum on the 40 man. Santiago remains the most logical candidate. Reports from his outing a couple days ago were not encouraging.
  14. Not sure why Mejia should be slated to start 2018 in AAA. He's basically been a league average pitcher this year which is obviously far better than Berrios was in his first go around the league. Sure, he needs to show improvement. But, I think he should be penciled in to a spot next year. Not necesarily assumed one, but I would say not assumed out either. If for no other reason, why burn his final option if you don't need to? Hold on to it, in case you need it in the future. I don't think it is likely that Colon or Gibson are back. It's an entirely different debate as to whether or not they should be, but I don't think they will. My gut tells me that Colon's first choice would be to go back where it started and try to get however many wins he needs with Cleveland. idk, maybe he doesn't feel that way. He might like the idea of hanging around Erv, Jose and Mejia.
  15. IMO, Castro's concussion changed the equation. While having one doesn't put him at greater risk for another, all the data shows that each successive one makes the symptoms worse and more difficult from which to recover. Frankly, I think it would be irresponsible to not bring up Recker under the circumstances.
  16. The refrain is old because it is an old problem. Gibson hasn't resembled a competent MLB pitcher for any extended period since July 2015 (ERA well north of 5 in that stretch). Two good starts against two of the worst offenses in the AL doesn't change that IMO. btw, his next two starts are against the Royals. They currently are ranked 13th in the AL in OPS and runs scored. After that, he would likely face the Padres, the WORST run scoring team in MLB and second worst in terms of OPS. So, the odds would seem to favor him having continued success. Let's maybe see if Gibson can perform against the Yankees, Tigers and Indians before mentioning him in the same breath as Strasburg and Grienke. With regards to Nick's comment that he "didn't focus that much on results", I guess that is your perrogative. But MLB is a results oriented business. One either performs, or one doesn't play. Especially a guy with a non-guaranteed contract, like Gibson.
  17. Right now the Astros are a mess. Can't really blame them for their focus being elsewhere. They are fortunate that their lead is so enormous that they can afford to more or less take a week or two off. Sure, I want the Twins to go as far as they can, but it would be truly unfortunate if their season is derailed because of this.
  18. These things have a way of playing themselves out. It seems highly unlikely that the Twins will be in any kind of position to juggle their rotation to set up for the playoffs, should they make it. In reality, IMO, Santana and Berrios are equally likely to be dominant or lay an egg and Colon is just as likely to be "his kind of dominant" as he is to get hammered. Point being, I really don't think it matters that much who pitches which games.
  19. The comment I made in the game thread is that he went mostly un-noticed. That is he did what one would expect the catcher to do. At this point, that's going to have to suffice.
  20. Garver is almost 27, true enough. But he just lacks experience as a pro catcher. I mentioned elsewhere that JR Murphy (who is actually a couple months YOUNGER than Garver) has almost 5300 innings caught at the MiLB and MLB levels whereas Garver has 2700. I don't think anyone holds any illusions that Garver is a future defensive whiz behind the plate. I think he's competent now and will likely only get better with experience. But yes, an experienced "plan B" is a MUST. Recker is more than qualified.
  21. Is it possible that Toronto and Chicago are simply two last place teams with marginal talent and even less motivation?
  22. Pelfrey is over 50 pitches. He's gotten 4 outs and given up 10 total bases. I'm sure there is a reason why the Sox are keeping him around, but I can't imagine what it is.
  23. If I had a normal, predictable work schedule I would. But I don't even know my schedule for next week yet. It's kinda hard to know - in advance - if I would be able to do it on a given day. And even if it was a time when I rarely work, the reality of my position as a Kitchen Manager is that I can get called in almost any time.
