  1. Nice article. Personally the oft repeated Falvine takes the cake. Just rolls off the tongue. You have to double check when your reading cause it's so subtle. Pure genius. Anyway first off we don't really know how healthy these guys are so that's a starting point. I really liked Chargois had high hopes but he's gotta pitch. The thing that does stick in my craw is the rule 5. Isn't this a leveling device and as such when a team reaches the upper realm of the league wouldn't their roster be too good to add from the fringes of others? Then your clogging the 25. So far they're 0 for 1 so we'll see. I did just check the 40 and it is a much better crew than last year. Who are you going to give up Slegers, Curtiss or Sanchez? Can't do that to Sanchez so no. Slegers has back of the rotation potential and has been healthy so no. Then Curtiss? Similar and healthier so no. For me the only possible choice is the rule 5 and of course Chargois' health factor.
  2. Hughes needs to be back in the 92-94 range if he is truly healthy. If he is still I the high 80's by the end of spring like last year cut bait.
  3. Agreed that is better and there are better options coming up as well. By mid season we won't be resorting to a flier on a 45 year old anomaly
  4. Let's get Garver some at bats and see if we have a right handed bat with some pop! He's not getting any younger so I would say it's now or never for him. Will be fun to watch.
  5. Hey I resemble that remark Brock! I'm definitely in the camp that you take the BPA and that pitchers are very risky. Houston is a great example. I would say the great majority of our top pitchers came from other than the top of the draft. It is the same for other teams as well. Right now our top guy berrios was a supplemental pick amid the #1 in the staff is Gibby.
  6. His size and or weight are what limit an otherwise very athletic man in the field. There is no question. What else would be the reason he would be limited in his fielding? He has a cannon, great reflexes and practiced baseball instincts. The only thing missing is he is limited by his size. I have always liked Hrbek and watching him play but I always felt his career was limited by his conditioning and that was in an era of less conditioning overall. If Sano worked out half as much as La Machina (Berrios)and stayed under 250 maybe 240 he would have a better chance of maximizing his potential, no question. On the other hand if he works hard and stays above 250 plays for ten or more years as a 1B/DH being capable enough at 1B to play winning ball in the NL parks in the playoffs who wouldn't be happy?
  7. Lots of optimism here a very spring like post! Hughes the pick to click! I am liking the overall depth and less chance of some of the the guys they through out there to start last year. That was hard take.
  8. As much as I like the hornswoggling reference the debacle reference cancels it out
  9. I dont see a team that concerned about money giving up one of the best pitching deals out there. They still have to field an MLB team.
  10. This is the medicine needed after all the Sanchez stress. This guy is the best pitching pickup since Santana. May be close to Hughes but I think this guy will give us more. He is only 27. For what they gave up this could turn into a steal. What I like about this FO vs the old regime is they are more aggressive and make creative moves but they obviously highly value the farm. They state as much. They have improved organizational depth and the team. I'd say that's pretty good so far.
  11. Sometimes it's just the order of the way things play out that can cause a certain reaction. Rodney, Duke then Reid if it had been reversed would have eased some of the pain of the now quiet bullpen complaining. Same here. If they do sign someone like Lynn then as this will quiet down. If that happened first then Sanchez the Sanchez signing would have just produced yawns. All that said i think the remaining FA pitchers are not worth four year deals. I'm especially leery of middle of the road national league starters.
  12. Not to mention, that ROY will be harder to achieve than Bryant's, since some on this board appear to have Gonsalves and Romero penciled in for 150+ innings of sub-4.00 FIP ball. Ah the sweet optimism of spring! The Twins have 3 ROY candidates!
  13. Nice article now I think I better understand what i was looking at when Mejia was pitching. It was frustrating to see him get hitters in his count then not put them away. I see now his ceiling is lower than I thought maybe a four unless he can somehow learn to spin it more.
  14. Here ya go. I could see signing Darvish for 4 years but that's it and that's not going to happen. The comment where there was a complaint that if we don't compete for top FA in a year when the big spenders are idle we never will misses it for me. Look at the Hughes extension, how's that working out? I would think four years is always dangerous and always the absolute max on pitcher contracts for me. We really could be seeing a change though. Some baseball contracts are absolutely ridiculous with the pitcher deals being the worst. If things do start moving in the other direction, it could maybe be called collusion but never the less it would be good for baseball. Alright alright if the 5 for 125 ish thing is available I would sign Darvish!
  15. There is a ton of money coming of the very dusty books. Even if two of the young guys are going to be legit they won't be right away. Look at the development of Berrios. It will take time to be a pitcher capable of winning in the playoffs. If a good deal is available there is no better time then now. That being said if Darvish is really going to get as many years as speculated even a non-banker might balk at that deal
  16. The new bullpen should help. We do need to sign one quality starter if we're serious. The lineup has to continue it's improvement and be a strength including a break out by Kepler. Could be fun
  17. Oops forgot the emoticon I guess. Spycake I'm with ya on this. See rite there you accounted for 35 minutes. I think we would all take that and then some. Maybe some concession on the ads to shorten the frequency or duration
  18. Settle down Francis. I wonder what those pitch times are? I did look it up recently and apparently in the 1920's the average game was about two hours then sometime around the 80's or 90's it had crept past three hours. That to me is ridiculous. It is the same game so what happened? I sure most of it is ads. American tv has a horrible, unwatchable amount of ads. Probably not going to change that much although the NFL got rid of the tv break after kickoffs. That aside if you don't want a clock even a hidden one I would start with of you undo the Velcro strap on your glove at the plate that glove is then confiscated and you must play the rest of the game with one glove. I don't wanna be startin somethin, just sayin
  19. I hope your right I don't want a repeat of Haley. Hanging around only to be released in July
  20. It would be interesting to see how many favor an automated pitch calling system. Baseball is an old game with many traditions and an atmosphere all is own. Not so sure I want to lose the quirks; "ump's calling it close today" or the arguments at home plate, the sideways glances etc.
  21. I'm in this corner. I like a deal and this is full on retail. That earlier comment about poaching on the end of Grenke's deal sounds like a deal
  22. Maybe playing in 164 games in 2017 wore him out and slowed him down a bit
