  1. I'd be good with Tepesch as well.... I would just like us to use this season to gain as much information about our players as possible moving forward.....With 40% of our rotation pitching well, we need to disavow ourselves of the notion that we will be competitive. Lets at least figure out who can be a 5th starter and who cannot
  2. The scary thing is that, I'm not sure how great of a 'bench bat' he would really even be at this point (defensive 1st base replacement I guess).... This may get hard.... and a little sad (well... as sad as things can get for someone who has made over 200mil ....before its all over
  3. One xtra base hit in the first 18 games just does not work for 1st base (or other positions for that matter, but certainly not 1st base)... Joe Mauer was fantastic for Minnesota....but this is not going to work for 2 more years (especially during a youth movement)
  4. Gibson to the bullpen for now. Wheeler should come up and get a shot (and Gibson can provide long relief back up). I'm not saying he'll be great, but he has earned a shot given the limited depth. We do indeed have 'comically bad' pitching depth. (perfect description)
  5. Anybody seen Stewart pitch (live or video) this year? Any insight? If he continues to add walks to the lack of strike outs....look out below....
  6. The Twins should call him up to develop and acclimate him to MLB THIS year and trade Catstro if/when he proves worthy (I think when). Unfortunately, I think the FO is emotionally/intelectually invested in Gimenez. So the Garver era will probably not start as early as it should
  7. Garver is also too legit....too legit to sit (around waiting to be called up)....sorry off thread but I couldn't resist
  8. Trade IF you get a good return.... I like that the new FO is willing to be flexible and patient (and showing the league). Patience early will help them to extract fair to better value in the years to come
  9. Kepler, Sano, and Planco are progressing nicely so far....this is by far the biggest positive. As stated in another string.... a hot Park or Vargas in AAA with an imploding Mauer in the MLB would make things awfully interesting. If Grossman keeps this up, I will have to issue and apology for my naysaying
  10. If Park or Vargas get hot in AAA and Mauer continues to struggle.... things could get VERY uncomfortable in Twins Territory
  11. Grossman AND DanSan?! Where do I sign up for season tickets! I hope the prices haven't increased yet
  12. No worries.... at least our starting pitching is....er...ah.... We'll you just wait until Jay gets up to the MLB THEN our bullpen will be....er...ah...umm What's cookin' for the 2018 Draft!
  13. I think Dozier should actually bat behind Sano. From his leadoff success, Dozier has proven that he can supply his own power without line up protection....but I do think that Sano and the Ks (name of a band?!) would benefit from some line up protection.
  14. Mauer was an outstanding talent and we were fotunate to have him (Mark Prior anyone?!) He earned every penny that the Twins have paid him over his entire career. He will be an asset to the community and possibly the Twins after he retires. Having said that, he has not been the same player since the injury. I hope for his sake and the team's sake that he is utilized as described in multiple posts above for his last two years
  15. Ummm. While the Indian starters were not in the same league as the Cubs starters....they were waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the Twins starters. We'll use WAR acknowledging that all stats have their limitations: Kluber: 6.5 Carrasco: 3.6 Bauer: 3.0 Salazar: 2.9 Tomlin 1.6 Twins: Santana: 3.8 Gibson:0.6 Duffey: -1.6 I'll stop there to avoid making TD readers nauseous. Starting pitching is not either outstanding or not. There is a continuum. Starting pitching needs to be at least good/solid for an elite bullpen to matter. The bullpen will not save the day without solid starting pitching. And there is still a loooooooooong way to go before we can claim even an above average bullpen Some of the injuries happened at the end of season and as pointed out by others, a bullpen can better cover for this in the playoffs.
  16. There is a lot of middle ground between #1 pitcher and relief pitcher... and a long way to go to know where 7-40 players settle out. We drafted ultimately drafted a relief pitcher at #6 who turned out to be …… a relief pitcher. This simply cannot be considered a positive. The aggressive positive spin is making me dizzy again. Even indirect comparisons to the current elite MLB relief pitchers is just ridiculous.
  17. "During last year's postseason fans saw the importance of dominant relief pitchers like Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman." This was on teams with actual starting pitching. The current Twins do not have anywhere near playoff starting pitching. There is a reason that the Yankees traded the relief assets they did last year for young talent....they did not have the starting pitching to win that year, therefore making the elite relief superfluous (and they could just sign them back if they wanted Again....Jay to the bullpen may indeed allow the twins to get the most out of him. But the pick at #6 for a relief pitcher will remain a disappointment no matter how many times we spin in circles. (And I dost think that we are getting a wee bit ahead of ourselves to think that transitioning Jay to the pen automatically equates to a top 5 MLB reliever.
  18. I don't think the "wind blowing in" helped get Duffy 10 Ks.... Nice work.... good to see him pitching well (which he will need to do to serve the team well in the starting line up or the pen)
  19. I would be dissapointed if the Twins traded anything for him, so I can't imagine another team wanting to give up much if anything for him
  20. Nice research, but the answer to the question is still a simple no.
  21. Outstanding! (still laughing) Quick mental exercise. If we release DanSan would he be on another MLB 25 man roster on opening day? I for one would bet no, which would make us taking him North...just a wee bit sad.
  22. Chargois at the 72nd pick.....Jay at #6......ugh. (sorry, wrong thread)
