    Seeing it in print should remind us all that our pitching should make us VERY nerveous this year.... I hope it works out, but yikes!

    Fear not....Molitor will not last past this year. Ownership does not want to pay two salaries. The new FO does not want to make a long term decision on a manager until they have a better idea of the future make up of the team.

    Three hits, two walks and 45 pitches over 2 innings with a fastball in the 80s?! Wow, I hope he doesn't get vertigo with all the postitive spin going on.....

    No worries....these catchers will play themselves to exactly the place they should be over the first 2-3 months of the year (in JM's case, I have a sneaking suspicion that it will be right out of the organization... and in Garver's case up to the majors to stay)....and this team has nothing but time right now.

    Similar to our discussions about minor league short stops....I'm simply happy that we have enough catchers this year that warrant discussion!

    I reached 1987 #3 pitcher Les Straker for comment on the above. He said: "Ummm, scary is an understatement"

    Just to pile on....last year alone, I think that May, Meyers, and Sano were handled pretty poorly. And this was not outcome bias at TD. I remember many posters that were exacerbated real time (yes, I think that the OF even stunted his offense last year).

    I would like to see Dozier batting 5th behind Sano at the beginning of the year. The line up protection may help get Sano out of the gates better (which to me is the BIG priority) . Dozier is more experienced and has proven he can supply power without line up protection. As long as Kepler demonstrates progress and does not implode in his second season, I think he would actually fit well in the 3 spot behind planco and mauer (A lot of 'ifs' I know, but tis the year for experiments!)

    There HAS to be a better 4th OF in here or out there or somewhere than Grossman and DanSan. I tend to agree with those who value defense in a 4th outfielder. Wouldn't it be great if Granite progressed sooner rather than later!

    I enjoy the statistical banter (The research that goes into both sides is interesting). I do think that we can all agree that it is refreshing to actually have multiple SS prospects in the farm system to debate about..... its been awhile!

    The high floor makes me feel MUCH better about him. Stewart was a higher first round pick, and if he doesn't make it as a starter, he is likely a bust.

    Seth--- thanks for adding video to the post. This is a nice (convenient) feature for those of us who have not seen the prospects play before. I think we can all agree that the bat speed is pretty solid and that is hard to teach....

    I actually find myself most excited see what Kepler can do this season after pitchers adjust to his MLB tendencies. I really hope he continues to mature and evolves into a dangerous #3 in the lineup ahead of Sano (I'm not interested in running Mauer out of town, but he really should not be in the #3 slot AT ALL this year).

    If Hughes and Berrios are not ready....and Justin Haley pitches well in ST...AND Mercury is in retrograde....any chance for Haley to just be the 5th starter (others have options)? Might as well see what we really have (and return to sender if we don't like him) in this first season of a 3-5 year plan. It seems like we have a pending glut of cheap-controlled-home-grown relievers, so if not starter material....he may not be needed.

    I'm simultaneously happy that we managed to get him for Nunez but sad that he is our #7 prospect. I'm more curious about the slot of Garver...I feel like "good chance to be an average to above average starting catcher" is better than "a young wild card slugger", "an wild card batter without a clear defensive capability anywhere in the infield yet", "a young pitcher with promise but a potential fatal K/BB flaw." and a "if everything breaks right, he could very well be a back of the rotation starter!" But most importantly, I've never seen any of these guys play in person, so I'm honestly interested in what better baseball minds and eyes have to say. Did anyone on the TD staff rate Garver higher?

    I know this is sacrilegious in the age of analytics, but I do think this guy is a stone cold competitor who will do everything he can to make the needed adjustments. That said... THE FO top priority HAS to be getting the minor league pitching instruction RIGHT. We have a handful of high upside pitching prospects that could go either way and our medium and long term success completely depends on the outcome (because we all know that a FA ACE is not in our future...like ever). ....Master of the obvious....I know Nick -- have there been any significant changes in the minor league pitching coaches/instructors since the new FO took over? .... Would be interesting to know

    I believe there is exactly a zero percent chance that Molitor is the manager starting next season. The new FO has a 3-5 year vision to win big and Molitor's management style/philosophy is not even in the same universe. The ownership is not just not interested in paying two managers this year. And there really is no rush. The FO has plenty of other things to figure out, some of which may impact who they think will be the best manager for this team long term.

    Lower minors have some exciting players; Very much looking forward to the TD minor league reports!
