  1. Yes. Apply a theory of tort for negligent infliction of emotional distress. Best to throw PTSD in there. Surely the trauma of being enticed to watch Twins BP is prima facie evidence of attractive nuisance. Make note of every instance of burn belch or generic flatulent distress.....airtight case...no pun intended
  2. We need a moniker for our beloved BP Corps. Suggestions anyone? Ok, I'll start: NLSEBS: No Lead Shall Ever Be Safe, or nibbles phonetically. I know, its not quite syncing with the acronym, but close enough, like Dobby"s devastating slider that turned a 15 run laugher into a drama. Anybody got sonething better than The Nibbles Pen?
  3. Target Field was ostensibly built for the exact purpose of keeping a player like this. From available evidence, it doesn't seem like the team is making a particularly hearty effort to do what it takes to retain him. So we were told. This is a mgmt decision, not FO. Carl P intervened to sign Puck, late, and it cost him more $$ waiting. But Puck took a discount. The Twins way, even with 2 WS rings. The Dome was the excuse in 92. What is now? Mid market BS? TF put Twins on competitive trajectory with payroll...so it was said. How many times does an opportunity happen to lock up a generational talent of your making? Once every 30 years apparently in Mn Twins world. Spend the $$ Pohlads. Reap the ROI you committed to drafting and developing- for this chance. Isnt that the reason for being a MLB franchise? If we wont pay the players we draft and develop, then what is the point?
  4. Duff spoiled Pineda's pristine line. Bummer. What else to expect? What's the over/under on Pineda going to Padres tomorrow?
  5. Dangnamit.....this is all so depressing. Trading Berrios, imho, means we are starting over. The chances of receiving a SP in return of his quality is little more than a crapshoot. Twins have invested 9 years in developing this guy, have a few seasons of quality results to show for it. SP is where roster construction starts. Why then would we even think about trading our most capable SP and one of the most durable SP in MLB ? Trading him now seems to me a monumental organizational failure. If he truly does not want to sign here, we have a full year to work it out, and if not, then do what we have to do next July-either trade him or ride it out if we are contending. But now now. Makes no sense to me, and I am really tired of the gerbil wheel constantly in motion for the next Big Pitching Prospect, which, even in the remote chance this BPP would work out, we would be several years away from any meaningful impact at the MLB level. Where's my Liter bottle of Pepto Bismol?
  6. Flaccid portends These omens whispering Of outs on the black
  7. So true, if Buck is back this season would like to see that lineup every day for whatever is left of season.
  8. Liked Larnach and Kiriloff contributing defense today. Is this team better with Larnach RF, Kiriloff 1B, Sano bench/PH?
  9. Wondering if any cause/effect relationship explains this years dumpster fire of a season? Your question is answered. While other teams invest enormous time and money crunching never ending data, here in Minnesota, we have the silver bullet that explains everything: Uniforms. The trend is clear, results dispositive. Through the end of June, with data courtesy of UniformLineups.com, we see that when wearing their dark blue alternate (road or home), the Twins are sporting a hefty 15-12 record, for a .556 winning percentage. Road grays come out to 7-9/.438. Home whites fare the same: 7-9/.438. Alt home reds: 4-9/.308. And last and certainly least, Alt Powder Blues '70's throwbacks: 1-5/.177. Caps are Dark Blues for all games except red uniforms, which have matching red caps, and 3 dates, May 14-16, when the cammy caps were worn, winning once, (red uni) losing twice (red and dk blue uni). The data is clear. Powder Blues must go. May we please look forward to a promotional night, sooner than later, titled "Burn the Blue!". All several hundred fans in attendance that special night can enjoy bonfires scattered throughout the stadium, featuring the toasting of these hideous reminders of all things '70's, not the least of which is a series of bad baseball teams that our current heroes unfortunately too closely mimic. Not only will these execrable excuses for clothing go up, but anything fans who lived through and are still recovering from the trauma of the 70's pop culture need to let go of may be piled on as well-such as, disco balls, polyester of any kind/shape/color, lava lamps, fragments of shag carpet, The Carpenters Greatest Hits 8-Track, pictures of self or loved ones sporting a feather haircut-the list can goes on. Like a shamanic exorcism, each current powder blue monstrosity shall be ceremoniously placed atop pyres, publicly accused and convicted of carrying negativity by the simple fact of its existence, generously doused, and lit afire, a thousand points of light throughout Target Field, a purging that will lead to brighter, purer, healthier win-loss record in the future. In case you are wondering what might replace these in the uni rotation, I suggest Clear as a home/road alternate. Utterly unique in concept and design, clear uni's will make a statement. Of the inevitable questions that may result, players will have a ready come-back: "I'm not naked, I'm on the 26-man."
  10. Watching Rogers and Pressly win a WS in Houston would rub a lot of salt in a deep wound.
  11. Since the 1960's MLB has doubled the # of franchises and also increased the # of pitchers on MLB roster, from 10 to 13/14 now. Add 14 new teams, 3-4 pitchers per team, and 42-56 additional pitchers needed comparatively speaking to historical standards. Not that 1960 was the Golden Era of MLB, but just to get a sense of the changes in MLB pitching usage indicates that pitching quality is spread thin across MLB, and any one staff is a good as the weakest link in a 13-14 person chain. We have classic case of demand (for quality, and depth at all levels of the organization) exceeding supply, and the skewed economics that result. Most teams compete for mediocre talent in hopes of finding one season of performance that exceeds payroll commitments. But when performance and/or years of service reach a level of having to make long term salary commitments, the calculus changes. Pitching depth has to be protected now more than any time in the past. So, I agree with Tom, good luck finding that diamond in the rough in someone else's MiLB system. Economics drove trading Pressly, and that hurt this teams ability to compete at high level in the last 3 years. The Jake Cave trade is showing signs of working in the other direction-would we rather have Cave or Luis Gil knocking at the door? Why would teams take the risk of trading pitching except for possibly high level, proven, controllable MLB talent? I fear for the Twins and Berrios. The Twins need him more than he needs the Twins, and we all know how well the Twins do when they have to compete at a high level for in-demand free agents. I hope they sign him, but expect they wont, and I anticipate we will continue to see a cycling of mediocre pitching talent for years to come (unless a new CBA miraculously changes the underlying economics).
  12. So true. Nothing quite like sumner nights and radio baseball, even when the Homers are horrid.
  13. Reminds me of my high school ball field. No wonder it seemed muddy all the time.
