Game Thread: Twins @ Chicago Cubs @ 11:20 am PT (1:20 pm CT)
MangLitch replied to Blake's topic in Archived Game Threads
I would normally agree, but the last 6 games should make us believe that nothing is impossible when it comes to losing for these guys. This could get ugly real quick. We have 35 wins? All it would take is to win 25 from here on and boom. If it weren’t for that little hot streak, 25 wins would be realistic. I’m not counting them out of 100 losses. This is just a new level of ineptitude.- 179 replies

Revisiting Molitor vs. Lovullo
MangLitch replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If they give you a million, will you promise to use more than 3 relievers over a 5 game stretch. Oh, and can you space out your days of rest so that we don't have to have a lineup like yesterday. Oh, and can you stop playing Grossman. If so, you have my vote. -
MIN 2, CHW 1: Walking Away With a Win
MangLitch replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Heck, I wouldnt be surprised if they went on a six game winning streak here, only to return home and lose 9 of 11 versus the Orioles, Royals and Rays. The two wins coming from La MaKKKKKKKKKKKKKina of course, because he is just flat nasty. But they will be 2-1 wins, most likely. Watch them rattle off 6 games here with an average runs scored of 6.somethingnuts. Just to be that annoying bottle of fireball/tequila. You know its gonna hurt real bad the next day, but you just cant quite put it down. Oh well, just another day in loserville USA.... -
MIN 2, CHW 1: Walking Away With a Win
MangLitch replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Berrios will pitch tomorrow, being he went Sunday. So unfortunately we don’t have to dfa anyone..... I second the catcher comment. I’ve seen enough to think someone else could bring his value at worse. Lastly, I wasn’t shocked by the score. This lineup was lucky the pitching staff showed up. 6 guys in the lineup hitting .230 or worse... and often much worse. Woof -
Holy Moly...... Look......At........That.......Lineup 6 guys at or near the DozMornda Line. I bet Giolito is doing is best Archie Bradley impression and S'ing his P's right now thinking, "How will I get these guys out?" My advice - Walk the two Ed's and throw strikes to everyone else...... you will be just fine. This is sad

Ya I would agree, but I would be willing to part with just about anything. To answer the question, Sale was traded when he had one year left on his deal I believe and he commanded the number 1, 20ish, and a top 10 sox prospect plus another top 20. Syndergaard has 3 years of control left, so I would have to believe that the package will be bigger. Braves have two top ten guys that could lure the mets into a trade. Being a surprise contender, could they try to make a splash with Acuna and Soroka... Houston has two top 10 guys in Tucker and Whitley.... If they pull this off its over Johnny... no one is going to be able to compete with that power 4 in a playoff setting. Yankees are always in consideration but they arent giving up their young MLB talent.... which I would for Syndergaard. Twins could give up Lewis, romero/graterol, Krilloff/Gordon plus one or two top 20.... Its a heavy price but I think you have to entertain it and then be agressive in free agency to pull off a dramatic improvement. It will hurt the prospect centric crowd but man would that be a rotation to watch at the top.
-
I would be willing to give up just about everything to grab Thor. Within reason I guess. Having a top line of Thor, Berrios, Romero plus Graterol, Thorpe, Gonzo, Stewart, Enlow coming through the pipeline would have great odds of having a top rotation for a long time. Some of these guys would likely have to be in the package, but main point is we would have the top 2 figured out with some really good options as 3,4,5.... But do we have enough to get him, I am not sure. They would likely want some real high end talent and we dont have a top 20 type of guy, unless someone has really jumped up this year.

After Rap Debut, Nick Gordon Has Twins Debut In SIght
MangLitch replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Can we just bring this kid up already? Put him at SS and see what happens. Then when Dozier is traded for a bag of baseballs, figure out what combination you want in the infield. I like the fact the this kid is willing to play wherever and doesn't have a big ego about only being a SS.- 20 replies

Nah, lay on the negative talk. Saying we are in second is like saying we are in second driving a ford pinto and the leader is driving a formula one car. The only reason we are in second is because the 3 behind us are on bicycles and there is a chance our pinto blows up and we end up in last anyways. What a dumpster fire

Fair.... but he is around the league average age, has 46 starts there (1.5 seasons) and hasn't had a track record of striking out 10.5 k/9 innings. Probably more of a mirage than a trend, agreed. But the premise was that it would be nice if he figured things out and was on an upward trend. I get it, people want to be down on him and for good reason. But he was a kid with baseball as his second sport. Not saying that attributes to the slow learning curve, but its not impossible that he blooms late. Likely, no. Would it be awesome, absolutely.

Stewart looks like he may be settling into a nice groove, although only 4 games. But since his two 6 ER gaffes, 4 games/1.48 ERA/10.74 K/9 ........ albeit with a 1.48 whip but if he can continue to get punchouts he can continue to bail himself out. Man, Stewart coming on late would be a fantastic development for the pitching pipeline. Berrios, Romero, Graterol, Gonzo, Stewart etc..... wouldn't look bad in a few years. I have nothing to say about buxton and sano that hasn't already been said.... bummer dude...... so far anyways.

Watch him come back and rake for the last two months and prove us wrong. Only to fall back into the buffet line next year. Meanwhile the twins sign no one because he figured it out for 2 months...... ugh
-
That’s exactly why it’s odd.... If it’s true they offered a lower package for him, that’s poor value attribution. No matter the rankings, the Nats got a steal and most agree. The royals may have asked for slightly more from Twins, sure. But it’s odd because slightly more than what Washington paid is still a good deal If it’s true the twins weren’t interested in Herrera then I’m not real sure what they are looking at. It’s an elite arm at a position of need for a decent price. And the bit about sentimental trades???? Cmon, that’s pandering. You don’t keep your job for feel good trades, you keep it for making good decisions. If they would have got what they wanted from the twins, they would have taken it and said the same thing. Twins are technically still in the race. So ya, I find it odd that we couldn’t have made a better offer. The “odd” about it is that it signals we aren’t looking that direction and don’t want to give up mid level prospects. This isn’t the mark of a team that thinks it can win now. It’s the mark of a team not sure with what it has. And maybe they are right to think that, just not a sign I want to see if I am looking forward to a push this year. So ya, odd. A team pushing this year finds a way to make that deal happen at that cost or slightly higher
-
If you could get 3 impact months out of a guy that could allow Molly to back off Reed and Pressly. While only giving up mid level guys..... I think you do it in a heart beat if you truly believe you still have a shot. That is one heck of a solid piece. I don't think the Twins odds are great but this would not be a make or break move and could have huge upside if the twins would sneak in the playoffs. Just seemed odd. We have good depth in the system at some of the positions they got back and figured we could have offered a better package.
-
My thoughts exactly. If he had years I would have understood. But KC is out and they shouldn't care who he goes to, highest bidder. It looks like it was 10/15/throw in.... so you could have gone Diaz/Blankenhorn and a mid 20 and outbid them...... Or something of that nature.. I would jump on that in a heartbeat for 3 months. If the FO truly believes that this is a blip and good things are ahead this season, this seems like a move that could have really paid off for the rest of the season and potentially playoffs. Who knows, might have been able to sign him too if wanted. Rodney's replacement next year. I guess that is why I work in Banking and not the FO of a MLB team
-
I wasnt sure where to put this, but I am very surprised that there is not a huge conversation about what the Nationals paid for Herrera. I would have a hard time believing that we shouldnt have been in those talks for the price that was paid. #10 prospect and some throw-ins? I'd have gone higher than that to get a very good bullpen arm to take some pressure off our current arms. Instead, we sign Belisle......................................hmpf. What am I missing. 1.47 ERA. I don't care if rental or not, that is a steal for the Nats

I know it is early, but this organization is the poster child for performing opposite of expectations. Think of the last 5 years and what we thought going in. Then they performed the exact opposite. It is quite comical. Here is to hoping that next year we are way down on this club. On another note, what is this really signaling. I haven't seen many guys (yes I know, Halladay) get shipped out in the middle of the season to "Break Down" mechanics to this extent and come back real strong. Is this a make or break situation for Sano? Just feels like this is the point where the kid fizzles out and disappears. It sounds super negative and jumping the gun, but what prominent major league hitter has let their craft get to a point where a team says we have to start over with this guy. I get it, the injury and lack of offseason and blah blah blah.... but this isn't a rare thing for guys to go through in regards to severity of injury and plenty of hitters have kept themselves in the kind of condition to acclimate back into the MLB. I just think this is a really bad signal for this kid. I hope he makes it through and gets back on track, but I am starting to believe the odds are really stacked against him. Maybe I am jumping the gun.
-
Even more perplexing, why would you sign that if you are Machado? You are two months away from a bidding war where you know there are big teams with big pockets that badly want you. No way he signs anything under 300 mil because that is what he will likely get come October/November
-
The only real reason to trade for Machado would be in hopes that he helps us rocket up the standings, otherwise why give up the prospects? If your reasoning is because it gives us a better shot at signing.... maybe from 3% to 6%... maybe We saw it with the Darvish talks, and maybe its a bit different, but even with comparable money and whatnot we still have a hard time. These bigger markets have all sorts of pluses. Not saying we shouldn't offer him, but your premise was to trade for him. If you trade, you do it either to win now (wont make a big enough difference) or try to woo him (see previous). To me, the odds are not worth giving up a real package for. Put your eggs in the FA basket and if you flame out, you lose nothing. If you flame out on 1 and 2 above, you lose prospects you could use or trade for better options.... maybe not as flashy though.
-
I love this thread.... The thought that this team should give up top prospects for Machado is absolutely absurd. We are all but out of the Wild Card race at 12.5 games back and Cleveland is figuring their stuff out and looking really nice. You would give up a good core of prospects for 2 months of Machado and believe that will rocket us up the standings? Odds are against you at this point. Face it, we had a nice year last year that may have been boosted by some luck. We aren't that far along from out worst place finish and may have gotten ahead of ourselves this year in believing this team could turn it all around in one+ year(s). Trust the process here. I still believe we are a year or so away from having these discussions and all this trade does is give away the future for 2 months. 3% chance he signs here.

Don't Give Up On These Twins Quite Yet
MangLitch replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
.... and troy williamson will someday learn to catch..... But in all seriousness, i couldnt agree more. Lynn is hopefully at the bottom of his performance, dozier/morrison/sano same. Buxton has some upside when he comes back and Planco could be the guy he was last year. Only downside is, if the above isn’t true, you have a much bigger problem on your hands. You start to enter the realm of not knowing what you really have and pressure will mount to make some sort of move. The downside of going from worst to playoffs so fast is expectations, which we may be a bit ahead of ourselves. But hopefully not.- 54 replies

CHW 5, MIN 2: Time is Running Out
MangLitch replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Don't forget he bent Santana's finger back while playing a game of thumb war. Santana tried to pull the tag team cheat with the finger and Molitor bent that b!@#$ right back. You don't cheat in thumb war versus Molly
