  1. Well he pitched the best game in the history of the college world series. He will have that and be a college world series champion the rest of his life, and I am not willing to take that away on faith in pitch counts. I will also say the odds this kid pitches in the major leagues is real low, so what are we actually protecting him from?
  2. I generally agree pitching hasn't been the problem, but there have been too many blown saves. Duke (2), Presley (4), Reed (4), Rodney (4), Rogers (2). But I think most of the blame sits on the shoulders of the offense, and the FO not having any decent players to replace injuries or slumps.
  3. If you extend him (not arguing either way) to something in the 3/30-36m, doesn't that mean he has to be a starter someplace place the next two years? 3B, SS or 2B? If you assume Polanco and Gordon are in the middle some place, that means he has to be 3B. Forcing Sano to 1B or DH, and Dozier will have to go and probably Mauer unless you platoon him and Sano at 1B and DH. So I guess this all comes down to what happens with Sano, man he can make or break this team for years to come.
  4. So Kevin Abel (freshman) threw 129 pitches in a complete game 2 hit, 2 walk game. Yet professionals somehow can't throw more than 100?
  5. ESPN had Dozier as a top 10 free agent for 18/19, besides the top 3 (Manny, Harper and Kershaw) the other top free agents are 30+.
  6. Isn't it time Kepler goes down to figure things out? He looked completely lost last night at the plate.
  7. Sadly without Buxton and Sano playing up to the level everybody hoped, this team is kind of screwed. Nobody that will return a good to great prospect and nobody really ready in the minors. (I like Gordon and Wade but are they really guys that turn a team around, or more of a young guy replacement type for a while to supplement stars?)
  8. Sorry didn't mean to come off as argumentative. I think quicker games are better for baseball in general, my real point was until baseball gets away from the 100 pitch limit, games are going to be "boring" with the Homer, K, walk outcome. Because with advanced analytics it is all about probability (like shifts) and winning, not about making the game better to watch. IMO
  9. If we can all agree that Colon is a mediocre starter, it didn't work too well with him. I know this is just one case and easy to point out because it was Sunday and it was the last game of a series. But I will say it general running up the starter pitch count is optimal to winning baseball. It got Price and Sale out of the game and gave the Twins a better chance of winning (and got them the win against Sale) So unless baseball can figure out how to stretch starting pitchers back out to 120 pitches, sadly this boring type of baseball will continue. Out of curiosity anybody seen an studies that 100 or so pitches have helped keep starters healthy?
  10. Don't disagree with what you are saying, but with pitch counts these days it is bad baseball to not try to run up the pitch count on the starter. Having the starter pitcher out of the game as soon as possible can change the whole series not just the game.
  11. The question I have with Romero, are the Twins hoping he goes down and works on some of the things he wasn't doing well with the Twins which could/should cause his numbers to maybe not look so great or are they hoping for him to go down and dominate? Same question I have for Meija, did he work on things at the beginning of the season and know they are working out, or did he just go back to doing the things that make his numbers look good in AAA to get called up?
  12. I disagree the season was derailed by injuries, the season has been derailed by under performance everybody on offense not named Rosario and Escobar. And the up and downs of the pitching staff beside Berrios, Gibson, and Hildy.
  13. Without Sano returning to at least 2017 or rookie year levels and Buxton hitting. Sadly there isn't much major league ready building blocks. (Berrios and Rosario, Romero is close but only 10 starts)
  14. Wasn't that what happened last year? Weren't Curtiss, Duffey, Busenitz and Moya all up last year?
  15. Curious, where would you spend the money next year? Outfield looks set, Starting pitchers seem set, we have a bunch of Relief pitchers holding spots on the 40 man, Between Polanco and Gordon, we have the middle covered. So that leaves 3B, 1B, and DH. Hopefully Sano is 1B or DH, and Escobar is 3B. Lewis, Rooker, Wade and Kirilloff are getting close and don't want them blocked by a long term contact.
  16. So I ask again, is there any Twins you wouldn't trade with him being the headliner? bleacherreport.com has in at 47, and others I find had him as a break out candidate for this year. If he says healthy he will be on all lists by year end.
  17. and I would add to your 100% correct comment, who is going to replace them that is going to be as good?
  18. I disagree with the notion that Graterol isn't ready to be headliner in a deal. How many players on the Twins right now wouldn't you trade to get another pitcher in the Twins organization with Graterol's upside? Berrios, Rosario (everybody would have last year) and Romero?
  19. Do the Twins even have 2 in the top 50?
  20. After looking at baseball reference, Liriano has 9.5 WAR since leaving, and Eduardo only has 6.6.
  21. So the Twins won the Liriano trade then?
  22. I want him, but even I think 3 of the top 5 is too much. And I am all for trading prospects. I can't imagine they would say no to that deal, but wow would that leave the system pretty bare. I would do Gordon/Kiriloff, Gonsalves, Garver, and Thorpe?
  23. I agree he didn't have his best stuff, but then why bring him out and ask him to be perfect, then knowing full well if he is not, you are bringing in a relief pitcher and basically asking him to be perfect as well?
  24. As long as we don't have to give up anybody we actually like or is good in the minors.
