  1. Kluber, Salazar, Carrasco, Bauer Clevinger is 29 and has been in the starting rotation on and off since 2016, when he started 10 games and then 21 in 2017 then 32 and 21. Bieber is 24 and started 19 then 33. And Civale started 10 games last year and one might assume because of the injuries to Kluber, Salazar, Carrasco and Clevinger and the trade of Bauer is how that happened. You might say they were brought along slow and forced their way into the rotation because they were good not because starting spots needed to be filled.
  2. In a time were baseball is having a hard time keeping fans interested they are going to make the game even harder or less entertaining for the fans? That isn't happening. They need to to penalize the teams with money and draft picks and change the penalty going forward to something that will actually deter the teams from cheating. And lots of people want to give the players a break, they were the ones cheating, if you really want to hurt the astros and others, ban the players like they do for steroids.
  3. Until the penalty is greater than the reward, there really is no reason to stop trying to get away with whatever you can. Polanco signed a extension after his suspension, Nelson Cruz has went on to make 10's of millions of dollars, Pineda signed a 20 million dollar contract while on suspension. Take away they teams championships and the teams still got the profits from the championship doesn't mean anything.
  4. "Do the Twins Really Need to Add Another Starter?" As of 1/16/2020 they don't NEED to add another starter, they have a bunch. I mean one is out at least half the year, another is injury prone and suspended for a 1/4 of the season, one has had pretty bad second half, one before his "contract" year was just above average, and 4 are basically rookies and one of them is injury prone. So do I fell confident in the above to win the central and go deep into the playoffs. ummm, not really, but super hopeful that two of those rookies pitch well enough to pencil in the rotation next year. So with that said, No they don't need to add another starter, but it would help this year and the future to bring in a pitcher you could pencil in the rotation for a least a few years, so they aren't going into every off season looking for 2,3,4 starting pitchers to fill out the rotation.
  5. Well the crow I ate for breakfast tasted pretty darn good. If I would have actually thought they would sign Donaldson, I wouldn't have been as critical of them not signing the pitchers.
  6. Last year was absolutely a success based on 101 wins, winning the division, homer record and some might say because they kept the core and prospects in tact, but mostly because it was fun to watch and see. But it also felt a little hollow because when this HUGE surprise was happening some of the fans seen this team was missing a few pieces and hoped like heck the Front Office seen how special this team was and would fill those needs and give the players and fans a chance at some super special. That didn't happen and then they got swept. So the fans were hoping for a little bit of excitement and talent being brought in to help this team this off season and nothing, sure they brought in a few arms that might help (hopefully will) but not one of my friends that are Twins fans, tweeted, texted or emailed saying sweet we got the player X. And for a team coming off of what they Twins did last season to basically do nothing to excite the fan base between that sweep and opening day is a complete failure (Only the biggest fans give two rats arse about spring training). The moves they made might be good baseball moves but most twins fans aren't on here breaking down these pitchers.
  7. He has no shot, how would they justify putting him in and leaving the other steroid users out?
  8. "Is Garver the best catcher in baseball? Is he one of the best offensive backstops in MLB history?" I love me some Garver, but lets not get crazy about Garver, He isn't the best catcher in baseball (yet) and is no where near one of the best offensive backstops ever at this point in his career (218 games and 5.7 oWar) and he will be 29 years old in a week.
  9. Good luck trading for any good to great pitcher if you think Cost makes them a negative trade value. Sure it would be great if the Sox ate the 50 million deferred money. But if he would have hit the open market this year instead of signing the extension I would believe some team would have paid him the 5/145 he got. Plus there is a chance if he returns to form he opts out after 2022. So it really would be 3/90.
  10. The only two trades I see the other team taking are possibly the Tigers and the Mets. Sale is 30 years old and had 218 K's 147 innings and a WAR of 2.3 in basically his worst season since becoming a starting pitcher. If the Twins could get him and no cash for Brusdar Graterol, C Ryan Jeffers, OF Gilberto Celestino, yes please, he is exactly what they Twins have needed for a long time. But no chance Boston would take that offer, ZERO, if they really want to get rid of him, they could get twice that at the deadline even if he is only slightly better next year than this year or wait until he is a bit healthier and get more. He is what I see happening, Boston keeps him and he is pretty good, around the deadline the Astros trade for him and they are back to their 3 big starting pitchers, the Twins and their fans are still talking about how great their prospects and just wait until 2022 when they are kicking butt. Sure Sano, Berrios, Buxton, Cruz, Odo, will be gone by then but you just wait it is going to be awesome. Maybe by then other teams will be willing to trade the Twins their best guys for a bunch of middle tier prospects.
  11. Didn't realize the rule change, which makes depending on 3 rookies even worse.
  12. I wish Gonzo and Romero would have realized it was just that easy to fix.
  13. Lets be honest the 5th spot will be a rotation of players going back and forth between AAA, unless one flat out is great. Thorpe starts and after the game he will be on a plan back to AAA Smelzter will be up ready to pitch in relief or the next start, then after the game he will be sent down and the next guy will be here. There really will be no reason to have 5 set starters, when then continue to keep guys fresh and innings count down by sending them down for 10 days. IMO
  14. It comes from this is the same story that was told when it was Sano, Buxton, Kepler, Rosario, Berrios, Gonzo, Romero, and bunch of other prospects that failed (not saying the ones above failed, just the ones that did). This group has had a great regular season and a good one and hopefully another great one this year. But the payroll gods are coming because this group is getting really expensive and nothing (very little) was done to help them get deep in the playoffs before that bill comes due, why would this next group be any different?
  15. At 7 million, it seems like a good bet they will him out there until he is hurt, even if he is a terrible as Perez became.
  16. He is the problem with these signings. #1 7 million is to much money to cut him if he is terrible or put him in the pen. Christ they couldn’t do that with Perez. #2 basically signing hill means not trade for a starting pitcher at the deadline, they will say can’t give up prospects for somebody that isn’t as good as hill or they will be so bad that the need for two starting pitchers is crazy to trade prospects for. IMO as much as I would have been pissed expecting rookies to pitch 3/5 of a rotation at least if they were good you could go get more, now not so much, and at this point no need to sign Donaldson he can only hurt the payroll flexibility when they are once again going to need a handful of starting pitchers
  17. based on your comment right above this, why would you ever extend anybody?
  18. So never try, also pretend the future is near but never really mean it and if you get a season like 2019, tell the fans that was great but we are building for the future, the future that will never actually come. Congrats this is the new way for the MN Twins, and I will never pay for a seat in the Stadium to support this, I will watch on TV or listen on the radio to the team I love, but never really allow my self to go all in, in my heart when I know the team really never as either.
  19. They burned payroll flexibility by signing two guys to contracts more than one year? Please share the kool aid, I would love to have some, honestly I would love to have some.
  20. Really? They spent 140 million on Corbin for 6 years. They spent 19 million on Sanchez for 2 years. They spent 10 million on Suzuki for 2 years They spent 9 million on Dozier for a year They spent 4 million on Adams for a year They spent 182 million on those guys overall and 50.83 million last year. Damn, I would love for the Twins to go all out adding 50 million to their yearly payroll. FYI, Corbin's yearly salary is 2 million less than Harper, plus they only got him for 6 years not 13.
  21. You don't have to be curious, the Royals won, there is no if they would have lost, because they didn't. The Cubs won trading away Torres, the Houston won trading away prospects, The Red Sox won trading away Moncada, the Nats won spending over 75 million on three pitchers.
  22. What to do now? Wait until the correct window is open and make a big time move. As fans we heard the FO office would do something when the window was open and we thought that meant any window, That is on us.
  23. As of December 23rd, can you tell me there is a different plan? As a sales manager and there is only so may available clients to buy whatever it is your selling, yes I would be disappointed that all the big client were gone, the lesser clients were gone and you are trying to tell me don't worry we have months before the deadline and that you may actually steal another client away from another company.
  24. A salary cap is going to solve this? How has that worked out in other sports? I mean have the Timberwolves ever got a free agent to come to MN? Besides Sutter have the Wild ever gotten a free agent to come here that wasn't some how directly related to something in MN? I am pretty sure the Twins have never spent up to what a salary cap would be. Quit making excuses for the Twins!
  25. agreed and I would add they are generally not part of plan A, they are part of the back up and back up to the back up plans and if they want to stay they have to force the team to make the hard decision. A good example would be the 2019 Twins, The plan was to have 5 established pitchers be the starting rotation. The back up plan was to fingers crossed on a bunch of rookies, that works for a team coming off a 78 win season. The 2020 Twins aren't coming off a 78 win season they are coming off a 101 and currently the plan is 2 established starting pitchers and 1 for three fourths of the season, and fingers crossed on 3 rookies for a quarter of the season and 2 rookie's for other three fourths of a season, and the back up plan is more rookie pitchers.
