  1. That's pretty quick for Turner. The Twins must value his defense enough that they think he can already help the pitchers. Buxton shouldn't be a surprise but now that it's confirmed, following the already highly anticipated ST games is going to be about 10x more exciting.
  2. Kubel did seem pretty confident he will make the roster, but I wouldn't count on it unless there actually was some kind of secret handshake. The deal he signed just gave the Twins 2 million reasons to send him to Rochester for the first couple weeks of the season.
  3. I agree but in signing these guys, I don't want someone who is going to HURT the team in 2015 and 2016. A SS on the wrong side of 30 who can't stay healthy and can only play against righties looks to be a liability by 2015 if not 2014.
  4. Biggio will get in barring some dormant steroid scandal emerges. Craig Biggio wating three years isn't some crime, not everyone gets in right away. Harmon Killebrew had to wait three or four years after all. Piazza looks to be getting in but I don't think most voters who kept him off the ballot did so because of "backne." They likely didn't vote for him because he admitted to reporters off the record that he used PED's and teammate Reggie Jefferson confirmed that he did. It is strange he is getting a pass. I wonder what happens if the spotlight is shinning brighter on him next year if some of these things get more scrutinized. Pudge Rodriquez will likely be in the same boat when eligible. Also fan voting sounds like a terrible idea to me. It would be like an MTV awards ceremony, the most popular get in. Bernie Williams, Paul O'Neil and Tino Martinez would have been in on the first ballot and Blyleven would be waiting for the veterans commitee.
  5. Yes probably. Poor Richie Sexson did not have a Sid Hartman in his corner! Happens all the time though. Sports writers throw a bone to a guy they covered for years. I'm sure Jacque will show that off to get a couple free drinks tonight.
  6. As he should. I'm in the anti-PED camp but his rationale is stupid. Morris and Maddox pitched in the same league for 8 years. When does he think the steroid era started? There is no firm date, but I think we can safely say Jose Canseco was juicing during Morris' tenure, mostly because he admitted as much. At the very least, he lists Mark McGwire, Rafael Polmeiro, Juan Gonzalez and Ivan Rodriguez as guys he saw juicing (or he actually injected) and every one of them were teammates with Conseco BEFORE Morris retired, meaning Morris also played with or against PED users.
  7. He does hit righties well, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he should not be on the field for 30% of the games, and that's without the consideration that he's almost surely going to miss 20-40% of the games anyway due to injury. I just don't see any good coming from committing 3/30 to a guy who is a part time player. If he does lose 30% of his games due to platoons and then 20% of his overall games due to injury the team is paying a guy $10 million over the next three years to play in just over half of the games. That's just not responsible.
  8. I agree that Sano missing 2014 wouldn't be a complete disaster but I would be pretty disappointed about him missing that much development time. With his level of development and considerating he may be rusty, he may not debut until 2016. However I don't know that getting Sano and Buxton on the same arb schedule is the best thing. Staggering two possibly large extensions might be more beneficial financially and diplomatically should those two have an internal competition regarding who is the future of the franchise..
  9. The arguement could be made that Eduardo Escobar is a better baseball player than Pedro Florimon, but if he was a free agent no one would give him a 3/30 deal simply because he's an upgrade. Drew needs to platoon, he is one of the worst hitters against left handed pitchers in the league and it wasn't a one year anomoly, his splits from 2012 were just as bad: .198/.260/.302. This guy should never play against lefties, no way should a team commit mulitple years to him.
  10. You forgot Bonds' rookie card: http://cdn1.swagbucks.com/content/uploads/prizes-4/image24590.jpg Thomas seemed to have gotten chubby cheeks, Bonds seemed to have gotten chubby everything.
  11. To me it sounds like everything is the same as last we checked in. Even if Ryan felt good about an upcomming diagnosis, it feels like he's hedging his bets in case he has to give everyone bad news. Still, I want to swear and throw things; how frustrating. Hitters can recover from TJ surgery much sooner than pitchers, but still, even if it was needed and Sano went under the knife in February he wouldn't see a pitch all season at any level.
  12. This is what puts me in the minority, if he's faking it's bad, but if he's not faking, it doesn't make it much better, he's still missing a boatload of games. I'm not a big Drew supporter, I'd take a shot on a one year deal, but considering he hasn't played 130 games since 2010 I think it's unlikely he does it regularly over the next three years. I'm also pretty concerned about his career high SO% at his age 30 season which was preceeded by his 2nd highest SO% season the year before. The limited number of games he plays combined with the increasing strikeout numbers have the look of an accelerated decline. These kind of guys seem to end up platooning very quickly. Speaking of platoons, check out his .196/.246/.340 slash against lefties last year. I'm not excited about giving a guy multiple years at $10 million per to share time with Pedro Florimon.
  13. I think your rankings need to be inversed. This off-season Terry Ryan is clearly opporating opposite of his instincts. Watch him in action
  14. Not enough low-carb menu options there.
  15. I have to say that I'm getting tired of people who want to see the steroid users inducted calling those that won't vote for them "The Morality Police." That's BS. I could buy an arguement around not basing a vote on what a player does off the field, but if you are actively cheating on the field and manipulating the record books for a huge payday voters should have every right to take that into consideration. They cheated, they knew they were cheating and they knew omission from the HOF would almost surely be one of the consequences of getting caught. They made the choice to risk their HOF induction when they took the PEDs. They didn't give a damn about the game then, why should voters be required to give them a pass now? It's not morality, it's enforcing the expected (even if unwritten) consequences of the actions taken by these individuals.
  16. Not to mention that both the local and national media's guestimation of who the Twins are "close" to has been wildly inaccurate. Pretty sure the Twins have been "close" to signing Arroyo since early November all while the Nolasco and Hughes signings came to light with only previous guesses and assumptions.
  17. I like the idea, he's probably done, but if there's even a chance he's not, he has more potential than any of the MLB signings the Twins have made. Still, the rumor a month ago was that Santana was going to have some kind of showcase in January. If he's close to signing, there will be no showcase. If the showcase has been scrapped doesn't that indicate either his confidence in an impressive showing is low or his estimation for his return was greatly overestimated?
  18. He's a hack with no credibility. Josh Johnson took a discount to play with the Padres, what were the Twins supposed to do? Even if the Twins make the highest offer to Tanaka he's not coming. So basically the Twins should save their money for a wing and a prayer. I don't know why NBC would pick up this clowns blogs. All his stuff that gets picked up is ludacris and makes the site look like a joke.
  19. I like the agressiveness but I just don't like the players. The money isn't an issue but the roster spots are. I don't want to commit three years to a SS who has never even had three healthy years in his career. I also don't want to lock up the DH spot for the next three years; I like that position being much more flexible.
  20. Yeah, how many threads have we discussed who gets DFA'd and no one caught word that one actually happened. How do the Twins keeps this stuff so cloak and dagger? No one from another front office saw the DFA listing and leaked it to any kind of media member? Did none of the Twins beat guys ask who was getting DFA'd, or did the front office simply refuse to answer? Is there some centralized DFA process that is open to everyone to view but no one bothered reporting the lowley Darin Mastroianni?
  21. If you're getting pinch hit for before the 6th inning, you were almost certainly pitching terribly to begin with.
  22. I don't exactly disagree, but I don't like basing the judgment by innings pitched. His bad innings were not better than Baker's non-innings in my book. Pelfrey's disasterous April-May were a gigantic reason this team was out of contention after the first month of the season. Paying Baker to do nothing then using replacement player X likely at worst would have yielded the same results with a decent chance of yielding better results.
  23. It probably depends on if the Twins were shopping him or if the KBO team came knocking at the Twins door. If the Twins DFA him I'm sure they told him that was a strong possibility and he should keep that in mind when making his decision.
  24. I don't know that Pelfrey was a better signing than Baker last year. Sure he played, but poorly. Pelfrey's -.3 BBR WAR would suggest Baker would have been a better signing even if he had not thrown a pitch. If we can talk in terms like addition by subtraction, surely subtraction by addition exists.
  25. I think this shows the Twins are already convinced the holes in Colabello's swing can not be fixed. With Doumit also gone, the bench/DH options once again look to be completely left handed. If the KBO follows through with this I wish Chris good luck.
