  1. You're right, I forgot he was a junior, there was some signing concerns. Still, he isn't and never was a high ceiling guy. The Twins may like him as a #2 but I don't think there are many pitchers who don't project to miss bats that have a high ceiling.
  2. I don't know, are you familiar with the mood of this forum most of the time? I'd say people are actually fighting AGAINST their basic instincts.

  4. I wonder also, but I suspect if they get a HS kid at #5, the second pick will be college or an easy sign HS kid. When they picked Buxton, they got a HS arm in Barrios, but he was an easy sign, they passed up McCullers even though I was dying for them to make it work. Another HS pick last year and an easy sign, low ceiling college senior was the pick. I like Kolek and cheer for Gatewood to develop properly, but one of the top college arms at #5 might yield the best combination for the top two picks.
  5. I've never read about any opt out, in fact I would guess there is none since he has incentives for being on the MLB roster for 30, 60 and 90 days. Those incentives would seem pointless if he could opt out right away.
  6. I'm sure it's all about defense. With a lot of these guys, they seem more concerned about their level of defense when it comes to the SS or catcher postions.
  7. It's also only March. These guys often need some repetition to build back up the arm strength after a few months of only modest baseball activity.
  8. Aside from production and Parmelee's lack of options, the Twins also have a $2 million incentive to send Kubel to Rochester. Kubel has to clearly be the better option, and so far that's not looking accurate. Parmelee, Arcia and Willingham will rotate the LF/RF/DH situation for the first month at which point Willngham basically becomes the default DH.
  9. [ I think most of us would be fine with trading Correia, but to do it now, you'll likely have to wait for an injury to a starter on a another team with an undesirable contingency plan. An injury like that is likely to happen, but we can't count on it.
  10. Who says the Twins passed on Santana? I find it more likely he passed on them. All his bonuses with the Orioles revolve around him making the team and number of starts he makes at the MLB level. Because of the ten or so options for the Twins five rotation spots, I'd think Santana would think twice about coming here if all offers were similar. I don't think the Twins had a chance to sign Santana considering he'll have a much eaiser time hitting his incentives, and likely a quicker shot at redemption with the Orioles.
  11. And they claimed Willingham at the deadline last year.
  12. Oh and this one: “He really doesn’t walk much and he’s still hitting .300,” Gardenhire said. “That says a lot. You think about it, if he starts walking more, that’s going to raise that (batting average) up. On-base percentage will be a little bit better. But he’s swinger. I don’t mind swingers, but he has to learn to take his walks when he gets them. He’ll get better.” I'll give him an early season pass, but that one makes it sound like he doesn't exactly know what goes into a BA or OBP, though certainly he does.
  13. I hope he shows enough to make Florimon an afterthought in short time. My favorite part: “I like the kid a lot,” Gardenhire said. “He can fly. As advertised. Short swing. Chops it. He can run, and he can pick it. He’s got a cannon. He’s got all the tools. Now if he can slow the game down enough. He’s got range. He’s got it all. Now it’s just a matter of if he harnesses everything enough to be consistent out there.” I guess he has all the tools. I know I can't wait to see this guy with a short, choppy swing show off some power! Or is that not a tool Gardy is familiar with?
  14. Maybe the Orioles are just that loaded?
  15. I'd like to see him here also. Though it only would have been for half a season at most. If he pitched well he would have been looking for a new free agent deal in 2015 anyway. If he didn't, well we would probably encourage retirement. As it stands, maybe it's best to wait and see if he's still got something left and bid on him for next summer.
  16. Yeah, it would have been hard to imagine that one could put together a lineup in which Trevor Plouffe was the most solidly entrenched member of the roster. And he bats #3 to boot.
  17. Does this mean the team still hasn't hammered out who's firstmate on this ship? Or simply that Provus doesn't know?
  18. I agree. I don't see too many egregious English offenses on this site. I've seen plenty of message boards that are utterly unreadable. We're pretty lucky here, there really aren't that many posts that you shake your head at. We seem to have a pretty articulate group. Or at least a group that puts a strong effort into what they post.
  19. I'd ask Trevor Plouffe if he's now able to pick up the ball off the bat faster now that he's not constantly looking over his shoulder.
  20. I'm glad to see that some personality is welcomed in the Twins locker room. I don't know that I like the talk about a "line" that may or may not be toed though. A line is pretty subjective, who's in charge of setting the "line" that should not be crossed? And is that line consistant for all players or does it get moved depending on the players skill level or frequency of instances of "attitude"?
  21. Poor grammar, misspellings, incorrect puncuation and failing to capitalize letters annoy me greatly. That being said, there have been times I've proof read my own post three or four times and the next day I still found a mistake or at least a passage that I wish I would have written better. Unless I know my past posts are infallible I find it best not to critique, as surely some detective could come back and throw a past mistake of mine back in my face.
  22. The most under appreciated manager in Twins history?
  23. Graph or not, I don't think the Twins are unique in the Tommy John market. As to the question of letting them pitch/throw after having elbow pain, that may be a valid point. On the other hand, Ervin Santana has been pitching with a partially torn UCL for about half a decade.
  24. I'm not a Twins apologist and I don't believe that would happen, not even for a second. Heads are on the chopping block, this team has lost 90+ games three years running. No one is going to be foolish enough to tell the fans they need to wait three additional years to compete. If anything, a Sano injury would mean it is more likely that they WOULD spend money to compensate for the expected gap he would fill.
  25. Or the 2nd or the 3rd. AZ is reportedly asking for a Travis D'arnaud type of catcher prospect. Pinto isn't in that class.
