  1. What's this fast track talk? There's about a half dozen bullpen arms in Rochester calling BS every time Guerrier, Burton and Swarzak pitch. The country club is still clearly functioning.
  2. Not in the 1st two rounds? I'm suspect of that. I don't think that many GM's would reasonably believe more than a few pitchers in this draft could do what he did in rookie ball last year. Maybe he thought the poster meant Ian Thorpe that Olympic swimmer.
  3. Ha, nice backhanded compliment there.
  4. Walks are over dramatized in my book. Six is too many but really, 1 hit and 6 BB is better than 6 hits and 1 BB and no one would even both mentioning that.
  5. BPA for me, even if that means pitchers in the first five rounds. Though to be fair, I'm so starved for front line pitching with this club I probably wouldn't say the same thing if it was hitter heavy and pitching weak.
  6. Which means they might draft one of us in the 2nd round and pay us in Arby's coupon's.
  7. It is a pretty awesome trick though.
  8. This stuff about Gordon being a near "lock" for the Twins seems a bit odd. Is there a team with tighter lips than the Twins? No one is reporting any worthwhile quotes from the front office. It all seems like conjecture due to the Twins heavy presence at Gordon's games, and conjecture is not a "lock." Also to consider, Gordon played 2 1/2 hours away from the team's home base at Ft. Myers. It stands to reason they saw him play a lot. I wouldn't be upset with Gordon, but I'd probably be disappointed if they passed up Kolek, who by the way the Twins also had scouts constantly follow, including Deron Johnson.
  9. I think the Cardinals will have a hard time moving him because as mentioned several times, they will ask for a lot. However it seems to me that the players value still comes more from perception that from numbers. The perception of Jay is that he is losing his job to a rookie and while he can play CF, he's better in the corners where his bat doesn't profile as well. I don't think the Cardinals will get a fair offer they like and Jay will stay.
  10. Michael and Polanco aren't exactly interchangable as far as prospects go. I'm guessing hardly anyone here would want to give up Polanco in this deal while nearly everyone here would give up Michael without hesitation.
  11. Humor me but I this is a list of who I think may be Twins targets. If available in round 2: AJ Reed 1B/RHP KY Jake Stinett RHP MD Cameraon Varga RHP HS (OH) Ti'quan Forbes SS HS (MS) Jacob Gatewood HS (CA) (duh) Brian Anderson 2B/OF AR Nick Burdi RHP Louisville Later: Cole Tucker SS HS (AZ); Ryan Castellani RHP HS (AZ); Gunner Heidt SS C of C (SC); Grayson Greiner C SC; Jordan Montgomery LHP SC; Andrew Chin LHP BC; Mitch Keller RHP HS (IA); Max Povse RHP UNC Greensboro; John Little OF HS (OK); Austin Cousino OF KY; Jordan Schwartz RHP Niagra; Spencer Turnbull RHP ALA; Matt Morgan C ALA; Chris Oliver RHP AR; Brian O'Keefe C St Joe's; Bradley Roney RHP S Miss; JD Davis 1B Cal St Fullerton
  12. Well I think he was implying that the Twins would have a hard time getting any other higher upside picks signed if Rodon insisted on taking up a higher percentage of the money pool. Also, by demanding over slot, the player is basically saying, "Hey, give me money that would otherwise be going to one of my new teammates." I think it goes without saying that this is a pretty selfish attitude. Though I guess I said it anyway.
  13. The Twins had a bunch of scouts at Louisville's regionals last week.
  14. I'd guess anyone the Twins pick at #5 will end up playing at the MLB level. But we can't pretend that it's a lock that Gordon's bat or defense absolutely will be strong enough to be an above average SS let alone be a starter. This is a good draft, but there's nothing here that's sure fire. That goes for any of these guys. Everyone is seriously over exaggerating the floor of these guys, especially the "safe" players.
  15. I agree that the pundits clearly have more knowledge than us. I don't think that changes a whole lot though as they are giving us the assumed information we are all going off of. I don't think it's so much about lacking knowledge as it is preference of what is presented. I'm not a Nola guy and Gordon is lower on my list than a few others, but I will readily acknowledge that there is nothing wrong with the pundits rankings. Simply, they rank Nola high because he is regarded as a safe pick and Gordon is high because he plays a scarce position. For me, those factors are much, much lower on my priority list. I'm not disagreeing that those are important factors for the pundits or other fans, or other front offices. They're just as important to me, thus I wouldn't wish my team to weight those factors as heavily. No doubt about it.
  16. Well the negative reactions are basically just concerns, because as you noted, there's an IF regarding the success of the approach. It seems to be new. I think most of us are for inovative ideas, but if the ideas have very little in the way of a track record, our optimism is based more on faith than on proof. I like the approach, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't have concerns.
  17. So Span sounds like next year's Kubel/Bartlet/Guerrier. Only he'll still likely get a major league contract.
  18. I think KLaw is off on this one. The Twins haven't been down to see Nola in over a month but have had people watch Newcomb regularly. I think Newcomb is their choice over Nola at this time.
  19. Gladden isn't the best but I think he has improved over the last couple of years. Though there are still some brutal moments. Too many brutal moments I suppose. What gets me is how much Provous gets out of his way. He's supposed to be the pro and I swear there are ten minute stretches when he is supposedly in the booth where he doesn't say a word. The color/play-by-play dynamic is severely blurred here sometimes.
  20. If the Twins are contending, they'll likely keep Willingham around. If they're not, they really do need to try to get something for him. They missed out on getting a nice return from him two years ago during his career year. As for Eric Farris, he is a 28-year-old minor league journeyman. If he gets called up something went terribly wrong with Dozier/Escobar/Santana/Nunez. He's nothing more than minor league depth
  21. Moving these guys off SS could have as much to do with a finicky organization as the players inability to man the position. Dozier was an acceptable SS in the minors and after a poor initial tryout was moved to 2B. There is nothing I have seen from Dozier the last two years that would indicate he couldn't play SS. I'm also of the belief that had JJ Hardy been developed by the Twins, he would have been moved from from SS long before he reached the majors simply because his size and lack of speed profile against the position. To be fair, I think many clubs would have done the same.
  22. Right, it's a low risk bet. Odds are that a couple of AAA pitchers would pitch better than him. More so, there are probably several AA and AAA pitchers that would pitch as well or negligibly worse. Correia is among the league's worst pitchers. If the only risk of losing him is that the guy replacing him will be significantly worse, why wouldn't anyone take that chance? The odds are highly in the houses favor here.
  23. Well they make up for it by showing games played by teams in New York, LA or the Miami Heat ten times.
  24. I agree, it used to be the highlight of ESPN. MLB Network is clearly better and more knowledgable, but that should probably be expected. I also saw Baseball Tonight once this year and thought about how I used to watch it religiously but couldn't stand it any more. It certainly isn't the same, but I don't know that it changed nearly as much as we did. I suspect our expectations are just higher now. The internet, Bill James and social media has made us much more knowledgable but Baseball Tonight still caters to the fans we used to be.
  25. Will the Rockies be offended if he mistakenly wears a Twins cap at the All-Star game?
