  1. ***Moderators Note*** A moderator's note seems utterly pointless as I can't believe that anyone who's posted here the past hour didn't already know they crossed the line whether it was trolling, personal attacks or calling out other posters for violations within the threads. I'm confident we can discuss something as benign as the DH with much less antagonism and fury.
  2. I'm guessing he also rolled over in his grave when they started doing reply, inter-league games, introduced the DH, expanded the season to 162 games and let Jackie Robinson play too.
  3. If the Brewers are going to sell Lucroy in a salary dump, they likely wouldn't take Nolasco and Suzuki's contracts back. I don't think that package does anything for a rebuilding team. Milwaukee will want more than the stuff the Twins don't have room for. Generally, any trade that brings us a player we want is going to hurt. I don't think that trade stings much for the Twins. Assuming Nolasco and Garza are a push, and frankly I'd rather have Garza, Lucroy and the very talented Smith are coming to Minnesota for Suzuki, Darnell, Tonkin and Arcia. Guys who have tenuous at best spots on the Twins roster.
  4. The Winter Caravan has been a staple of the Twins' offseason for decades, back into the 60's I believe It's largely an exercise in spreading goodwill and promoting their product but once in awhile some nice nuggets are dropped for the fans. I recall one year when Gardy was asked during a stop in my city of Fargo whom of Cuddyer, Span, Gomez or Young would be the odd man out of the OF picture, Gardy not so slyly indicated it would be Young. Gardy later acted surprised that this got picked up by the Twin Cities media and subsequently MLBTR. I missed Tony O, Tyler Duffey and Trevor May in Fargo today due to waiting on a pokey repairman. My father did get to see Paul Molitor and Byron Buxton in Detroit Lakes today however, and insignificant as it may be, I'll relay the thoughts of the manager, second hand at least: Miguel Sano will be in RF. It could still be subterfuge if that's how some folks want to view it, but per my old man Molitor didn't couch this statement, there wasn't any suggestion that it may happen, or they'll have to see how it plays out, or they are planning for him to play there, it was just flatly, "Sano will be our right fielder". They expect Byung-Ho Park to start slow and Molitor specially compared him to fellow Korean Jung Ho Kang telling the fans that Park will need time to adjust to the speed of the pitches. The implication according to my dad was that this would be done at the MLB level. Molitor said we should expect a lot of young hard throwing strikeout guys in the pen. My dad thought this was in response to not addressing the bullpen in free agency, but he couldn't remember the exact question. This response is both encouraging and awkwardly hilarious to me because Molitor was sitting next to the decidedly non-hard throwing non-strikeout oriented Casey Fien. Anyone else get to the caravan? Any bombshells dropped?
  5. And goalies shouldn't be taking shots in a shootout. Wait, that I actually would like to see, unlike pitchers hitting.
  6. Not today, but back in the 70's and 80's when those guys were getting in, it was different.
  7. Ok, so will I or won't I be able to watch games online by 2017? I ask because if I can I will surely be fired.
  8. If the Twins wait 7-8 years to sign those guys, they're as good as gone, unless they aren't very good.
  9. Sure, there are literally a half dozen guys that should be in AA-MLB that have a shot at what his potential could be as a reliever. Like I said, if he was out of options, then yeah, stick him in the MLB pen and cross our fingers.
  10. I don't care about Randy Johnson or Jim Hooey or Wilt Chamberlain. I don't care if there hasn't been a reasonable comp in the history of the game. If he still has three pitches, he should be given a shot at starting, and not just at AAA. A starter who can throw 95+ is way more valuable than a reliever. Besides, if control is his issue, it's not like that's going to improve in the bullpen pitching far fewer innings. I'm more than willing to ride the starter train for one more year, if he was out of options that would be a different story.
  11. Yeah, Jim Palmer, Bob Gibson, Sandy Koufax, Juan Marichal, Fergie Jenkings, Robin Roberts, Whitey Ford, Don Drysdale and Catfish Hunter were all contemporaries that finished with fewer than 300 wins, most of them way fewer. His years as a reliever probably hurt him quite a bit; unlike Dennis Eckersley, he didn't exactly thrive in his new role.
  12. Trump's going to need a running mate, and who knows what his social and economic positions will be next month. They truly could be anything.
  13. Somehow there needs to be less familiarity with the investigators and the prosecutors. It wouldn't be very efficient for cops to be moved from their jurisdiction, but perhaps the prosecutors could be rotated through the state. For federal crimes, prosecutors from other states should even be assigned. You can't expect men and women who work closely together to contradict each others findings publicly.
  14. Well if rosters are going to expand from 25 as has been discussed, it would absolutely make sense to bring the DH to the NL. The players union has to be in favor of this as the DH is a potential landing spot for aging veterans who struggle in the field and may otherwise have little attraction to a MLB team.
  15. Oh, Trump has been going nuts on this issue the last week or so.
  16. Chapman and Rosenthal never got a chance, and it's probably too late now. I would have given both a shot, just as I'd give Meyer a shot.
  17. Well, it should have also been obvious when they tried to paint a Wisconsin man as NOT being a murderer. That was the dead give away it wasn't objective.
  18. Sure, I get it. His character, Shane was pretty emotional, often manic I'd say. I'm going to guess The Punisher is going to be played cool, stoic and ruthlessly just. In other words Carol from TWD. Hopefully Melissa Mcbride has offered him some tips.
  19. Ted Cruz I believe.
  20. John, I can't help but notice Enos' questions number two and three were asking for food suggestions yet you mainly were pushing beer on him. What I'm getting at is....well done!
  21. I agree, if the cops did this, they did it because they thought he was guilty, not because they did the murdering. I would also argue that the frame job, if there was one, was not masterful, but very poorly done with huge holes and leaps of logic. In fact, with the bones found in the quarry and the car found poorly hidden on his property, if the cops DIDN'T plant evidence, to me the most likely scenario is that Avery framed himself to frame the cops. And that just sounds crazy. I also don't think it would take more than two cops to do the dirty work. The other non-felonious cops may strongly suspect those two of being dirty, but they'd likely have little to no proof and suggesting such publicly would put a guy they probably think is guilty back on the street. And to be fair, if we had a guy who the majority of the community strongly believed to be a murdering rapist, there would be a fairly large contingent of the population that would be A OK with the cops breaking the rules to put him away. I can't imagine the pressure to do so in a small town.
  22. I think this spelling is more appropriate.
  23. Thanks for posting and welcome to TD. I hope it's not impertinent but I googled you after your post made it clear that you had a high degree of personal knowledge about our team's new scout. You too have a very impressive baseball resume, thanks for contributing here.
  24. I'm wondering if Luke Cage season 1 is going to happen after JJ season 1 or if it will be a prequel kind of thing. More seasons of JJ and Luke Cage seem kind of odd unless those two aren't going to be interacting any time in the near future. Seems like it could, perhaps should be a co-ed production. Edit: Though a co-ed show would probably take away from the huge Girl Power theme that JJ carefully cultivated.
  25. You hated the character? Or the actor? Because I kind of think we were all supposed to hate the character, which obviously means he succeeded. Tangent: Also, funny to see that Rick (and obviously Carol) have become way more ruthless than Shane was.
