  1. I agree that the Twins biggest disadvantage almost certainly lies with the TV revenue. However I dont know that Victory Sports would be a great boon. The team clearly didn't do their homework, they created this station and immediately began demanding ESPN rates from the distributors despite only having one program that anyone would care about, and only during the warm months. How could they not have reached agreements with distributors prior to creating their station? They should have known their demands would not be met. Additionally they must have set the price point only slightly above their expenses because they didn't negotiate lower rates, they just abruptly quit the station and crawled back to FSN. I would think that meant they were going to have to profit almost exclusively on ad revenue. I think the team got in way over their head and even if it caught on, it was bound to be a disaster. But back to the Twins crawling back to FSN; a month into their season they only had something like 10% of their marketing area able to view games. They came to FSN hat in hand, I think there's no way FSN didn't bend them over. I've never heard of a generous TV exec and the Twins had zero leverage. The Twins aren't getting anything close to what other teams currently get. They need this TV deal over ASAP.
  2. That hardly seems fair, who has said none? Doesn't the prosecution have the right to present their FULL case? They did to the jury, they did not to those of us viewing the documentary. We have no clue what other facts were not presented because we didn't see the full trial. Reasonable doubt is a judgment call unfortunately, not a stone cold fact. Even so, you are not giving the prosecution a fair chance unless you think the filmmakers presented the entirety of their argument. Even if they showed 99.9% of the prosecutions argument, we have no idea if that .1% might be the evidence that removes all reasonable doubt. It seems like a double standard that people are questioning the reasonable doubt of Avery's guilt without also thinking that there is reasonable doubt that the prosecution had presented a stronger case than what was shown in the documentary. And I feel sick defending a group of people who appear to be decidedly unethical and awful.
  3. How about Chargois? Frankly I hope he says both often this year. I don't look at the list above and see anything remotely interesting.
  4. Well the easiest way to stop illegal immigration is to make legal immigration or at the very least asylum much, much easier. Seeing that the politicians most opposed to illegal immigration are also opposed to sweeping immigration reform except to make it stricter, it's hard to take them seriously when they say they support legal immigration.
  5. I don't think trading Plouffe requires signing another OF.
  6. But I think the point being made is that without seeing the full trail, we can't make a fair assessment of reasonable doubt. I'm guessing nearly everyone who saw the documentary would agree the case had reasonable doubt as presented to us by the filmmakers. Scumbags or not, we haven't allowed the prosecution to present us their full arguement. If I had to bet, I'd guess I'd still have reasonable doubt, but for all we know the filmmakers left out the selfie Avery took while drinking the victims blood straight from her decapitated skull.
  7. Yeah, and seeing as that delusional and self-serving candidate is demanding this, it kind of proves the lunacy behind the belief that these ideas couldn't or shouldn't be considered.
  8. Only reason for LF would be because he's never played OF and the RF wall could cause issues. Still, as Hunter showed last year, Target Field's RF is the best fit for a guy with limited range. RF is so small it's rarely an issue.
  9. I like Eddie and don't think he'll completely go in the tank this year, but it seems guys with poor OBP are the most prone to regression and slumps. I don't care so much about the strikeouts but 0-20 hitting slumps just don't seem to compound if your still getting on base 3-4 times by drawing a free pass.
  10. Well to be fair, I think people are upset about this off season's inaction and it's boiling over with this largely benign move. Does anyone really give more than a shoulder shrug about exchanging Darnell for Strong? And frankly, I'm not upset that the Twins got Darnell off of the 40-man, good chance he clears waivers anyway.
  11. I actually didn't have such high expectations for Fury Road. I loved Mad Max and The Road Warrior, but that was back when I was a kid and loved action movies without being able to discern what makes them good or where they have problems. Fury Road was getting good reviews, but so have Marvel movies and Rocky sequels, so I was expecting to see another fun but still explosion driven action movie. But it was really, really well made and I'm only surprised that it got a Best Picture nomination because I didn't expect the Academy had the capability to recognize this in an action film.
  12. I guess Ryan didn't agree, but I thought Darnell handled the pressure well, he gave up nary a hit nor a run, earned or otherwise, after his highly effective call up last year.
  13. Darnell has a 90 MPH fastball. I can't find any kind of scouting report for Mike Strong. I have no problem losing Darnell, but all things being equal, this guy still doesn't move ahead of Rogers or Melotakis in my mind so it seems pretty lateral. But seriously, the Brewers DFA'd this guy to clear room for the Rule 5 in which they took Zach Jones. I'd rather still have Zach.
  14. I think I see where this is headed. Let's see if we can limit our disappointment regarding the loss of Zach Jones to one exclamation point.
  15. Jason Wheeler, Alex Muren and Matt Summers all went to college in the LA area. The description "rising prospect" is probably loose enough to encompass all players and complimentary enough to use for a guy you're not going to name. But I'm guessing there are tons of baseball academies and training facilities in the area. The fact that other players from other teams are there suggests it may be a place where teams ask some of their players to go to.
  16. Considering how much darker Man of Steel was compared to every other Superman incarnation, one would think Suicide Squad would be made pretty dark and edgy. But to me, judging by the trailer, they may be trying to make a dark comedy with more focus on the comedy part. If they want to make this work, and work with the future DC movies, I think they really have to make these guys the bad guys; irredeemable and absolutely villainous. However if they are going to be the leads in their own film, I have a strong feeling they are going to make them anti-heros, because those are all the rage right now; good guys who do bad things, or bad guys who do good things. That's already supposed to be Batman by the way. These guys are supposed to shoot your kids and eat your wife while you watch.
  17. These things are going to be fun to read while this topic is still hot, but that one seems to take two huge leaps of logic, and that's aside from the giant coincidence that two separate groups did the framing independently. 1st, that theory basically assumes the cops planted the blood, the key and due to the assumption of Avery's innocence, the bullet, all to cover up for the fact that the brother and boyfriend were trespassing. Judging by the evidence that was allowed in both trials, there's no way the judge would have thrown out any evidence just because two civilians trespassed and found the car, probably not even if they were law enforcement. Also, there would have been no reason for the cops to take the key, it should have remained in the ignition. 2nd, how did the two boys contact Colborn? As mentioned in the article calling dispatch would have gotten their call recorded, so they would have somehow had to know that A ) Colborn would help them cover their tracks, and B ) know his personal phone number. It's a fun read, but I my warning lights start flashing when some nobody calls their own article, "This Is The Most Credible 'Making A Murderer' Theory I've Seen So Far" and says they saw it on Youtube.
  18. I guess it boils down to the fact that I want to see the prospects as soon as possible and between Abad or a more accomplished veteran, Abad is the path of least resistance. They may not be up right away, but they'll be up a lot sooner if they aren't blocked by a guy on a less palatable contract. The Twins giving young pitchers the run of the house is out of their comfort zone, but that's what I want to see happen. Their offseason talk and their offseason inaction is giving plausible hope that they may actually be considering this option. They did it with the young bats last year.
  19. Christie seems more in line with politicians of yore. You worry about his under-the-table activities and only slightly about his policies. He also idolizes pretty left-wing Bruce Springsteen so that buys him a point in my book. Not that that point is getting very far.
  20. I was doing my best to be magnanimous. This topic makes that difficult.
  21. Bush is a strong possibility as Iowans aren't particularly radical In either direction, and I have little interest in Bush, but who is it you are hoping for? Bush and Christy, along with Paul or Rubio if you squint really hard are the only guys who are even close to reasonable and level headed.
  22. I think the Twins straddled the fence in 2015, they got some free agents and relied on some prospects. As it turned out, the guys, both the bats and the arms, outplayed the vets in nearly every way. To me the youth movement was by far the most encouraging part of 2015, the free agent movement was disappointing. I'm ready to go all in with the part of the plan that worked. If the Twins fail at the drafting/developing angle, I would be upset if they didn't go nuts and do the free agent thing and I wouldn't settle for a Bastardo, I'd want a whole lot more. I'm all for changing a losing strategy. In 2011 I was all for going big in free agents, but the team didn't do that and instead implied a rebuild was the plan and a focus on restocking the system was made. Deviating from that now would be like watching the build up during Star Wars, but instead of showing the scene of the attack and blowing up the Death Star, at the last moment they decided they'd show us a scene of diplomatic relations attempting to end the reign of the Empire. This is what they said they were going to do, I want to see them follow through. As Mike or someone else said somewhere above, I don't want them to be able to fall back on an excuse that they failed because some veteran didn't come in and do what was expected of him. I want them to man up, take the plastic off of these guys, put their necks on the line and try to prove that they can draft and develop players.
  23. I don't want May to stay in the bullpen, but I actually think this works out better for a team, because I'd think a scuffling Abad would more likely mean the team gives Rogers or Melotakis a shot. A scuffling Bastardo means more struggling Bastardo because the Twins have him on a multi-year deal. They'll pull the plug on a guy on a minor league deal much sooner than a guy under contract in 2017.
  24. Chattanooga's rotation is looking a bit suspect though. If any of those four guys end up starting in AA, I'd have to think it's Gonsalves.
