  1. I prefer the flexibility of the super utility route. When Buxton takes the CF job, I wouldn't be surprised if the Twins go the Jarrod Dyson mold with Santana. Of course the problem is Santana is neither the base runner or defensive replacement that Dyson is.
  2. I was actually thinking the opposite, as Arcia now has to compete with Santana along with possibly Sweeny, Benson, Mastroianni and Kepler. Nunez now competes with Polanco, and only maybe.
  3. She would probably be a good match for O'Malley as a running mate. He's, um, got a good shot I'm sure.
  4. Tate was nearly everyone's top pitcher. Plenty of people were ranking Aiken, Allard and Fulmer over Jay. We saw lots of projections with Jay being the #2 pitcher taken but that was mostly because everyone knew the Twins were interested and simply projected him there.
  5. As do I, but at this point, my number one goal would be to keep Cruz and Trump out of the White House even if the compromise is that Clinto is the nom. Frankly, I wish Elizabeth Warren was an option.
  6. -St. Peter mentioned that Dan Gladden and Cesar Tovar finished second and third in the voting, respectively.- Good players both, but I liked last year's idea of not requiring someone to get in. Regardless of his broadcasting skills, Gladden could get in more on a lifetime achievement with the organization. Someday. Hunter makes sense, they can do Gardy next year. Otherwise just wait until the clear cut guys are eligible, Mauer, Morneau, Nathan, Cuddyer maybe, Santana. Speaking of which, these rules seem pretty informal. Does Santana actually have to retire? Or be out of the league for a year, because... -The Twins will have two translators. One will speak Korean and work with the Twins and Park. One will be a Spanish interpreter which is something MLB is requiring for all teams.- I'm mostly just disheartened that MLB had to require this. Which teams didn't think it made enough business sense to do this one their own?

  8. I think the price on Bruce would not be that low. Otherwise the Reds would hold him until July hoping for the same rebound in production.
  9. His entire agenda would be dead in the water. He'll never be able to get moderate Democrats to back his ideas. It would be four years of inaction which will only help refuel the ultra-rightwingers and give them a legit shot at winning in 2020. Clinton may be boring and a bit troublesome, but if a more moderate candidate such as her wins the nomination, someone who has political clout and some name brand appeal (and for some, the appeal of being the first woman president) the November election is going to be a landslide in her favor as enough Republicans will too embarrassed and uninterested in voting for a sociopathic nut job who will try to reset social issues back 60 years. If Clinton is the nominee, the tea-party is going to implode if Trump or Cruz wins the nomination. They'll carry about ten states, mostly small ones, and the Republican party will finally have to concede that what they're doing now will never work. I'll gladly take a Democrat who isn't my first (or second, or third) choice if it finally brings the Republican party back into the realm of sanity. And frankly, I think a lot of Republicans feel the same. They'd like to return to concentrating on conservative economic issues, not conservative social issues.
  10. Pending May's results and spot, he's the hardest throwing guy in the pen using these projections. I'd bump him if one of the young hot-shots are ready, but I'd still keep him over Fien and I don't need to give Nolasco much of a leash before I'm ready to pull the plug on him.
  11. I'll trade the MLB pen for Chattenooga's straight up.
  12. I'm not surprised by Stewart. What I am surprised is that Kepler isn't in the top 50. With all the steam he had last year, I would have expected him to be top 30.
  13. I like Bernie, but the issues he sticks to are basically all of the fiscal variety. Every time foreign policy comes up he changes the topic. Also the socialist angle is going to hurt him in the big picture. The only way a guy like him gets into the White House is if he gets on the ticket of a more moderate Democrat who ends up having 8 fairly popular years, then runs with name brand recognition the following election. That's a long wait, so basically not Bernie, someone much, much younger.
  14. The "never bothering to pretend" is the most accurate part of this statement. Give it up, he's one of yours whether he's full of crap and running solely for attention or not.
  15. I kind of think Plouffe is a poor fit for the current team. On a good team he'd bat no higher than 7th but he'll likely bat 5th-6th due to seniority and lack of options. It wouldn't be a huge issue for some teams but his poor OPS as a vet in the middle of the order does not play well.
  16. He would probably also be more comfortable throwing a 70 MPH meatball. His slider is better than his sinker. If he doesn't want to increase the slider usage due to injury concerns, that's his prerogative. He can still use it more efficiently, that is in two strike counts, use the sinker for early in the at bats. Great pitchers with low strikeout totals are the exception, not the rule. The majority of great pitchers in this era miss a lot of bats. If you have the ability to strike guys out, you should, it takes all luck, chance, fate or whatever people wish to call it out of the equation.
  17. I don't get how someone loves Cruz and hates Trump. They're radicalism is nearly identical, they mostly differ in media savvy and hair. And if Trump is secretly a Democrat what's the plan? He gets the Republicn nomination and then withdraws from the presidential bid the last week of October? You understand how that sounds I hope.
  18. Yup. I want the players to be really good or really bad. Really bad guys get replaced, the ones that are just OK, usually don't. The young guys might not pan out, but we need to know. And I'd rather find out now, than have to wait until 2017 when this team will hopefully be ready to contend. If the youngsters spectacularly implode with little hope of improvement, I'll be all aboard the free agent bandwagon this time next year.
  19. I agree and I wish they would have. I like taking away as many safety nets as possible so they are forced to do this relatively soon though.
  20. I've said multiple times that I liked Mark Lowe, think he'll be the biggest free agent relief steal and I would have taken him.
  21. Jones is only gone if Milwaukee keeps him on the 25 man all year. If the control sensitive front office isn't concerned about their control, neither am I. I have no problem with some wildness, particularly from relievers. And I'm sure you know that all three of those guys' control improved significantly after dreadful starts to the season. Also, Melotakis can be added to your list. And Reed, Peterson and even Alex Wimmers and Michael Tonkin throw harder than the journeymen, low ceiling, safety nets everyone seems to want around here. It seems that when the team looks to add safe, blase vets to the rotation and lineup like Correia, Pelfrey and Hunter, there is a lot more resistance. Yet we talk about adding these types of guys to the pen and lots of people start drooling.
  22. I agree, that $12.5M posting fee is no different than the Twins spending $12.5M adding a new bar to Target Field. Park doesn't have to claim that on his taxes, it's not payroll. I agree with the bullpen approach though. The Twins can't get guys that throw 97 MPH in free agency, they can get them in AA though. I understand folks' concerns about losing extra games in April/May because the team may not have the stones to call up the hard throwers right out of the gate. I know it may not be popular, but I'm fine with losing a few extra games in 2016 if it means we actually get to see these guys in 2016 instead of having to wait another year because the bullpen is stocked with guys who aren't good enough to be a part of the solution, but not bad enough to lose their jobs. The team has had a history of being so conservative that that last sentence should be a real concern. Loyalty to veterans and fear of the unknown may be this team's biggest problem. I like thinking that the team may be putting themselves into the position where they cannot fall back into their comfort zone. 30-year-old relievers are definitely part of their comfort zone.
  23. As do most left handed relievers. Non-closer lefties in the pen might be the most combustible position on the whole team. Sipp and Bastardo haven't been models of consistency, simply less inconsistent than many of their peers. Lately. I'd much rather take the gamble on the upside of Melotakis and/or Rogers than two low ceiling vets already on the wrong side of 30. A guy on a minor league deal won't make the front office think twice about promoting them, a guy on a two or three year deal would.
  24. Doesn't this sentence just prove that the Republican party expects everyone to fall in line and be compliant with every ideological position or they'll be blacklisted from the party? God forbid, someone who identifies as a Republican has one moderate to liberal idea.
