  1. If this team makes early round choices even in small part due to area ties, they might as well just fire all the scouts and put the PR department n charge of the draft. Logan Shore? Please no, haven't we gotten over that whole right-handed, low 90's, low strike out, control pitcher bit? The last couple years, the TJ guys like Aiken and Giolito have fallen near the Twins range, maybe they can look at Matt Krook.
  2. For a relief pitcher with a 91 MPH fastball no breaking pitch and strikeouts, velocity and walks going in the wrong direction.
  3. I don't see much value in Sweeney as the 4th or 5th OF. If the team is going the AAAA route, at least Mastroianni or Benson might be able to swipe a bag as a pinch runner and both are likely more attractive options to go from 1st to 3rd or home. Sweeney has no speed or power, it's not like you'd ever want to call him off the bench.
  4. I fear most that Arcia's "attitude" is going to be a major factor in his future with this club. Frankly, I could care less if he's arrogant, abrasive or sulking, but I know the team has a history of caring. I get it, I don't like those kinds of co-workers. However I DO have those kinds of co-workers, most of us who work with more than a handful of people do. The rest of us have to suck it up and live with it. Neither Arcia's strikeouts nor lack of walks appeared to be a major issue in the minors, I would really like to find out if he can meet his potential, I still feel like he hasn't been giving a full shot. And his defense? So what, Torii Hunter proved last year that you can play RF at Target Field from a lawn chair, particularly if you have a decent CF standing next to you.
  5. Because minor league pitchers have to prove they can throw strikes consistently and minor league pitchers aren't as good at spotting their pitches. Why would any pitcher at the MLB level bother throwing Walker a hittable pitch?
  6. Minor league pitchers have a disadvantage for several reasons when facing a guy like Walker due to the fact that their ultimate goal is to make it to the MLB. 1) They generally aren't as skilled as MLB pitchers and aren't as good at locating pitches. 2) MLB teams tend to take most notice of the minor league BB and K figures, so they have incentives to throw within the zone. MLB pitchers ultimate goal is to get the batter out. As soon as they see that Walker will swing at pitches out of the zone that he cannot hit, that's the only kinds of pitches he will see. This kind of prospect and the problems associated with them is very common. If he can develop pitch recognition like Sano, his strikeouts wouldn't matter too much. That's his only hope.
  7. They were rewarded for their confidence in him with a 1.000% Fielding Percentage. That means he was perfect, unlike Byron Buxton who had a .944 fielding percentage as a CF in 2012. I mean this isn't even a contest anymore.
  8. I agree, I preferred to keep Garza due to him being a pitcher with high upside, but I wasn't upset, and quickly got excited about Young's huge potential. But also of note, while it's easy to say the Twins perhaps should have done more investigating to notice Young's red flags, perhaps they did. Let's not forget that the Twins already had concerns about Garza's attitude and his insistence on doing things his way. I personally didn't like the Twins approach to pitching back during that time, but it doesn't change the fact that both the Twins and the Rays might have considered the trade one of those "change of scenery" deals that might work out for all parties. Obviously it didn't, but that might have been the thinking. Garza too has had some, let's say un-PC issues. The Twins may have just guessed that Garza was more of a loose canon and guessed wrong, but not by much.
  9. I think we're missing the obvious answer here. Oswaldo Arcia played a bunch of CF back in the day and was outstanding in the Venezuela Winter Leagues in CF as recently as 2014. http://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.cgi?id=arcia-001osw
  10. Agreed. Had Young just called him a 'stupid piece of ****' it wouldn't be bigoted. He'd just be an ***hole. And last time Delmon got in trouble for this, he yelled '****ing Jew.' I'm guessing few wouldn't see that as a racial attack. I don't even feel comfortable typing it.
  11. Last time the judge made Delmon go to The Museum of Tolerance and speak to a Holocaust survivor. http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/delmon-young-pleads-guilty-violation-anti-semitic-bashing-article-1.1378013 Maybe this time they should have him take a boat ride to impoverished Cuba. And maybe the boat should leave him there.
  12. I agree, there is great concern about Duffey pitching over his head in 2015, but I'd give him a long rope to find out. What he did at the end of last year showed enough upside that I'd make doubly sure it was a fluke. We already know the best and worst we can expect from Nolasco, Milone and Hughes.
  13. I knew it, Leia wasn't really into Han, she just has a thing for pilots. Her brother included.
  14. Because he is younger AND he needs time to adjust. I see him as more likely a useful piece of a championship team, and I don't think you can adjust in AAA.
  15. I give Duffey a longer leash than Nolasco, Milone and/or Hughes if we find out this spring that Hughes' 90 MPH FB velocity from last year is now perminant.
  16. Vargas and Arcia can't go to AAA, they are out of options. All things being equal, no one would care about a minor league signing, the concern is the Twins will pin too much optimism on this aged longshot based on a handful of spring training games and sacrifice those two youngsters foolishly. Not that they will, but that is the concern.
  17. Baseball AND the NFL? I see Lewis Thorpe has been properly Americanized!
  18. Well if you had to turn it off when they graphically slaughtered the cow, you almost made it.
  19. I want Suzuki to get the exact minimum number of at bats it will take for another team to decide he's worth taking off of the Twins hands in July. And no offense to Suzuki, I just want to start the revolution now.
  20. The Park signing is pretty unique, he did get a 4-year-deal, but the $3M per year is basically money you pay a bench bat. If he falls flat, I really don't think the Twins would hesitate to eat $6M if there is a log jam for his spot and if he is that bad, I wouldn't think Arcia would get kicked to the curb, at least not because of Park. However I also don't want to lose Arcia if Park is good.
  21. I think Park does quite a bit better than folks expect, I'm excited about him and have never implied regret about him, quite the opposite. I think there is a ton of potential, I want him even if it's only because his swing looks like Jose Bautista. Sano is more valuable at 3B than RF in the real world and fantasy. Plouffe is a good defensive 3B but he's not great, the team isn't losing an elite defender. Plouffe is safe if average overall, there are multiple unsafe options with upside. I don't like safe, this team always does safe, let's try something else.
  22. However the Twins didn't have immediate replacements for Santana and Hardy, in this case they not only have a replacement but an upgrade in Sano. Besides, in this situation the return for Plouffe is only the auxiliary prize though, isn't the main prize playing time for Arcia, Kepler, Park, Polanco and/or Vargas?
  23. I like the Park signing, even if it is a huge gamble it's low risk. The money is minimal which means there will be much less resistance to cut him a year, maybe even two early if it comes to that. To me the only risk is as stated above, the possible loss of a guy like Arcia. But this scenario only came about once it became clear that despite what every baseball analyst thought after the Twins won the bid for Park, Plouffe could not be moved. I don't mean to disparage Plouffe, he's been a good Twins, he just doesn't look like a good offensive fit in for this team and is one of the most glaring spots to change without sacrificing potential, which is the attribute I value most at this point. I'll gladly give up depth in exchange for playing time for the young guys.
  24. Right, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that he'd be better offensively. I didn't say I thought he would, just that it's not as unlikely as we might suspect.
  25. That's a pretty low bar to set, especially considering that Sano is Plan A, Nunez/Polanco are merely Plan B. If Plan A is pretty strong, I'm not scrapping the whole operation just because Plan B isn't optimal. Odds are that Plan B never materializes anyway, this all just seems like the too usual risk-adverseness that clouds this club.
