  1. The Twins are 5-11, with a young lineup that isn't ready yet to legitimately win it all, and a rotation full of low ceiling veterans only one of whom has a history of being anything close to reliable and stable. What kind of team can afford to chose youth over depth if not the Twins?
  2. The season is young but it's interesting to see that Daniel Palka's K rate has remained the same despite the promotion. It's still high at 28% but that's what it was in High A, for comparison, Adam Walker was at 28% in High A and jumped to 34% upon his AA promotion. We'll have to see how the rest of the year plays out, but that's encouraging seeing as the strikeouts where his biggest bugaboo.
  3. Well when you construct your roster in a way that the best pitchers have to take a back seat to preserve depth, you kind of cancel out the positive benefit of the depth. Milone traded/DFA'd, Nolasco and Hughes to the pen, all three of Berrios, Duffey and Meyer up by June. It wouldn't be popular and it would never happen, but if this club ever cared about getting the most peak years out of their young arms, this is what they should be doing.
  4. Yesterday was Buxton's first multi-strikeout game since the White Sox series and only his second since game 1 at KC. I'd like to give him a couple more weeks, I think he's close.
  5. I just saw the Google logo is purple today. That can't be a coincidence.
  6. Yeah, he gets a lot of labels, often associated with being a pop star but he was one of the greatest guitarists ever. And he could play any instrument, and play it well. That Harrison tribute concert was fantastic all around. It would be cool to see something similar for Prince.
  7. I'd DFA Fien, though he has been a good Twin for several years now so I'm not to fond of the cavalier attitude about uprooting the guy. Buxton has only whiffed 5 times in his last 19 PA, he has improved in that regard since the opening two series, I'd keep him up for a bit longer. Every level he's been at, he's struggled out of the gate, but if he figures out the strikeouts, and he has been making much more contact, he's going to start getting on base. I don't want Milone and his 85 MPH heater in the pen. If he can't be traded, I'd consider releasing him. Chargois should be looked at in the pen before Milone does. Rogers too, time for the future! Berrios, yeah, obviously let's get him up. There isn't a starter I wouldn't demote/cut/trade/imprison in a secret CIA bunker to find a spot for him. Kepler is already back at Rochester. If the team isn't going to play his replacement, Polanco, then he should go to Rochester. But Polanco should be playing at the MLB level. Maybe even 2B. I would think the Twins would give Murphy a shot over Mastroianni. There seems little need for Mastro if Santana is back also.
  8. If I hear Dick/Bert try to justify keeping the current starters based on ERA, experience or competitiveness, my TV might get busted. If these vets don't produce top of the rotation stuff, the resentment of them blocking the prospects is going to get ugly. From me that is. I wouldn't want to speak for you folks.
  9. Awesome story!
  10. Ha, probably should have covered your ears to. If I knew girls did that to magazines in the lobby, I'd stay at hotels more often.
  11. Darling Nikki was on that album...
  12. Um.... Details!?!? And argh! I would suppose Prince's obsesive policing of his copyrighted material on the internet will prevent us from finding a clip.
  13. I'm sure it will be brought up in the Celebrity Death Pool thread, but I thought Prince deserved his own thread, he was one of our own and an icon. I can't believe it, I know he was sick last week, but damn, it's Prince.
  14. I have less faith in Hughes and his 90 MPH heater continuing to be a functional member of the rotation. His curve has always been subpar. A 90 MPH heater just isn't going to play well if he doesn't have a breaking pitch. I think Nolasco, Hughes and Santana will hard to move because of the unwise long term contracts given to them, but if I was able to pick one, I'd try to get rid of Hughes before he blows up.
  15. See what happens when you go with the pitch Dozier?!
  16. When my fingers got too fat for my iPhone.
  17. I hope pulling Milone in the 4th after only allowing one run is a sign that the team has already identified Berrios' path of least resistance.
  18. Nunez replaces both? Do we get to use ghost runners now?
  19. Family reunion of 105 in Mantiwok county?
  20. Ish. Young players get their butt chewed for that. I doubt Dozier gets more than a dirty look. Not complaining, just wondering what the tension in the dugout is like when the rookies are silently resentful that they'd get called out for not running out a grounder.
  21. I like Buxton, not his swing though. He'll never develop power with no leg kick or stride. He looks like a right handed Denard Span, and he should be much, much more. I have no clue what to think about Buxton until the team puts him in a more appropriate swing, which I would guess will occur at some point.
  22. Sanders' ideas for changing any kind of party system is hugely flawed though. An outsider is never going to be able to get the Senate, let alone the House, to do anything. Only an insider, who is viewed more moderately, would even be able to even approach this. Unless his end goal is to subversively greatly influence Clinton, his whole schtick is going nowhere, and if that was his plan, he probably shouldn't say anything negative about her now, and he is. Sanders has to know that A ) he can't win, and B ) if he were president, absolutely nothing would get accomplished and his presidency would only serve to throw the conservatives a life preserver when they are currently drowning. So I can't see how he isn't at least doing some damage to the party knowingly.
  23. To be fair, Sanders probably sees this exact strategy of "outsider naivety" working for Trump and is frustrated that it's backfiring on him.
  24. I'm pretty surprised that Dozier's approach appears to be the same as last year. I really thought after last year's second half we were going to see him going with the pitches and trying to go the other way more. He wasn't always this dead pull hitter, he only started doing this after his original demotion and the Twins and/or Dozier saw Josh Willingham finally figure out Target Field for everyone, that is grip-it-and-rip-it to left field. Almost immediately Dozier and Plouffe followed suit. In the minors, Dozier was a high OBP/low strikeout guy. I always assumed he still could revert back to that game if needed. It either appears he and/or the team has decided that it isn't yet needed, or he is no longer able.
