  1. Well Berardino said there was an unnamed "person with direct knowledge" who said there was mutual interest in bringing him back. In the very next paragraph he started quoting Michael Cuddyer. Just putting two and two together, there's probably a decent chance that Cuddyer is the "person with direct knowledge" considering his new role, while at the same time, I would also guess that Cuddyer probably only has a water-cooler-gossip grasp of what the actual off season game plan is.
  2. Got one right here for you: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/nathajo01.shtml
  3. That had(s) always been my position, but the assumption I am currently going to make is that the new leadership has a solid game plan for developing young pitching. Perhaps they don't but they're getting the benefit of the doubt from me since I long ago gave up on the idea that the old leadership had strong vision when it came to pitchers and I desperately wanted a change. Now that I got the change I'll give some slack before I start making judgments.
  4. Yeah, they should have taken the Cardinals picks and distributed the funds derived from the value of the picks among the additional 29 teams. Did the investigation find that the Astros suffered irreparable harm from the hacking?
  5. Also, this is a little bit of BS in the fact that the other 14 AL teams also get penalized in so far that the Astros gain two picks at the expense of a NL team. I wish the Twins got hacked and the other team caught....
  6. Hmmmm, the Cardinals gave up their 1st round pick to sign Dexter Fowler. Geez, if I didn't know any better I'd think they saw this coming.
  7. I would have been more interested in doing this with Geovany Soto. That ship has sailed though.
  8. I get it. I guess my point is that Mauer's decline likely had more to do with issues that are unlikely to be repeated, making Mauer not an ideal comp.
  9. For some reason, this post seemed to have gotten an inordinate amount of likes. I find it rather ordinary myself. These must be make-up 'likes'. I can play along too I guess.
  10. Seems like a bit of an odd response considering Mauer's defense behind the plate had nothing to do with his decline. He was a solidly above average catcher at worst. I'm also going to guess that 'Sonny' and Giants nation are going to be more worried about any possible decline with Posey's bat. On the other hand, predicting Posey will decline like Mauer kind of also would require a belief that he'd also have concussion issues.
  11. Yeah, getting drunk in the AM can impact your posts in unpredictable ways!
  12. So adorably WASPy! Look, the little one's getting a noogy because the older brothers are teasing him about not filing for bankruptcy protection this week. So cute!
  13. I like it, though there isn't a backup catcher that I see. I'd agree with lineup, the bench and the rotation, however do expect a free agent reliever to be added, even if he's unexciting. I'd also expect another lefty in the pen. So if the free agent is a lefty, my prediction would be Duffey and Haley fight it out for the seventh BP spot. If a free agent right hander is added, I'd predict both Duffey and Haley to lose their jobs. I'd guess Santiago and Mejia battle for the spot for the token lefty in the rotation with the loser taking on Boshers for the second lefty gig in the pen. And I predict Hughes wins the closer job.
  14. I'm not surprised, that's how it appeared except for a couple of RH outliers who were allowed to only take aim at the left field seats. I wouldn't want to make blanket assumptions though since I'm not in the know.
  15. Uh uh, you mean where his KIDS do business. He has absolutely, positively no business interests anymore and is completely objective and solely beholden to the best interests of our country now!
  16. Kirby Puckett was built like a catcher, Calvin Johnson was built like a defensive end and Bartolo Colon was built like a bowler. I don't think these things are always as predictable by body-type as we would like to think. So what if we have to be lucky, and so what if we have to consider other options 4 years from now? This team has more immediate issues to address and this front has offered the rare positive news this offseason.
  17. I agree, I also don't like using an assessment about character and work ethic of a 22-year-old and predict that it will continue. Who among us are the same person we were at that age? Shoot, ****Spoiler Warning**** for our younger members. The plot twist is that life is like that one David Lynch movie where the guy wakes up one day and is a completely different person for no explainable reason.
  18. I don't want him back in AAA but if the new front office believes Neil Allen's --**alleged**-- assessment that there was some kind of organizational negligence in pitching development, I could see lots of young pitchers repeating or going back a level to adjust to what the new guys want them to do. And frankly, if someone DOES happen to have an idea as to why so many of the pitchers are struggling, I'm more than willing to give them a shot to fix it, even if it's not the via the method I'd like; that is learning at the MLB level.
  19. I liked this one. I'm not saying the old crew did believe in a one-size-fits-all approach , but I guess Falvey thought it was important enough to address.
  20. It would be hard to convince me that the underlying reason May was moved to the bullpen was not because he was low man in seniority. I would listen to, but not agree with and likely not believe that he was moved simply because he had good velocity. But his arsenal has gone to waste in the pen. This is good news but shouldn't be surprising considering May has good velocity and four pitches which means he more than anyone else on the team looks like a Cleveland pitcher. If I were to guess about Falvey's philosophy based on the structure of Cleveland, I'd guess the rotation will be: Santana (by default even if he doesn't exactly match the mold) Gibson (with increased change and slider usage at great expense to his sinker) May Santiago/Mejia (Santiago will have a large advantage to win the spot but a super short leash) Berrios/Hughes (Berrios will have a large advantage to win the spot but super short leash) They'll want one lefty and one younger arm to groom to fill the last two spots. Just my guesses based on what I'd think Cleveland would do.
  21. I'd guess it would be Mejia over Duffey if they're going to bump Santiago. If only to keep a lefty in the rotation.
  22. I meant neither. I meant that despite your insistence that it is unlikely or impossible, Eduardo Nunez returned a value just about everyone here agreed was at least equal, if not more, than his value last summer. Why is it next to impossible for Dozier to do the same this summer?
  23. No, I'll let you handle the spin, since that's completely bastardizing the point.
  24. I get that I'm in the minority regarding De Leon, but that's hardly the point. People are arguing that there is slim to no chance Dozier could get better value later. People are trying to change the argument to a De Leon/Mejia comparison when in fact it has nothing to do with Dozier's value and only used to point out that trading Dozier later can still be done.
