  1. Is it strange that even with the big(ger) named gues made available, Luke Bard is the one I'd most bet on being chosen?
  2. There are going to be enough anti-DH voters and anti-1st balloters who won't be voting Thome in in year one. But overall I think the voters have turned over a bit and those anti-everyone voters are few and far between, I'd bet there is some collaboration between a lot of the voters, "I'll vote for Vlad and Mussina this year if you make sure to vote Thome and Vizquel in next year" kind of stuff.
  3. Pfft Brent Rooker will already have four seasons topping those numbers and three MVP awards before Diaz is ready!
  4. Don't you think they had much more MLB value though, with Kepler being able to play all three OF spots plus 1B and Polanco being able to play both MI spots?
  5. If I were to guess he's a top 10 prospect perhaps for the writers and perhaps not so much for the guys in charge. In baseball circles it seems 1B has become the lowest priority position recently. Right or wrong, even bullpen arms are more in demand these days. I can't see even a bad team like SD using two of their four bench spots on a backup catcher and a guy who can only play 1B.
  6. Seems to me when those free agent moves occur prior to the Rule 5 they never become official until after so the team can adjust accordingly.
  7. I keep Pressly, he was pretty good in the 2nd half and had been the teams best reliever the two years prior to last. I wouldn't protect Diaz, hardly any teams carry a bench bat that can solely play 1B let alone one who only put up modest numbers in A ball. I'd also guess that since the front office was already fine and dandy exposing Melotakis once, they'd have no problem doing it again. I'd guess the team keeps Boshers, though if they were to outright him that would be a great sign about their off season intentions. Hard to see the team only having Rogers and Moya as lefty BP arms.
  8. Same with me, though I should probably stop making blanket assumptions at least in regards to NBC sitcoms. Historically they've not only had some of my all time favorites, but they also haven't been afraid to go outside the box. I just started this show and it seems promising but working backwards, Community, Parks and Rec, The Office and Seinfeld were all more daring endeavors than networks typically take a chance on.
  9. But he's got the diva WR "argue with the officials on every play" part nailed! I love him and I'm stoked the Vikings found gold but he doesn't do the whole "aw shucks" Minnesota bit. Actually, I guess that's fine by me, I've grown tired of that mentality.
  10. TB QB Jameis Winston is now getting (back) in to the sexual assault game. His people are denying it. It sure does seem like the strategy has been set, if you're a creep in a Blue state you confess and apologize (often poorly), if you're in a Red state you deny, deny, deny.
  11. Franken can go. On his way out he needs to admit that he partook in "locker room" antics, tell his conservative detractors that he understands that anyone who does those things is not fit to lead our country and he's glad that this is a non-partisan issue and everyone is finally on board with ousting all loathsome individuals such as him who are guilty of such behavior. Everyone.
  12. That seems to be quite the wide array of players though. Gonsalves, Romero and Littel I'd love to get a chance to see. I might have interest in seeing if Jorge or Slegers can gain significant velocity in the pen to become useful. The other three I'm well past worrying about.
  13. I agree, these guys are all long shots and while it's worth the effort to bring minor league free agents in, it's rarely worth the anticipation (even if there is any). Kintzler and Guerrier did pretty well though. However, this team could still aim a bit higher in terms of ceiling with the MiLB free agent arms. Of the names listed above, only Turley had any history of missing bats, and that history was very short and very recent, and none of them had any history of + velocity. The guys listed in Fangraphs sound like they are a bit more intriguing, at least in terms of stuff.
  14. That link didn't work for me. Maybe this one's different: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/projecting-the-minor-league-free-agent-pitchers-2/
  15. Looking at the OF UZR leaderboard this past year there looks to be about three players 32 or over that are above average and only seven that are over 30. Meanwhile there are 19 OF with a negative UZR and 11 are over 30.
  16. Geez, still hard to get used to the idea that this team's GM isn't the guy running the show any longer. Apologies to Mr. Levine.
  17. I agree, however if the Twins new-found concerns are justified, they also wouldn't be doing him any favors by publicly going into grand detail about them. Hopefully the young man can still get a contract with another club. Perhaps whatever issues that were found can be remedied and he can re-enter the bidding process again next summer where a full slate of teams have their entire pools to dole out.
  18. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/general-managers-view-who-flies-below-the-radar/ I love it, Fangraphs asked ten GMs to name a player and a member of the baseball personnel who flew under the radar. To summarize Falvey's answer regarding the player- You kidding me? Only a schmuck would tell you who he thought was an under-valued asset.
  19. It seems odd that no one here has implicitly stated the obvious conspiracy theory involving the Twins and international bonus money. Just so we're clear, we have silently decided as a group not to not speak out loud the name of everyone's most hopeful holiday wish baseball player?
  20. Who is Fernandez? Jose? He has sadly passed away. 2018 looks like it's Kershaw or bust and planning on him to Minnesota sounds beyond rediculous. If Darvish truly is financially achievable and willing, he looks like the Twins best chance to buy a front line starter since the early 1990's when they could be had for a couple million.
  21. I think there are three really great AL teams in Houston, Cleveland and Boston. However the Twins and New York have a chance to join them. The Yankees probably need one more stud starter, which will be hard to do if they plan on staying under the payroll tax threshold. The Twins need two stud starters, more velocity in the pen and a couple of the bats have to reach maximum potential. That sounds like a lot but I think they can do it with the right moves and a hardy and open checkbook.
  22. Well I mostly just wanted an excuse to name drop Bradley who's near the top of my xmas list.
  23. I'd think that if you're thinking about trading away some top prospects you'd start by getting a feel for your most ideal targets first. I'd have to think top end starters would be the first place the team would want to use their equity. I'd be more interested in using surely some of the same required pieces to get Chris Archer. I'd be willing to do something painful to get him. And if on the off chance the Twins WERE thinking about turning Iglesias back into a starter, I'd hit up the Dbacks about Archie Bradley first.
  24. I'm redirecting the comments on this topic to the article posted: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/27983-article-twins-interested-in-reds-closer-raisel-iglesias/
  25. I'm interested but I'd rather attempt to blow the Rays away for Chris Archer first before using all the assets on a reliever.
