  1. I feel I should express again, if we pick the right poster(s) they very well may transition into what we hope they will, despite what they are now. I have no clue what kinds of crazy discussions you had prior to offering me the gig, but I absolutely would have been considered one of the negative Nancy’s. I think there are likely posters out there, who perhaps have question marks, who would be more than happy to change tone if they understand the fate of their favorite message board relies on them becoming more impartial.
  2. Eh, not a Romo fan but like the starting pitcher in A ball. Diaz had next to zero chance with this team with all the corner bats in AA and AAA.
  3. That seems more than I’d think the Astros would offer, but maybe not. It would be nice though if the Mets truly won’t deal with the Yankees or Braves in fear of looking bad by losing a trade. I’d normally think that rumor is all crap, but the Wilpons do seem pretty neurotic and baseball un-savvy
  4. I still like Blake in terms of both frequency and personality, but you guys are all much better at this stuff than I. I still struggle to put names to past infractions and incidents in the electronic world. Where Blake is concerned, his recent game thread contributions are what stand out most to me. However, I’d really prefer to defer to you guys. Though maybe I shouldn’t, knowing the misstep you made in your last mod selection.
  5. Latest reports are that the Mets are most interested in what the Padres and Braves can offer as they want MLB ready starting pitching, though not necessarily as the top piece. Might have been a good idea to not have used Thorpe last night so they could have found a start for him.
  6. You buried the lede, is the Manhattan ok?
  7. The Cubs pen is really bad. Collins was their 2nd lefty and they already cut bait with Brian Duensing. Holland is there to pitch. If the Twins made this move, they'd probably rightly be ridiculed. With so many other free agent relievers available for actual prospects, this kind of makes me think the Cubs might actually stand pat as I've seen others mention.
  8. I don't think it was widely reported, but I think it was generally assumed and his demeanor when on camera never construed to the fans that he wanted to be here, and it wasn't like he didn't know that being at the ballpark meant he could always be on camera. So, no damning evidence, but enough circumstantial evidence for me to pass.
  9. Ha, well my complete dis-interest in Diekman stems from the fact that I probably watched most if not all of those appearances. So I was relieved that it was the Dodgers, Phillies and Nationals tied to him, not my Twins. But now that you put it that way.....
  10. I didn't want Lynn when the Twins signed him last year because all he threw were fastballs, but since it was a one year deal I didn't much care. Since that signing he has mixed in his curve much more than he had in his prior seasons, and that does make him a little more attractive to me. But nowhere near attractive enough for me not to worry about a chemistry issue though. But every time the Twins sign a guy to a 3 year deal and trade discussions come up, many people here argue that you can't trade a guy you just signed to a multi year deal, it's bad optics and it might stain your reputation with future free agents. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but I'd bet Texas does not trade Lynn, particularly to a team he clearly wasn't happy playing for last year.
  11. That's not fair. There were plenty of draft busts that went after those guys that the Twins might have chosen instead.
  12. Yeah, without the sarcasm, that compensation formula seemed a bit flawed and it was based on the prior two years worth of performances. I can't find it any longer, but it had a bunch or random variables, I remember writing up something big and ugly about it long ago. Anyway, Teixeira and Santana would have without a doubt been the top two free agents the year prior to the draft and I recall the weighted formula had a very slight edge to Teixeira, however, the formula gave points to Gold Glove winners, something Santana got the year prior in the AL but had no chance of getting in the NL as it was an annual award given to Greg Maddox at that point. So it would have been close as to which player would have earned their former team the #25 pick had Santana stayed in the AL with the Twins. But who knows, maybe Santana blows out his knee and doesn't even get offered arbitration let alone net a comp pick if he stayed. But the fact that the formula favored Francisco Rodriguez and Orlando Hudson over both of those two should have been a red flag that the system was not great.
  13. Dang, just missed 'em.
  14. You only say that because back then the comp picks were weighted on a complicated performance model and the Twins would have likely gotten either pick #25 or #26 in the 2009 draft. But does anyone actually remember the guy who went #26 in the 2009 draft? Probably was a nobody.
  15. I'd sweeten the pot on the prospects at the back end of the deal if the Twins can include Kirilloff instead of Lewis on a deal like this. Let's put all the corner bats in a bucket, Kirilloff, Larnich, Rooker, Raley, Wiel, Blankenhorn and Davis. What are the odds that Kirilloff will actually turn out to be the best of that bunch? 25% tops? The odds are probably even less than that. And it's not like Kepler, Rosario, Sano, Cruz and Cron are giving them much room this year or next.
  16. And the Twins wanted Clay Buchholz over Jon Lester. Though to be fair, most people at the time saw Buchholz as the better prospect. I remember Twins fans talking Dodgers, but I never do remember the Dodgers actually talking about Santana. Maybe they were, but I think everyone was just going through the prospects of the leagues biggest spenders.
  17. I heard they were talking about extending Wheeler, I kind of think that's a bluff to drive up his trade value though. I don't know why they'd rather have Wheeler than Syndergaard though, even with the prospect return. Wheeler is three years older, also has injury history, and will cost a boatload more to extend.
  18. The thought that came into my head the other day was that the Mets have a really strong young offensive core, a strong bullpen and two front of the rotation type arms, why would they sell when they should be contenders next year? Now the thought that comes into my head is, I bet Syndergaard wants out of that flea circus and has said so behind the scenes.
  19. Sounds like the Mets owners may veto a Syndergaard trade if the GM presents them with a return they deem insufficient. Which, yeah, sounds about as backwards as expected with this bizarre hire.
  20. Well there have still been 3 HR and it’s the middle of the 3rd.
  21. Ha, yeah that one says the Mets should sell him at a “discount” which in his mind would be similar to the four prospect package (which included top prospects Frazier and Sheffield) Cleveland gave up for Andrew Miller PLUS another top 30 prospect. I’d normally presume the author meant organizational top 30, but with a New York publication, it’s quite possible he meant league top 30.
  22. Yeah but the Giants won 3 World Series the last of which was with an 88 win team and now franchise icons Bumgarner and Bochey are performing their swan song. They’ve got enough track record, history and emotion to buy in right now. Forgive me if I’m wrong, but weren’t you one of the fans unhappy with last year’s Twins sell off?
  23. Cave still has options so there’s no need to DFA him unless it’s out of spite.
  24. I’ll give you the injury history, but his four seamer has been sitting 98-99 MPH all season. The guy has five pitches in his bag, I like those guys to be able to adjust repertoire and approach when needed. And if there’s one thing the organization should get congratulated on when it comes to pitching, and it might actually just be one thing, they have been keeping them healthy.
