  1. I'd be more open to giving 2nd chances and rolling the dice if the team wasn't in 1st place. I don't feel compelled to cross my fingers that the team can wring more value from the contract. If they were in the tank and I thought even at a long shot Reed could regain a bit of trade value come July 31, then I might say let's see what he's got.
  2. If it all correlates, then the same direct line that runs through the proper amount of rest and his effectiveness should also run through what is a velocity that is capable of success, which when he was rested last year appears to be 92 MPH. Since rest is pretty arbitrary and his effectiveness can't be determined until after the fact, shouldn't we just determine if we want to go forward with him based on his velocity which has already shown to be an effective gauge of his success?
  3. He was good in the past, but that just emphasizes that he's getting older. Seeing as his early season games last year coincided with his just barely acceptable FB velocity and his statistical decline coincided with his velocity drop, I don't think we should evaluate him on his track record from 2012-17 so much as his velocity. From my view, if he's not back up to at least 92 MPH on the four seamer, the track record indicates he's going to get shelled.
  4. Cave goes first, then my money is on the team trying to get Morin back through waivers and accepting a Rochester assignment. The Twins haven't had much issue getting relievers through waivers lately. I'd bet Adrianza won't be on the chopping block unless the rest of the roster stays healthy when they have to make a decision on Mejia, but they still might choose to cut ties with Mejia over Adrianza seeing as Mejia hasn't been too helpful this year and the team is leading the division. I don't think Reed suits up for the Twins again unless his return to health coincides with multiple injuries on the 25-man.
  5. I wouldn't want to lay it all on Gardy or anyone else, and I also wouldn't necessarily label it defeatist only because I can't say what those guys were feeling exactly, but whatever it was, there was a bad aura around the club that EVERYONE felt, fans and players.
  6. I feel a lot better about playing the Yankees and any of the other teams the Twins have laid down for in recent history now that the people running the show both on and off the field have basically no ties to the prior leaders. I'm a stats guy so this is going against the grain for me, but I always felt the Twins history of losing to the Yankees was only due to 30% having inferior talent and 70% having an inferior attitude. Oh, I guess that was a stat after all.
  7. I don’t mind keeping Castro, my problem is how many starts he’s getting.
  8. While that's not good, the team has a .127 point OPS differential at home vs on the road. No one likes hitting in the cold.
  9. I can't wait to get Magill back in the MLB bullpen. I never expected I'd type that sentence.
  10. Also funny, Brooks Baseball is calling Harper's less loopy curveball a slider. It must move a bit more horizontally: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/outcome.php?player=607560&b_hand=-1&gFilt=&pFilt=FA|SI|FC|CU|SL|CS|KN|CH|FS|SB&time=month&startDate=03/30/2007&endDate=04/23/2019&s_type=2 74 MPH sliders are still curveballs in my book.
  11. He's got a long way to go to scrub the memories of the last curveball-only reliever from my mind. Speaking of which, I don't think it's a great idea for this team to carry both Harper and Duffey.
  12. Not sure I like the idea of slotting him right into the lead off spot; we’ve seen him get too inside of his own head before. I think I’d like a 1-2 of Polanco and Buxton though. I have no problem making the change incremental though and slotting him in at the sixth spot in the immediate future.
  13. Great submission to TD by the way. I hope it goes without saying that criticisms found in the comment section aren't aimed at the interviewer.
  14. Which does bring up an interesting angle; the nearby restaurants and bars surely want the stadium to keep their prices high. While the Twins do offer some interesting options, most of it isn't exactly high cuisine stuff. It's not like you can't get a better qualify burger, sandwich or beer at two dozen places within three blocks of the stadium. So surely the Twins are only marking prices up to help promote the local businesses. Which one is the eye-roll emoji again?
  15. It was for their brand new stadium too. Just opened and they dropped food and beverages across the board. The must be doing OK, they are lowering the prices again for the upcoming season, hot dogs are only a buck fifty now: https://mercedesbenzstadium.com/mercedes-benz-stadium-cuts-food-prices-second-time/ I'd be nice if someone would ask St Peter about that.
  16. Well if they're not paid $15 an hour, how could they afford to eat one of the hot dogs marked up 800% that their selling? Scratch that, a $15 an hour job ain't going to afford them the money to attend a game. This was the first opening day since I was legal drinking age that I didn't have a beer. I'm not waiting in line for ten minutes for a Bud Light and I'm repulsed by the prices of decent beer. Thankfully Berrios was great and got us out of the stadium in under 3 hours so as I could pay Fulton a more reasonable price for better quality beer afterwards. As much as it might surprise St. Peter, I don't go to baseball games for the restaurants and concessions.
  17. Alcala is looking good, at least as far as numbers go. He hasn't finished 6 innings yet, but he also hasn't thrown more than 90 pitches in an outing and he's only issued three walks in four starts. His strike percentage last year was only 59% but so far is 62% this year. That's pretty close to league average at the MLB level. Keep it up Jorge.
  18. Nick Vincent signed a MiLB deal, had the Twins been interested in him they could have easily had him a month ago. Sam Dyson doesn't historically miss many bats, that doesn't sound like a pitcher on this new-era Twins. If the Giants aren't moving Will Smith now, I don't see much of a fit at the moment.
  19. I was hoping to hear more about why he wasn't extended this off season. Kepler and Polanco were while we heard enough to know that there were discussions with Berrios and Gibson. What about Rosario? I'd assume there was at least a conversation, but if that was made public I missed it.
  20. The Nationals deal with Norris fell through because they feel he's at least a month away from contributing. I'd pass on Johnson, he can't strike anyone out.
  21. I'm with you on May. I'm a fan of Rogers and Parker has looked better from his first couple of shakey outings but the jury is still out. Hildenberger? Maybe, I'm still on the fence after last year. But even if all four of those guys are good to great, there's always room for bullpen improvement, ask the A's last year.
  22. I wouldn't want to give up on Vasquez already, but even with all the strikeouts, the guy still was only throwing 90 MPH last year when he was up with the Twins. If that's what we are to expect from his velocity, I'm not going to expect great results from him at the MLB level. With Perez going to the rotation I think Stewart or Romero should be added to the pen, they'll need multi inning guys. Or they could skip AAA and get Cody Stashak from AA. One of my personal favorites and a guy who typically goes multiple innings. I don't think he's in AA because he needed remedial work, I'd guess it was because there were just too many options for Rochester and he didn't have seniority. Also, Kimbrel.
  23. Not at all, those young men can have at their video games. Seth said "I'm sure you recall", which I assumed was tongue in cheek because I would absolutely not recall considering my total lack of interest in e-sports.
