  1. I'd actually be more concerned with if he actually doesn't want to be here than I would be about the 6th or 7th year.
  2. I doubt he'd have come here if the Twins doubled the Mets offer.
  3. Mauer wasn’t a free agent. No one’s throwing, or asking for a pity party for Minnesota.
  4. If he picks the Yankees despite a higher offer from the Twins or Cardinals, the highest bid wouldn't win. Just as the Yankees got Judge despite reportedly not having the highest bid.
  5. Yeah, interesting. It could be Team Four, who the player used to play for, but has already dropped out of the bidding. Team Four would theoretically have a vested interest in making sure Team One or Team Two spends as much money as possible on the player because Team Four wants to make sure they can't outbid them on another client the agent has.
  6. Is it ****possible**** that the Twins have repeatedly allowed themselves to be used by Boras as a threatening weapon to boost his clients' interests because both the Twins and Correa/Boras have already come to the understanding that Correa will be coming back to Minnesota? Because if they are being used unwillingly for his clients who have zero intention of coming here, they really need to call it out publicly. If he's not going to scratch their back, they need to stop scratching his.
  7. Maybe it will be more of the Ricky Nolasco attitude. Either way, it's complete crap that the Yankees have all the money, yet likely don't have to spend nearly as much as the other teams to get certain players because those players will take a discount to play for them.
  8. They just traded for a SS who can barely hit, I don't want one that can't hit at all.
  9. While this is almost certainly the case, it didn't need leaking as Boras himself has already provided the PR hype for the Twins by saying "Minnesota is the Land of 10,000 Lakes and right now they're fishing in the ocean". Which is so corny it turns my stomach, but is directly from the horse's mouth.
  10. I don't see the Yankees giving away a top prospect just to stay under the luxury tax threshold. I also don't like the idea of bringing back former Twins. I get Donaldson and Hicks are in this deal to eat salary, but why Rortvedt too?
  11. I think that starts with naming your stadium after an alcohol purveyor instead of a department store.
  12. Doesn’t interest me. Kyle Farmer isn’t popular around here, but that’s only because we all wanted better shortstops and were frightened that this was the best we’d get. Offensively, these are the same two players. I don’t need to trade for another one.
  13. I don’t think you need a rumor, Kepler is the definition of a movable asset. A vet who’s blocking prospects on an expiring contract that’s not cheap, but also not a hinderance for the acquiring team. He might stay, but the dots connect themselves as far as a possible trade goes.
  14. You got me! I only saw the briefly revealed article too.
  15. It was driving me crazy wondering how our Arraez die-hards were going to react. Ted was also cited in MLBTR’s Vazquez news. He might have had both articles ready to roll and submitted the wrong one by mistake.
  16. Yeah, my guess was wrong. Did Atlanta just trade away a bunch of players AND the best catcher in the whole sloppy situation? I'd sure rather have the guy who's 24, controlled for five more years and just came off an +.800 OPS season.
  17. I liked the last trade quite a bit. I was just spitballing in the other thread, but if Clark Schmidt is no longer being considered a starter by the Yankees, maybe he'd be available. Maybe the Twins add in another not-too-exciting piece if Schmidt still has prospect hype.
  18. From the article, AZ was asking for too much for their OFs. I’d be happy to swoop in and accept a more reasonable offer.
  19. Why would they talk OF for OF? What about reliever Clark Schmidt? Or is he still earmarked for a Yankee rotation spot at some point?
  20. So weird to give up what's surely going to be a ton of equity for a guy who might be the third best catcher on your roster. They must be pretty confident they can flip one of the others for an even better return? Edit: Ok that didn't last long. Three team trade I guess. Contreras to the Brewers. Nothing else being reported yet. Between Oakland, Atlanta and Milwaukee, seems like Milwaukee is the club that's most likely to get fleeced though.
  21. I'd do it for the prospects, but trading prospects for salary relief doesn't sound like a thing the Yankees would do. Sounds like something San Diego will do in a couple of years when the bubble bursts, but not the Yankees.
  22. I can't say I tend to associate 'catcher' with 'exciting product'. Shortstops on the other hand.....
  23. Plus, he needed Bogaerts off the table to squeeze more money out of the Correa bidders.
  24. Besides Rondon and Bassitt, I don't think there are starters out there that warrant a rotation spot ahead of what's already on the roster. Manaea was the ONE guy I could see adding to that mix, but he's old enough now that I think the chance of hitting his upside is about worn off; the most likely outcome is that he's a back of the rotation arm. Plus, with Walker and Taillon getting obscene contracts, this kind of smells like Manaea may have preferred to go back to the Bay Area instead of taking a better contract elsewhere.
  25. I think everyone is missing the sneaky secret angle here. If Correa is good enough, enough people will move to Minnesota just to watch him play in person, which will end up making Minnesota one of the major markets. Luxury tax threshold, here we come! Start investing in Twin City real estate, they U-Hauls are on their way.
