    Well I'll be. And traded before he ever even played a minor league game with the Dodgers. The Dodgers should fire Friedman. It'd be for the best, surely.

    Yeah, most of the people who won't cast any votes, or minimal votes won't release their ballots. Still, my presumption that Mauer would be waiting a few years and his percentage would anger Twins fans looks to be way off the mark.

    Can you clarify Ramon (?Roman?) Barinas past? You said he had a hand in getting Diego Cartaya which tracks as they were both with the Dodgers, but how did he play a part in getting Yordan Alvarez to the Astros? I can't find much on this man, but his Linked In page indicates he's been with LA since 2011, unless he left for a spell and came back. Mostly curious because Alvarez is Cuban, and the Twins never dabble in that market, as much as us fans my wish they would. Sorry, also looking forward to seeing these future Twins suit up and climb the prospect lists.

    Yes, I failed to elaborate on my concern about Hall looking like a HS kid trying to compete with pros. It wasn't that the GM drafted the wrong guy it was that other coaches have been able to coax a competent showing from similar if not worse QBs. I was tossing that one on the coach. The terrible roster, particularly the defense I'm putting squarely on the GM.

    I'm not ripping them for Hall being a bust, just that the two UDFA rookies could go in there and semi-competently finish a game. I don't think that's luck, I think they were better prepared. Those two will likely never see the field again, it's not like the Giants and Bears found diamonds in the rough. Aiden O'Connell and DTR haven't looked great, but they haven't looked completely confused either. Last year late round picks Bailey Zappe, Sam Howell, Skyler Thompson and of course Purdy all started games and none of them looked as ill equipped to play as Hall. The only rookie QB to start games from the last two years who looked as lost as Hall, was Malik Willis. And sorry, I'm not giving Adofo-Mensah credit for drafting Pace. His third through sixth picks never see the field except on special teams. If I'm going to credit him for knowing that Pace would be a contributor than I have to fault him for thinking the same of the other busts. But mostly, Pace was one of the most high profile and most sought after UDFAs, he wasn't a secret that the GM cleverly outfoxed the league on. Pace coming to MN was most influenced by him knowing the LB group was so awful here, that it was his best shot at landing a full time job. Kwesi has got to defer to someone else for drafting defensive players. Or if he already does, he needs new guys doing that job.

    Bad history of success for sure. But even excluding Purdy from the discussion, how were undrafted Tommy DeVito and Tyson Bagent more prepared to play than Hall? Bagent played DII ball for Pete's sake. Coaching or evaluation? Both? Not good.

    I was interested in Hendon Hooker in round 3. But after Dorian Thompson Robinson went off the board in round 5, there was nobody left that I cared to roster even on a crapshoot. I don't think Hall was even projected to get drafted.

    George got a raw deal. Super talented and from the sounds of it an extremely generous guy who didn't want publicity for his charity. Crazy how terrible we were back then that he couldn't just be himself back without ridicule and awful jokes.

    Yeah, this was amongst a great run of 80's stalker songs! Unlike The Police, who's song was supposed to be stalker-y but mistaken for romantic, I'm pretty sure this one was the other way around. At least the video was.

    Yeah, so I think the errant throw is probably burying the led here. He had 15 yards of clear running on that play. After Cousins went down, they started winning because Dobbs was running around like my kids after eating birthday cake. I know that's not a viable long-term plan, but when you don't have any capable QBs why not do what was working when the occasions pop up to your advantage?

    Much like the A's, both the Giants and Padres and their spacious ballparks tend to get the best out of pitchers. Considering he hasn't been good since the first half of 2021, I'd have no interest. Note, he was also terrible in the second half of 2021 which is why the A's were only able to get non-prospects for him.

    Blyleven was forced but mostly later in his career. When he first got the job, he felt genuinely organic and had an extremely unique personality. To me, late stage Blyleven was much as you described Smoltz. Often grouchy, less invested and with plenty of undertones of resentment.

    I like the pairing and I especially like Provus, but I think his partner shouldn't be locked in long term. I like Morneau, and he does a fine job, but he doesn't have the dynamic personality that a (pre-curmudgeon) Blyleven or Kaat had. In their prime, those two were pleasantly boisterous, while Morneau is very staid in his demeanor; basically your standard Upper Midwest (and Canada I guess) caricature. We get enough of that around here, we could use some counter-culture adventure in the booth.

    I don't want Cabrera due to his control issues, and I doubt the Twins do either, but Festa has his own control issues and actually has a worse walk profile in the minors than Cabrera did. I'm not going to give him away, but I'm very open to using Festa as part of a package to get a top of the line starter. Like, he's the first of the top prospects that I offer up.

    I'd be fine with that, but I don't think most teams would be looking to take on their combined 20M salary next year. One or the other, but probably not both.

    I wouldn't look to trade Kepler by himself; I want to maximize the return. If they want Kepler and the Twins offered good prospects in addition, they might be able to get one of the starters.

    I don’t think they switch QBs at halftime if they weren’t desperately trying to win. Which was both impossible and pointless. And any coach who ‘gave the people what they want’ out of spite needs to be fired on the spot. In either case, most fans still wanted the win. Everyone else watching at my house last night did. The fans like me and a few others here who are begging for the long term vision over the immediate wins are still the minority.

    I tend to agree. The personnel on defense is really awful. There was probably some smoke and mirror success for a spell there, but this is a really terrible group. And this is probably the worst group of corners we’ve ever seen, yet somehow we’ve complained less about corner play than we have in a decade. They’re definitely not doing their jobs, yet they aren’t getting picked on every single play. If anything Flores has found a way to band aid that issue in a way Zimmer never could.

    Having to rely on two players to fill the need of one is quite inefficient in terms of roster construction.

    Yeah, would have been easier with the picks they could have gotten from Cousins and Hunter and maybe Smith. Or maybe not since complaining about Kwesi's drafts have been pretty much all I've had to contribute today.

    I noticed the DBs blitzing regularly, but it was really obvious who was rushing. I mean you could see Matellus coming from a mile away.

    Half of the Vikings draft picks over the last two years were on the defensive side of the ball. Only one of them starts, and he's awful. I don't think Adolfo-Mensah would be able to spot a good defensive player if Lawrence Taylor punched him in the nose.

    Yeah, I'm not sure either, though during that good stretch, I think we all kind of forgot about the fact that there's barely any competent players on the defensive side of the ball. And the only one who is for sure competent, is about to leave in free agency. Adofo-Mensah's best defensive addition has been an UDFA line backer. Someone else needs to take over the defensive evaluations for the draft.

    Dallas' post season ineptness is always a nice consolation prize to me, a Vikings fan.

    Yeah, they shouldn't NEED more right handed bats, this perception is all based on the team's penchant for pinch hitting for the young players last year. If they'll give the young guys the opportunity to hit against same-sided pitching, they could easily search for the best bats, not the best right handed bats.
