  1. Having to rely on two players to fill the need of one is quite inefficient in terms of roster construction.
  2. Yeah, would have been easier with the picks they could have gotten from Cousins and Hunter and maybe Smith. Or maybe not since complaining about Kwesi's drafts have been pretty much all I've had to contribute today.
  3. I noticed the DBs blitzing regularly, but it was really obvious who was rushing. I mean you could see Matellus coming from a mile away.
  4. Half of the Vikings draft picks over the last two years were on the defensive side of the ball. Only one of them starts, and he's awful. I don't think Adolfo-Mensah would be able to spot a good defensive player if Lawrence Taylor punched him in the nose.
  5. Yeah, I'm not sure either, though during that good stretch, I think we all kind of forgot about the fact that there's barely any competent players on the defensive side of the ball. And the only one who is for sure competent, is about to leave in free agency. Adofo-Mensah's best defensive addition has been an UDFA line backer. Someone else needs to take over the defensive evaluations for the draft.
  6. Dallas' post season ineptness is always a nice consolation prize to me, a Vikings fan.
  7. Yeah, they shouldn't NEED more right handed bats, this perception is all based on the team's penchant for pinch hitting for the young players last year. If they'll give the young guys the opportunity to hit against same-sided pitching, they could easily search for the best bats, not the best right handed bats.
  8. If Kepler actually said he didn't want to play CF anymore, it could only mean he doesn't think he can cut it and it would be a negative mark on his resume. If you thought you were capable, volunteering for the gig would only improve your job security and future earnings.
  9. Foles and Flacco won a Super Bowl with elite defenses, or better put, the elite defenses won the Super Bowl with those QBs. Same would be the case if Purdy was able to get out of his own way. Getting one elite QB should be easier than getting 11 elite defenders. Everyone makes it out to like it's such a hard thing to do, but there are about 7-8 or so QBs in the league that seem capable of repeatedly carrying their teams through the playoffs. That's 20-25% of the teams. This team has had such a QB maybe four times in it's history, and not one who was here and consistently effective since Fran Tarkenton. They need to stop with the short-term band-aid approach to the position. This team hasn't had back-to-back seasons with double digit wins in 15 years, which was the last time this team was considered a legit contender by people outside of the immediate fanbase. Getting an elite QB tends to solve that issue. Can't we at least try? Other franchises wouldn't have been scared off by drafting a dud in Christian Ponder a dozen years later.
  10. I have a hard time seeing the MLBPA agreeing to a window for free agency. It would be fun to have a crazy period like the NFL has though. I think the draft a half of year early would be tough, and I have to think the teams that spend the most money on scouts and evaluations will have a much bigger advantage. Maybe if they do it four months later and soon after the World Series? That might work. Of course then none of those players would be going right from college/HS games to pro games that same summer, but many don't anyway. But maybe that opens up another opportunity for some kind of winter league. What if there was a separate month long league for just the prior years' draft picks? January perhaps? That would be more fun to follow than the AFL which is loaded with tons of players who no longer have much hype or hope of long MLB careers. Maybe even broadcast the games on MLB Network? It's not like they have anything better to show this time of year. You could then hype the draft a bit more and for those interested, actually see the guys play in some kind of month long tournament prior to spring training instead of waiting four, five years to see these guys play.
  11. Since he has an option, I'm not concerned with this move at all. And I'm not concerned with the 40-man since there are still several players on it that I have little issue moving on from. This guy's utter lack of control is what puzzles me. This team has really seemed to focus on limiting walks the last couple of years and Stautman looks like a poor fit. He's basically getting paid the league minimum though, I wouldn't be surprised if his innings pitched at the MLB level this year is under 15. This kind of feels like a glorified MiLB deal with a spring training invite. Basically no different than claiming Oliver Ortega off waivers last winter.
  12. I don't care for the way France is trending, but why is Seattle trading offense? That's what they are desperate for. Are we presuming Mitch Garver was signed to take his job? Because Garver played 1 inning at 1B last year, I think it's more likely that Garver is the Mariners DH this year.
  13. Yeah, the end of 2009 sucked. It was also the last time this team had a legit shot at winning the Super Bowl. As for last year, yeah, they couldn't get past the worst team in the playoffs. They still would have had to go through the 49ers, Eagles and Chiefs.
  14. Kirk Cousins is a very good QB, top ten for sure, but he doesn't improvise. He does exactly what the play calls for or goes to the assigned audibles and check downs, but he does not go off script. Won't or can't, either way, that's what you need. You're not running the table in the playoffs without a QB who will take charge and do the things that need to be done that the coaches have not anticipated. Mahomes and Rodgers would NEVER repeatedly be standing outside the huddle covering their ear holes because the OC or HC can't get their crap together, they'd go to the huddle, or even avoid the huddle all together and design their own play at the line of scrimmage. When a play breaks down, he's unable to say 'screw this, I'll do it myself' and scramble like Jackson, Allen or Hurts. Or even like Herbet and Burrow. The final play against the Giants last year isn't a final indictment on the guy, but it perfectly encapsulates why he can't win it all. The top QBs would have either completely disregarded that terrible play call, audibled everyone to run better routes, or scrambled out of the pocket and made the LB decide to either continue to cover Hockenson or to come up and tackle the QB. Sorry, he's really, really good, but to win it all, they need a maverick, not a boy scout behind center.
  15. I want to win a Super Bowl though, and a team with a 36-year-old Cousins has next to no chance to win one unless they have an elite defense. This team doesn't have one of those and even the smoke-and-mirrors going on right now evaporates if Flores goes. Paying Cousins and Jefferson probably eliminates any shot at buying an all time elite defense . So I'd rather start over if that's what's required.
  16. Disagree. They weren't an automatic contender in 2022 when they won 13 games and had Cousins and Jefferson.
  17. I think JJ is worth more than a first round pick. I don't think the Vikings should have to throw in another first on top of him. Still, no. Probably.
  18. Well the Vikings probably can’t pay Jefferson and Darrisaw or Hunter and pay Cousins. So I don’t see how that team would be any more competitive.
  19. I think he slots behind Ober and Ryan too. His numbers away from the Oakland Colosseum are #5 starter quality.
  20. One in 23 years. If the Twins only ever have a 1-in-23 chance to win a World Series, even now, than they should abandon all on field attempts to compete and aim their focus on obliterating the billionaires who own all the big market teams. Rally the small and mid markets and kick the Dodgers and Yankees out of the league unless there’s 100% revenue sharing. If all hope is lost for this team other than a lotto ticket, there’s no reason to theorize on a path forward. Which is what most of us are doing.
  21. Call me a buzzkill, but I don't count a starting pitcher with a mind-boggling low K rate of 16.7% either exciting or high ceiling. The Reds can keep their Dallas Keuchel clone.
  22. I dislike the reunion stuff. but a MiLB deal I don't much care about. However, who's spot is he taking in St. Paul? Miranda, Lee, Severino, Martin, Prato, Kiersey, Camargo, Larnach and Williams should all have a full time gig over Goodrum. That's nine players, which as far as my baseball knowledge goes, is every spot in the lineup. Larnach is probably the only one with a legit shot to break camp with the big league club.
  23. They've been trading for guys with only two years of control too often in my book, but then they went and extended Lopez, which off set that. No way they are able to extend Burnes though. Still, The Twins just had their best rotation in ages last year, and it included ONE homegrown player. This club has shown the ability and willingness to find good rotation pieces via trade for over a half decade now. Prielipp is so far away from the majors, losing him doesn't scare me. I'd like to see Festa, but I suspect whether he ends up being better than Joe Ryan is less than 25% and better than Varland is less than 50%. These aren't bets that would keep me up at night. All that said, I'm with a few others who suggest the Brewers may not have interest in Polanco. They look like they are quietly tearing this thing down. They might want ALL prospects for Burnes, which I'd pass on.
  24. The Twins certainly WEREN'T shy about strikeouts, but I'm going to hold judgement about whether they still are until after we see what new offensive additions are brought in this year. If nothing else positive can be said about this front office, they are more than willing to adapt from what went awry the season prior. Considering there's been next to no mention of a reunion with Michael Taylor, I suspect they are at least looking to keep the strikeouts in check next year. I'm setting my mental barometer to a 25% K rate. If new additions are all under that mark, I'll presume they are making an attempt to fix the problem. If they bring in a JD Martinez or Teoscar Hernandez, yeah, then they're doubling down on the strikeout method again.
  25. *****Moderator Note***** Let's refrain from using unfounded and presumptuous unflattering personal indictments of the player.
