    I could be talked into a six man rotation to shorten the innings workload of the young arms, but only if Rich Hill AND BALDELLI understand that his seniority buys him absolutely nothing. But if that's the path, is a rusty Rich Hill really any better of an option than Randy Dobnak, whom I also have no interest in?

    Great. It really wasn't going to bother me if Darnold started most of the year, but now McCarthy won't get any reps and everyone will be putting up question marks about him next year.

    If we're talking a 6 man rotation, then fine, they can add Hill over Varland. But I don't have interest if the goal is simply to nail down a playoff spot just to be happy to be invited as an underdog. That plan hasn't worked for this franchise in 40 years. The goal needs to be to roster the highest upside players so this team is one of the favorites should they get to the post season. I'll take aiming for the top with the downside of missing the playoffs over accepting a no-chance-in-hell early round exit.

    If the goal is to win a championship, it's too late in the year to bench potential for safety. This is an April move, not a mid August move. The team made their bed in the offseason, it's time to lie in it.

    My question with these takes is why would you assume Rich Hill will be better than what's currently available? Just because he's a veteran? Here's how I see it. Do I want Hill (or Paddock) starting on the mound in an elimination game in the playoffs? Hell no. Do I want Matthews or Festa on the mound? Probably not. But at least there's a probably in there. They have a month and a half to change my mind; if you stick them in AAA and go with Hill, that option is off the table.

    Seems the Twins let Correa and Lewis both heal, or at least rest for the stretch run last year and then they played gimpy, but well in the post season. Two months this year instead of a half month last year seems like a bigger bridge to cross though. As for the Rosario vs. Castro angle, I really have no clue about Rosario's defense these days, but it sure seemed like LA and TB tried to avoid putting him at SS.

    Same, I just looked at Beltre's BBR page, wow. Is he going to escape the DSL in only one year? Love the hitting and the power, but that 15% BB% for a 17-year-old might be the most encouraging thing.

    I'm a Varland-to-the-pen guy, but I'm kind of curious to see if the hot starts by the other young pitchers can push him to another level.

    If further disaster strikes, I'd start off with using Morris as rookies that don't hand out a ton of free passes tend to avoid blowups more often than those who do. But really, the team would be (?is?) in trouble, so the best bet might be to cycle through the options to keep the opponents on their toes and not getting the book out on the inexperienced guys.

    I agree, that we should only hope, not expect Matthews would pitch well going forward. But he's still a significantly better bet not to have a 7 ERA than a 44-year-old who hasn't pitched in a year, and hasn't pitched well in two years.

    There's a month and a half of the season left. It's too late to sacrifice putting your best 26-man-roster together for a safety blanket. Win as many games now and deal with an injury if it happens later. I mean, if we're talking about a MiLB contract and Hill goes to St. Paul, heck yeah, sounds like a good idea. But Hill on the 26-man and Festa/Matthews in St. Paul? No way.

    Festa's last four starts are better than any four start stretch Rich Hill has had in four years. I'm under no illusion that Festa's recent run is an omen for stardom, but the odds that a 44-year-old who hasn't pitched in a year and can no longer strike anyone out will put this team in a better position seems extremely unlikely.

    Did it end up at a thrift store? Pretty sure that's where the Pohlad's get the team apparel.

    He doesn't need to sweat it, Gladden just credited Matthews with giving up the HR to Perez. Okert's off the hook.

    Poor timing on that one. sounds like we got playoff Kep instead. To be fair, I'm only listening to Gladden, maybe it was a double in any case?

    Sure. Lewis, Wallner, Miranda, Larnach and Castro are all worse than Kepler. Cut the cord on the sentimentality, it leads to treading water, not progress. Longevity does not equal superiority.

    Agreed, he's throwing low 90s and doesn't miss bats, I figured he turned himself into a smoke-and-mirror sinker guy, but looking at the pitch values, looks like he did something to his curve to make it deadly? But there's a reason that curveballs have become a bit passe; once the book is out on a pitch that basically just breaks vertically, the dam will come crashing down. Ask Tyler Duffey.

    People decide to go to games based on whether or not Max Kepler is playing? Unless his family is in town, I doubt there's ever been a fan who's done that. And if the impetus is putting fans in the stands, not winning a championship, they might as well sign Tony Oliva, Kent Hrbek and Rod Carew because they actually would sell some tickets. At the expense of winning games.
