  1. Seems to me that Reed has made too many fielding mistakes in the outfield. We have better options.
  2. How many of you got paid to go to college?
  3. Of course, I should perhaps have mentioned that when I was growing up teams typically only carried 9 pitchers. Worked well, and as I recall the games were exciting.
  4. I have said for a long time that they either had to put an upper limit on the number of pitchers a team carried or, alternatively, a lower limit on the number of bench players that must be carried. What they did is likely to have a similar effect, but I would have preferred either of the alternatives.
  5. You could just as easily say that Sano is oft injured and May is a potential 40 save man. Can only say the May ended the season on a higher note than Sano.
  6. I had the same thoughts watching him last year, but I don't know how you sell the idea to a veteran like Odorizzi. Maybe sell him instead and go with one of the younger guys who has already accepted the idea. Both Stewart and Gonsalves seemed to thrive with that arrangement.
  7. Today we are going to see 12-13 pitchers per staff and too few bench players to allow for sensible substitutions. I've been saying for several years that they either need to limit the number of pitchers a team can carry to 9 or 10 or, alternatively, expand the roster - which will do no good without once again limiting the pitching staff. As a baseball fan I have trouble believing that games are too long, but.... If you want to shorten them some, reduce the number of pitching changes that can occur. Look back on last season's playoff to see how to make a game drag on with endless pitching changes. It might not shorten the games, but I'd rather watch a ball in play than another warmup.
  8. 28 blown saves last year. Even winning a third of them would have made this team look a lot better. Maybe Romero to the bullpen for a while would not be a bad idea.
  9. Why Baldelli instead of Espada? Seems an inside track on what the Astros do to succeed, might be an advantage.
  10. I suspect Doug may have butted heads with upper management. He is a winner though.
  11. I think some players are not being called up because their situation with the Twins is firm and we will be seeing them in time. Others are more unknown and this is a great time to begin evaluating them before we have to begin trimming the 40 man roster this winter.
  12. 103. Twins in 5 over Cubs. Channeling Nostradamus
  13. But let's not forget the incredible number of consecutive wins it took to lead the division by 17. I'm betting they can't match that magic again....ever. They likely weren't as good as 102 wins might suggest.
  14. Hey, does anyone remember the geometric proof style commercial about why it was important to have your kid circl led by Bert to prevent them from becoming a White Sox fan? I'd love to share that one with my wife, but can't find it anywhere. Maybe a link from someone smarter than me???
  15. I'm old. Been a Twins fan from day one. I would like another good year. There haven't been so many. Despite this years record, with some pitching and catching, I have great hope for next year.
  16. OK, so let me say that for me it was bad. I live in Oregon and had tickets to 7 Twins games this year, without seeing a win. That said, I do not believe they are that bad. Offensively they are middle of the road with room for improvement with the talent on hand. Defensively, potentially costing some offense, some people have to suck it up or go elsewhere. For the first time in years the outfield shows promise of being outstanding, which will help whatever pitchers they can come up with. Pitching being a subject hard to talk about. What happened to pitchers who started a game with the idea of finishing it? Who cares if you throw 97 mph but can only go 4 innings? How about some guys with the moxy and guts to go deeper? Is this a catching or pitching problem? A great pitcher makes the entire team look good. A great catcher can make the pitcher look good. I'm not sure where that balances out. We are not the worst Twins team ever, but we do need to solve the defensive problems, and instill a winning mindset to our pitching staff; which may require a pitching overhaul and a lower level change in development.
  17. Always seems as though people have forgotten all the concern about Sano being too big to be an effective MLB third baseman. Too many want to put him there for little more reason than that is where he played in the minor leagues. Third base may very well not be the best position for him, despite the past. I recall a guy by the name of Killibrew who came up as a third baseman. It worked out pretty well for the Twins to find a different position for him. Same might be true of Sano.
