  1. The only grades I'd probably disagree with here are Grossman - I'd go C+ given his defensive struggles (putting it lightly) and the high number of Ks in relation to run production. The other one is Santana's F. Do we have to use a typical K-12 grading scale for him, or can we just give him a Z and call it a day?
  2. All of this. All of this x 1,000. Robbie lived up to, or possibly surpassed, the expectations placed on him as Baseball Prospectus' #76 prospect of 2012, but nothing he did (in my mind) puts him in consideration for a starting spot. Barring multiple injuries. His "defense" is comical, his arm not much better, and while he does draw a number of walks, he also strikes out a bunch. I can live with strikeouts if there's a ceiling of high run production there. With Rob, I think we saw his absolute ceiling last year.
  3. Beresford the story of the year? Really? In a year that included a sighting of the elusive Sasquatch of MN Twins history (a 40-HR hitter), a rookie hitting 3 HRs in a game, the cornerstone (for better or worse) of the front office fired and a shift from the Twins Way to a (hopefully) more modern brand of baseball, the best story is that of a Punch and Judy poor man's Punto getting a participation trophy? Heck, I'd say having Albers, Dean and Milone in the same place at the same time is a bigger story as I was convinced they were the same guy.
  4. Isn't Kepler out of options? Doesn't that make more seasoning at Rochester highly unlikely since he'd never clear waivers? I was at the game where Grossman had two errors on one play ... so, no, he doesn't have a strong case to start anywhere.
  5. UGH ... I have a movie screening that I have to go to tonight. This needs to hurry up and happen before I go and turn my phone off or I won't be able to fully concentrate.
  6. Got it. Pitch framing. Thanks for the clarification.
  7. So, have we established whether or not pitch framing is a skill? If someone could clarify for me, that'd be great. I want to be excited by this, but I just can't. Pitch framing at the 5th best clip in baseball doesn't make up for the declining offensive numbers and declining CS %. I hope I'm wrong and I'm sure several of you will tell me just how wrong I am, but I foresee this ending the same way the last FA catcher signing did.
  8. Versatile, yes. But he's not particularly good at any of those positions either.
  9. Can't disagree with anyone added to the 40 today. And as others have said, just because guys like DanSan, O'Rourke, Grossman are there now it doesnt' mean they will be when the season starts. Who is everybody questioning not being added? After his return from the DL, Jones seemed to have good numbers and I was hopeful he'd be added. But maybe that injury will make people steer clear.
  10. If there's a time for it, this is it. The preference should be, however, to get Sano as many reps at 3B as possible, Polanco as many possible at SS, Vargas at 1B, etc. If he takes reps away from actual future parts of this team - like Schafer is doing in the OF - then I hate this move more than Albers in the rotation. OK, maybe that's an exaggeration, but it's pretty close. I'm just sick of marginal players getting rewarded for marginal play and then have the local shills put a positive spin on it by pointing out how "great a guy" they are or how James and Brian made each other friendship bracelets in rookie ball. I want the "feel-good" story for this team to be winning, not giving a poor man's Denny Hocking his first and only cup of coffee.
  11. Great, another feel-good story on a 100+ loss team. At least they're digging in their own dumpster this time instead of their neighbor's.
  12. Agreed. But by putting it out there now just how deserving Dozier is, it gives the "we never have nice things," "Dozier got screwed" and "we needed this more than Houston" crowds something to run with during the offseason.
  13. Dozier's not raking in Winona or LaCrosse, though. We care only about where Dozier Bombs land.
  14. I don't think it was. Their "security" all ran off to get Randy Moss' autograph. This was after training camp had ended, but he drove back down with his crew to "Back That Thang Up." As soon as he showed up, it became chaos. Most of the stuff we lost was promo items from Miller - T-shirts, mugs, hats, etc. It was about $500 worth of stuff, but because we had a good relationship with the distributor, replacing it wasn't an issue. The one that hurt was the digital camera. This was 2002/2003, somewhere in there, so a new Sony Cybershot (a decent one, anyway) was about $700.
  15. Move over, Mr. Logo, you've been replaced in Twins lore by the sweet smile and "aw shucks" Mississippi attitude of Mr. Dozier.
  16. LOL The Mankato Civic Center actually didn't book hip hop for a long time because of stuff like this. Ja Rule once refused to go on stage until he was paid his $20,000 fee in cash ... up front. A friend of mine ran the place at the time and he had to close all of the concession stands and empty their registers. He was able to scrounge up about half. Rule took the money after a breach of contract threat was made, along with threats of making a call to the IRS. Later that night, Rule's opening act - Juvenile - and his entourage got thrown out of a bar for trying to bring high school girls in with them. Those were teh days.
  17. According to Google, it was Astronautalis. Mr. Nautalis did not make a new fan in me that night. Then again, I've been soured on the Twin Cities hip hop community for a long while now. While in college, the entertainment paper I helped run worked with a Twin Cities promoter that was putting on a show that featured Twin Cities "up and comers" and Juvenile. He didn't pay our cut, he didn't pay his advertising bill, he allowed our stuff to get stolen, he didn't get us the interview with Juvenile as was promised, he tried to convince that a white MC (who I'm convinced was Slug) was better than Eminem and he made us wait in the lobby of a hotel for an hour (for the aforementioned Juvenile interview) and almost made us witnesses in a sexual assault case that was reported while we were waiting. Since then, I kinda swore off hip hop and even more so, the Minneapolis scene.
  18. It wasn't. I've heard them and know I'm not a fan. This was an someone I'd never heard of that I ended up despising even more.
  19. Hopefully Molitor is long retired before Dozier reaches that number.
  20. To be fair, he doesn't have much of anything.
  21. Another lead-off jack for Brian "Sell High" Dozier. Nicely done, good sir.
  22. I'd include anyone from 96.3 that plays the music in between innings and/or schedules the "artists" for the MN music series. After listening to the awful local hip hop act, whose name luckily escapes me, freezing through a cold, rainy night seemed like an improvement.
