  1. Best day to be a Twins fan in 5 years at least.
  2. I could also throw out the part where Polanco pinch hits for Mauer late in games to go to 3rd with Sano moving to 1st!
  3. I posted that because I think he will have a Nunez role next year i.e. Utility guy to start the year. Dozier is the second baseman and the decision on SS has already been made so through either injury to Sano or a lack of confidence in him I think he will get a number of regular starts at 3rd next year.
  4. This isn't going to be the popular take but I think Polanco will start 50+ games at 3rd next year.
  5. Giving people positions instead of making them earn it is one of the problems with this team. The only year they have had any fight was last year when Torri returned. Given a fair audition Sano would win a job and then Plouffe and Joe fight it out.
  6. No, we should do what good teams do. Make Plouffe and Sano compete for time while we have a legit bat on the bench.
  7. The D is nothing special in the infield. I would agree that Mauer is our best infielder. I would rate Plouffe next(not as good as last season) and the rest at average or below. I think our outfield has a lot of potential with time. I wouldn't mess with that. There are some on the Twins that never learned to make good plays look routine. They make good plays look spectacular and never make anything over a good play.
  8. I have not watched a single game the Colts have played since the "suck for Luck" thing and I in no way believe that the players were any part of that. Play the best you have and see what happens. If the players tank GET RID OF THEM!!!!!
  9. First problem with many of us is "trade x position player so we can get B up here" What I think is missing is having to fight for your playing time/job. Plouffe can be a bench/utility player, Polanco can fight with Dozier and Sano for AB's. I think we have the right outfield now. 4 guys that are not pigeonholed into a certain slot. When Plouffe comes back we either have 1 too many infielder or 1 too many extra Vargas/Mauer but competition SHOULD let that play itself out. If competition is a problem then problems go deeper than the players and then "total system failure" is upon us and the whole thing needs blown up!!! I have pointed this out before but Lance Berkman joined the Yankees to be a bench bat. No wonder we haven't been competitive. Lance Berkman would have been this team's MVP for 5 years running. Great teams have bench players that could be someone else's All Star if given the opportunity.
  10. OK Max, make a mark here!'!!!!!!!
  11. Pitch count at 79, should be good so send Tommy out again! I think it was fairly obvious that Tommy was lucky to get out of the 5th and I can't believe that everyone who has any say didn't see that also SO I hope that was "pitch for your job" move by sending Milone out for the 6th!
  12. Dozier needs the All Star break bad.
  13. Is that a "pack your bags" play?
  14. Stay hot'!!!!!'!!!!!
  15. I posted this the other day. I was not sold on Kepler being able to contribute much this year as he has been a 1 year per level player in the past and even though he could be a prime candidate for a sophmore slump, I have seen enough to be convinced he is going to be a 10 year star in this league if he can maintain health. It may take until 2019 to get the consistency down but I could see Ellis Burks type numbers for him from the #2 hole. That would be impressive. FYI Ellis Burks 162 game average 101 runs/ 33 doubles/ 5 triples/ 29 homers/ 98 RBI/ 15 steals and a career WAR of 49.6 My thought is he is the perfect #2 hitter. Left handed, plate discipline, runs well and enough pop to make a pitcher pay.

  17. There is still 1 more move to be made in the next couple days. Trevor May was at the ballpark today but was not activated due to pitching in back to back days. He will be activated, probably before Tuesdays game. What is the corresponding move? I doubt that the 12 pitcher thing will last longer than that unless we get 7 from Nolasco tomorrow. Then maybe we try to roll with 12 until the all star break.
  18. It is an unusual situation regarding Park. From a baseball perspective he is the right choice but transitioning to USA from Korea, getting used to Minneapolis then having to get used to a different town in Rochester puts a bit of strain on the person. Then add on family(not sure on that) and the situation gets even more complicated. Having said all that Park would still be the one to go down if I was GM with it being pretty clear that he comes back when rosters expand. That would allow him to plan around that. As to the Park promo on July 5, I am not convinced Sano is up any before then. Sano up following that series.
  19. I think Plouffe is tradeable for a nice piece but we would have to throw in a nice piece with him to get interest. Not sure what that would be but that is where the scouting department comes in. Can our scouts come up with a diamond someone is willing to give up if we package Plouffe with someone else that they want? Mets, Tribe and Royals all could use a 3rd baseman and in this case I wouldn't hesitate to go within the division. I would make sure I keep Polanco just in case Sano doesn't work at 3rd he might be able to transition there. For 1 year Polanco as utility guy is not the worst thing. Nunez this year proves there are ABs to go around for a utility guy if he warrants it.
  20. During the rain delay yesterday Kris was talking to one of the front office guys(know his voice but can't come up with his name) The subject of falling behind and the trade deadline came up and he said that the front office has not received a call yet about any player. I am pretty close on the quote "it comes down to performance and our guys haven't performed well enough for other teams to be interested" The reality is that it takes 2 to tango but at the same time it is early, 6 weeks or so until the deadline. I love both Plouffe and Mauer but the reality is one of them has to go. Park going to AAA would solve that but jacking around with him after the Nishi disaster would probably put a permanent stain on the Twins for future international signings. Maybe that would not be a bad thing but,,,,,,, It is easy to sit here and say what we would do or Terry should do but the job of a big league GM isn't as easy as most of us think. Most of us would last about as long at it as we would in Vegas at the final table in the World Series of poker.
  21. "I will stop trying to steal bases when trailing as soon as the team in the lead stops trying to hit home runs." Rickey Henderson
  22. The other thing to factor in this move is the likelihood of Hughes giving us less than 6 innings tonight. We should all be prepared for a 2 inning clunker and if it is 7 strong be happy.
  23. The Twins Way was really more about players with a chip on their shoulder playing the game hard for 9 innings. The coaches installed all the other parts. The trouble with the big boppers is when they try to play harder they squeeze the bat harder and that rarely produces results that are positive.
