    I don't think worrying about Lewis is unfounded. DC Twins isn't saying Royce Lewis won't be a productive major leaguer. He's saying he won't be a superstar (probably) and his chances of being a star are diminished. All of which is very true. Superstars generally show themselves early and make level jumps easily. Now, there are those who don't, that is true. But the problem with that logic is that virtually everybody doesn't destroy level after level. To think that Royce Lewis has a chance to become one of these rare hitters among all good prospects is to basically have had that hope for him early and just not let it go. I think we're looking at a guy who will come to be as his best chance a first-division regular, along the lines of Kubel, Cuddyer in terms of production relative to league.

    While I personally think very little of Nick Gordon as an MLB prospect, apparently the Twins like him more than Sean Poppen. Or perhaps they're very sure Poppen will not be a service time consideration (ever), and Gordon's trade value doesn't decrease because he's getting service time in September. Marlins or Orioles might want to count on him for the next seven years. :-)

    And Dobnak. I think guys like Jax are a dime a dozen, but we'll see. These days players are breaking out all over due to data-based learning. The one constant is that pitchers who throw harder are more difficult to hit, all else being equal.

    I'm not sure of the scale, so the exact size of this kangaroo is still a mystery to me.

    They were. Guy scored from third on an error (on DP turn, so couldn't assume an out), then a hit came thereafter, so guy who would have been on 3rd if not for the error would have scored anyway.

    I would much rather have Wander Javier on my team than Nick Gordon. But certainly when we got a look at Arraez in MLB and went back to look at his minor league stats, it was so obvious he was better than Nick Gordon will ever be. Nick Gordon's ceiling is a 2nd division infielder, and that's after many years. Javier has a much higher ceiling. I could somewhat understand if you put Gordon ahead of Arraez before this year, because without seeing Arraez vs MLB pitching, you wonder whether that no-power hit line could ever translate. But no excuse once you saw Arraez.

    Not to be a downer, but a normal distribution of July stats by Twins minor league relievers is going to nearly show on the tail what's shown above, even if all Twins pitchers are exactly of the same abilities. The ones of interest here are the ones who are repeating it.

    Oof, I will bet my house against your house that Odorizzi will not be QO'd. He is a mediocre or maybe average starter. The smart, new Twins will never in a million years extend a qualifying offer to him. My guess is that he will not start in the playoffs, and that at best he works low leverage from the bullpen. Jake Odorizzi will be a forgotten piece of this season, except for someone who remembers that he had a pretty decent first half.

    Mike Minor is nothing like Martin Perez. Minor has been legit since he became a top prospect with the Braves. Unfortunately, injuries crushed his career up until last year. I would give a lot (Larnach) for Minor, and I'm one who won't give up squat, in general.

    I do not think that phrase means what you think it means.

    Too many comments to wade through prior to making mine, so I'll write then read. Trading Diaz should not be an issue at all. The Twins would have to protect him this year, and it's highly doubtful that would happen. To get three assets for him is, in general, a great haul, even if one is just org filler. The only question, and it's an important one, is if Romo is the best Diaz can bring or help bring. That depends on Romo to some extent. I highly doubt Diaz could ever bring more value than good Romo. The MiLB pitcher is a bonus.

    No on Lewis, Kirilloff, Graterol, Balzovic, and Duran (and Arraez), and maybe no on Larnach. The way to win a WS is not to "go for it." The way to win is to have a consistently very good team that you can add to with the Gordons and Rookers of the system. Year after year. I'd rather have a chance every year (a real chance, not a Terry Ryan no clue how to put together the right pieces 2000s chance) than shoot my load on one year every so often. Rosario will need to be dealt, dealing Buxton might be the necessary play, pitching needs to gel in the upper system. Players are going to need to be replaced, and a system of continuity has to be developed. You need to keep your top tops. The Twins might not pull a Stroman/Giles or a Boyd/Greene without a top prospect, but they can certainly get some relief help. Starting pitching is on its way in the system. Pretty close, really.

    The idea that Gordon is MLB-ready is just funny. Remember that when he finally gets called up to some team. My over/under for him being MLB-ready is about 2-3 years after he gets his first call.

    When in the world will people let Nick Gordon go? The question is not whether he's a better prospect than Luis Arraez, but whether his best year would ever come close to Arraez' worst year. If some organization places value on Gordon, it is imperative the Twins sell. Gordon's upside is Christian Arroyo.

    This looks like a "give everyone lots of rest because we're up 10 games and if we don't do it now we'll regret it later" kind of move. We'll probably know for sure if Pineda makes a start on the first day eligible.

    This friend sounds a bit more grounded than you. I haven't had to warn many, but it's very rare that everything just goes right from start to finish, and I'm shocked at how people are so quick to dismiss Cleveland. Ramirez is batting one-something, and Clevinger is working his way back. Things are going to change, Cleveland for the better, the Twins for the worse. They might change back, maybe very likely, but people are acting like it's over, and it's most definitely not over. Enjoy the ride, but bad things happen to all teams, and we really haven't experienced that yet. It wasn't until the 1991 team went on the 15 game win streak that ended in July with the Twins firmly in control and pretty obviously one of the best two teams in the AL that I truly was optimistic they'd be in the playoffs. This Twins team is arguably only the 5th or 6th best team in the AL. There is variation in the intermediary, so it's not shocking that a team can get off to a hotter start than expected, especially with so many teams just not in the truly competing mode (nine teams). Notice the Twins are seemingly crushing but not pulling away from NYY, TB, and Hou.

    If Austin Adams never makes another pitch for the Twins, I will remember him fondly as the player who pushed Addison Reed off the team. The Twins may want to work with that 97 mph fastball a bit longer, but if they do drop Adams, I suspect it will be for Cruz, meaning Arraez can stick around until a reliever is needed. That might be only a day or two, but I can see them wanting Arraez to get a chance to experience Target Field.

    For the record Rosales is not only awesome in spring training, he's quite often awesome when he makes the team or gets the call...for a week or two. Don't be fooled. Old dog, no new tricks. Easy for teams to figure out how to pitch to. Not exactly sure why it's happened more than once, as I would expect the book to be there after the first time.

    I think the flatness of the contract is a reflection of the Twins current (lack of) spending and also of Kirilloff looming. Somebody in the outfield will likely have to go by 2021, and it could be Rosario, with Kepler moving to LF. It could be Buxton with Kepler perhaps moving to CF. And it could be Kepler himself. His trade chip becomes more valuable with money being placed on the front end. As for 1B, I don't think that's a long term plan for Kepler at this point. He's a guy you could sell high as a CF, so why would you chain him to 1B? He might play there a little bit as you try to fit four or five OFers into a lineup here and there, but that doesn't seem efficient or optimal for an extended period. My gut told me Kepler was verging on a breakout this past season, and the FanGraphs articles put quantification to that. I'd been worried all winter that the Twins were going to trade an emerging stud, so I'm happier with this announcement than I am with Polanco's, though I think that's reasonable, too. He's just not a shortstop, and I have doubts the Twins will be picking up those option years when he's a 30/31 yr old 2B. Javier (pushing Lewis to 2B) or Severino or Unknown will be a lot cheaper option with maybe the same production. But the beauty is that we're covered if Polanco is indeed at another level come those years. Good job, Twins!

    Romero has two pitches, command issues, and breaks down or doesn't have stamina. That's the history. There's never been a more clear-cut case of someone needing to go to the pen.
