  1. Payroll arguments are always a bit of a stretch when you consider that the billionaires that own the team pay themselves salaries of $10 million per year. If they cared about the fans that would go to the team. Like most wealthy people, they feel they are entitled to making lots of money on some thing that they really don’t do that much with, and they make a huge gain when they sell it. And when they need to build a stadium that increases the value of their team they go to the taxpayers.
  2. I think the playoff series and how it ended give hope for the next year. The pieces I see for the infield next year, including Miranda and Lewis at third. Correa, Farmer at SS,, Julien/ Lee at second and Kiriloff/Miranda at first, OF is Waller/Larnach, Buxton/Lee in CF, R TBD, but likely Kepler/Kiriloff with Castro as utility. Jeffers and TBD at catcher. Lee at CF as a backup and to get into game, Martin maybe in OF. Gone are Polanco ( not happy for that), Gallo, Vasquez, Taylor. Maybe Taylor in reduced role.
  3. The plan this year looked very frustrating and hard to decipher. If the plan was to keep them going until the near end of the year, then it was brilliant. However, I really hesitate to use the word brilliant with our front office. I think the calculus now is there’s very little to lose putting him in the field. His knee is cranky, that probably affects his hitting. His hamstring will probably do better with him out in the field because it keeps him warmer all the time physically. Time to roll the dice. If he gets hurt, there’s always next year. I’m guessing he’s going to need a knee operation pretty soon. If using just a DH he is very limited. He basically owes the team some playing time. And I’m guessing he wants to play. Go Buck.
  4. Keplers redeeming quality is always been his defense. Now that his bat is heating up, it’s silly to get rid of him for next to nothing. Gallo is a failed experiment. Decent outfielder, but we can’t afford to have both Gallo and Buxton in the same lineup because one of the two of them as a guaranteed out every time they come up to bat. They used to be true of Kepler, but he seems to have Straightened out the holes in his swing. He this front office hangs onto borderline veterans way too long.

  6. I didn’t know that the Onion had a twins beat writer.
  7. Celestino is the perfect backup for a team with Buxton. Buck will always have nagging injuries due to his style and intense style of play, so we need a reliable player who give quality time in CF and have good starts in LF.
  8. Baseball has a long history of relatively successful relievers who last a year or so by living on the edges and nibbling. It drives fans and managers crazy, but they are useful. He is not a dominant thrower but he seems to know what works for him. Closer, hopefully not, but he is not Colome’.
