  1. Yeah, the Trop is a terrible place to catch a game. No fans, crap venue, it's too bad really.
  2. $10?! That would buy you two burgers with fries at Ferg's.
  3. I want to echo this. I simply don't have the time that I used to to spend reading up on the Twins and this is the best place that I've found that I can get a plethora of content on a wide variety of topics. I don't even have the time I used to for this site unfortunately, but it's definitely not because I don't want to be here more. Between the writers & contributors here, the linked articles/blogs and the knowledgeable commenters (those I agree AND disagree with) this is a great place to get caught up and/or stay caught up on what's going on with the Twins and even the league. I just wish that I had more time to keep digging through what I haven't already discovered. Keep up the good work everyone!
  4. I'm against mortgaging the future, but spending money and/or trading prospects to acquire a guy that will be around for a few productive years that makes the club better is not mortgaging the future in my opinion. There's obvious risk there. The question goes back to who that right piece is. I'm with you on that I'm not convinced that Verlander is that guy, but I'm not convinced that he's not either. I tend to go back to trusting what the FO thinks they can get during the offseason. If Verlander is the better than what they expect to acquire in the offseason, then I think this team is in a position where a deal makes sense. If that isn't the case, I think you wait until the offseason. There is always the chance that Verlander is still available at that point too.
  5. I believe this to be the case as well. Much of my clamoring to get Garver up is more related to the fact that that big league club didn't have anyone on the active roster to spell Mauer aside from Sano for quite a while. I know that Kepler has played some 1B, but for whatever reason Molitor doesn't play him there. I'd rather he play RF as well. They've also been trying to figure out a DH for most of the season. Garver would at least be an option for both of those situations. I didn't expect him, or any other rookie call up this year, to make any meaningful impact but they're at least getting a taste and something to work towards for next year if nothing else. If our assertion is correct that they're trying to get some value out of him by playing multiple positions, it's less important that he's catching much at the MLB level as long as he's getting reps and ABs somewhere. In that context, one game is pretty meaningless one way or another.
  6. As has been said many places in this thread, including the one you quoted, how do you know that Mauer didn't ask to be put in the lineup and Molitor simply didn't do it? It's not about not being able to criticize a player, it's about being reasonable about it. You, nor I, have any idea what transpired before the game yesterday. In the end, Molitor is the guy filling out the lineup card. I'm disappointed that Mauer wasn't in the lineup last night too, but it's unreasonable to me to rip Mauer alone. Molitor could simply have gone to Mauer and said, "hey, we need you today." He may have, but we don't know. In the end, Molitor is the one that filled out the lineup card.
  7. I always thought that it would be interesting to get a Mrs Riverbrian section in his game thread intros. I'm sure that no good would come of it for RB, but the rest of us would probably enjoy it.
  8. There are some that would argue that they already have been spayed or neutered with their inability to score runs.
  9. Correct. A domesticated card would be much safer. It may even make for a nice pet, given certain circumstances.
  10. Anybody know what the Canadian exchange rate for games in the standings is? I imagine that makes the Twins task that much more difficult. Maybe North knows?
  11. Too many 3 ball counts...
  12. This seems like a trick question. On his hands?
  13. A promising inning smothered quickly...
  14. Even if they did take their ball and go home, the ump would just ask the ball boy for another and the game would go on anyway. So your plan is a better one.
  15. Buxton didn't get cheated on that one.
  16. Salindino has one hell of a mustache.
  17. Take our ball and go home?
  18. I get the point and I don't disagree about the second day in five bit. However, there really hasn't been a backup 1B on the roster much in the last month or so. Plus, he may have asked to be put in but Molitor sat him anyway. We don't know that that didn't happen. Molitor could be using the soft tossing lefty matchup to get Garver some playing time and killing two birds with one stone. Joe has played in 107 of the 127 games this season. That's quite a few for a guy that should be platooned more.
  19. Wasn't aware that he was an hourly employee.
  20. So he should be a part time player that plays every day?
  21. So you're saying that next inning will be a good one for the bats?
  22. You have no idea what you're missing!
  23. Berrios seems to be getting the calls tonight.
