  1. The fans sitting in the outfield bleachers. It'll be quicker that way. Cut out the middle man.
  2. I was shocked to hear that they even did birth certificates when you were born, Chief. Then I figured that they just carved it onto a slab of stone a la the Flintstones.
  3. But there is only one Craig Breslow. The other teams need fallback options!
  4. Unless Arizona suddenly decides to be after a 2B. Dozier's bat would play well there in my view. I have no idea how likely that really is though.
  5. Or, if you want a pitcher as early as next year instead of a maybe in 4 or 5 years from now. This was the right move given where this team is at. They need the pitching now to emerge along side the position player core. Ynoa may have more upside, but this team needs young pitching now. I like this deal a lot.
  6. Hell, there are days I have already gotten 18 in by 8am!
  7. My wife likes to sleep, so I get a ton of stuff done before she even gets out of bed. It's nice and quiet and I have nobody to interrupt me!
  8. I hear ya. I too am a morning person and I'm at my second concert in three days. I'm not used to staying up past midnight once let along twice in three days. At least tonight isn't a "school" night. First world problems, right?
  9. Wouldn't the proper utensil be a stick in that case?
  10. To me, some of this depends on what was done between now and then. If they're 10 games over .500 that likely means that pitching has improved one way or another. That's probably a time to buy in most cases. The logical conclusion is that you sell assets now to acquire younger, controllable assets that help down the road. Coupled with the talent they do have in the minors, it's a means to grow the franchise. The key is to hit on the acquisitions and the timing needs to be right to produce a winner. To me, the latter may end up being the bigger problem. By the time they get enough quality pitching, the core of position players may become unaffordable. Of course, if they never do acquire the quality pitching, it's a moot point. That is why some of us have been pining to trade the vets for at least a full season now. Doing it correctly could result in an extended legitimate window similar to what the Royals were able to accomplish or what the Giants and Cardinals have been able to do for the better part of a decade.
  11. This FO is definitely in a tough spot. Some of it is of their own making a serious effort to improve the pitching staff, but much of it was inherited. It's difficult to tell the team and the fans that they need to be patient after such a brutal stretch, but caution is still called for to not veer too far off of the long term plan set in motion during the last offseason. I'm exceedingly tired of this non-rebuild and half trying to win stuff. Even more tired of it than the losing. Selling off what few assets they do have is at least a definitive step in a direction instead of continuing to tread water as has been the case over the last half decade. I've been saying this all year, but it's time to let some of the near ready guys go through their lumps this season so they can work on specifics during the offseason and come into next season more prepared. Any buying they do should be for long term gain. If an opportunity arises to get a controllable player, pitcher in particular, I have no issue dealing some of the minor league depth to get it done.
  12. Nothing good ever comes of a strikeout. Even with double play, the ball is in play and anything can happen. That happens 0% of the time with a strikeout. Even on a K-PB/WP, that had nothing to do with the batter. Put the ball in play! Make the defense make the play. Double plays can kill rallies and/or minimize positive results but there are times when they can be productive nonetheless even if it is a small percentage. That small percentage is still above 0.
  13. That's how I interpreted his words too. He's trying to get Buxton to square balls up more rather than popping them up or beating them into the ground like he had been doing for a while. I was saying the other day after watching Kepler hit another frozen rope over the outfield wall that it would be great if Buxton could start hitting line drives the way Kepler does when he's going good. Hopefully we're starting to see that ability develop more.
  14. When Bundy misses the plate, he really misses the plate.
  15. He has moments where he's pretty good. He also has moments when he's spewing nothing but BS. His explanation of Sano dropping the ball in the first was the latter.
  16. Wouldn't want to shut them down now would we...
  17. Good spot for Polanco to get off the schneid.
  18. Especially when he had to hold up to make sure it got through.
