  1. Great report. This suggests that Deduno may be getting better, which could be a very good thing.
  2. Why do they never come to California? They could at least send Butera here.
  3. So true.
  4. For what it's worth, I could not be more proud of my son for choosing such a difficult and underpaid career, or more appreciative for your efforts in this regard. You are making the world a better place and your efforts are appreciated by people like me.
  5. That was not my intent. I am a big fan of mental health professionals -- my oldest son is a social worker -- and what I intended to convey was my desire to get many of those professionals off unemployment and back to work helping people who need help. I understand your point and agree that few people get into such profession for the money.
  6. I saw him pitch in Anaheim last year and his lack of an out pitch was a major problem. I wish that he could develop one. In contrast, almost everything that Deduno throws seems like it could be an out pitch, if only he would not walk so many people. As for Walters, it seems to me that he just needs to elevate everything that he does, assuming that he is capable of that.
  7. It sounds like the murderer here may have suffered from Asbergers syndrome, and fame might not have been a motivating factor. That said, it seems to me that our nation needs to further increase security at our schools. With so many people who are unemployed, maybe it makes sense to pay some of them to guard schools instead of just giving them unemployment benefits and welfare. And I think that we need to find the money to hire more mental health professionals to help stop disasters before they happen. Again, I prefer paying people to do work that we really need, such as helping mentally ill (and potentially dangerous people) than giving the same people unemployment benefits and/or welfare. Finally, I think that some reasonable level of gun control makes sense, but at this point there are so many assault rifles out there that I don't see gun control helping much except over the very long run.
  8. You make a lot of sense my friend!
  9. Nick, I think that you have done a great job laying this out, and let's all hope that Pelfrey pans out . I just wish that the Twins had at least one option year in case he is really good.
  10. I agree with all you have said and your optimism is inspiring.
  11. I think that this will depend on what other teams offer, but both of these guys seem solid and if the Twins could get them both for Perkins that would seem to be a good deal for the Twins.
  12. Another great article. Now that the Angels are loaded up, maybe it would make more sense to talk to Oakland. The A's might be willing to part with a couple of very good prospects if the Twins would cover some or most of Morneau's salary. It looks to me like the A's have some very solid starters in the minors -- A.J. Cole, Brad Peacock, Sonny Gray, and others, as well as some interesting position players. Maybe they would be willing to part with two of these for a subsidized year of Morneau?
  13. I would rather pay a lot more to get someone younger, like Sanchez. The next two years are likely to be rebuilding years, and Sanchez will likely still be good when the Twins are ready to compete.
  14. I could see giving Jackson 4 years at $13 million. The Twins need to get one more decent pitcher if they want to avoid last place 3 years in a row. The Twins could easily lose more that $13 million in revenue next year if they continue to put out a third rate product.
  15. Well said. The Twins may lose 100 games next year, but Mauer will hopefully keep fans in the stands.
  16. It seems to me that Morneau and Willingham might fetch a lot more if the Twins wait until the trade deadline is approaching.
  17. Whatever his value, I would add 10% for the benefit of keeping him from Detroit. And I agree that a premium need to be paid to attract good players to the Astros of the AL.
  18. Maybe this is part of a master plan to get a high draft slot for the 2014 draft?
  19. For what the Twins are paying, I would hope for at least 150 innings and an era below 5.
  20. Excellent article. I hope that Ryan gets in gear before all the decent free agents are taken.
  21. I share your love for Tovar!
  22. Yeah. Terry Ryan should get to hire his own manager. He shouldn't be saddled with the guy hired by the GM in 2002. That guy was a moron. Good one!
  23. I remember almost all of these and am now calling my doctor to ask for some antidepressant medication.
