  1. Yes, yes and yes...its like you stole the words right out of my mouth. Or should I say keyboard.
  2. Hey Nick, congratulations on being quoted by ESPN in the latest power rankings.
  3. If the Twins don't do long-toss then they need to consider it. Thier current program doesn't seem to be doing a good job preventing injuries. Before reading this I had no clue that long-toss was viewed negetively by so many instructors at the ML level. I have always felt the practice was a crucial part of developing and strengthening the arm.
  4. So everytime the Twins get off to a crappy start we can just go back to '06 for hope? Forgive me if I'm not so optimistic. Do you see Justin Morneau turning it up and having an MVP year? I don't. Do we have an ace that can win a CY Young? Not even close. It goes on. The Twins got off to a bad start in '06 but they had the pieces to get back in the race making it one of the most exciting seasons of baseball I've ever watched. This team does not have those pieces so stop kidding yourself. This may be true about the offense, but the pitching is just as bad as what we've seen. Worst starting staff in all of baseball with little hope on the farm
  5. There is no way the Twins would be willing to trade Span for (a healthy) Storen straight up. I beleive the reason the deal didn't happen last year was because the Twins wanted another big piece but Washington wouldn't give in. That may have been Smith finally realizing you don't trade productive/promising position players for relievers. I'm sure Terry Ryan already knows this. I think Span certainly could be traded, but a relief pitcher will not be the main piece we get back.
  6. Perez' batting average is currently at .225. Unfortunately for the Miracle, this is right on par with the team as a whole. They have been awfull offensively to this point. The teams best hitter(oswaldo arcia) is sporting a .277 average with a .785 OPS. I know its supposed to be a pitchers league but come on! I know this is supposed to be strictly about Perez but I couldn't help it. This Fort Myers team should be better.
  7. It would be great if some sucker team would over-value him like the Twins did in 2010...
  8. How is it possible that not only does Minnesota not have a minor league team affiliated with the Twins, but they don't even have a minor league team affiliated to any ML team? I suppose it has a lot to do with geography but this has always bothered me. I seriously could care less about the independent league.
  9. This organization is absolutely broken. Sure teams go through down seasons, but last season was an absolute disaster and this season looks like it could be worse. Terry Ryan and the scouting department are largely responsible for the terrible drafting from 2003-2007. Lets not forget Bill Smith and those disasterous trades. Can it be fixed? Sure, with good drafting (particularly this year), and of course development, but I'm not confident that the powers that be will get it done. Gardy and the coaching staff are burnt out and they seem to have lost the team. It happens, rarely can a manager be effective for 10 years or more. I appreciate Gardy for his contributions to this team over the years, but its time for a change. I can't say for sure if that will help, I just don't foresee the Twins getting back to contention with him and TR running things. I just think its time to clean house and get some new blood.
  10. Looks like his AA debut was delayed
  11. He'll squeek one over the fence down the line somewhere. Maybe even target field. It doesn't take much power to hit a ball 340'. This ball went at least 350'...
  12. http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/manhattan/detroit_slugger_delmon_young_busted_qabDrrRJ45eBxoay6qou1O
  13. The anti-semitic remarks are hard to defend. But the rest is a non story. The victim suffered nothing more than scratches. Young wasn't even charged with assault but rather aggravated harrassment.
  14. Hopefully Jairo can get the average up even though the Florida State League is notoriously a pitchers league. He did hit his 2nd HR of the seaon tonight though.
  15. Miguel Sano struck out 3 times again. Somebody help me out. Are there any successful major leaguers who, at Sano's age, had a similar strike out rate. I'm just trying to find a reason to feel better about it. Otherwise I can't help but feel if Sano dosn't get the Strike outs down, he will never make it. Simple as that...
  16. If the Twins go with a position player it has to be Zunino in my opinion.
  17. I find Miguel Sano's strike out rate very alarming. Even Mark Reynolds, the mlb strike out king, did not strike out this much when he was a prospect.
  18. Every year before the season starts, all of us who follow prospects have our list of players that we plan to watch. However, there are usually a couple players who aren't really on anyone's radar but start turning some heads by putting up great numbers. Last year Jairo Perez was one of those players. I didn't know anything about him until he joined the Snappers and started raking. Jairo Perez was signed as an international free agent in 2006. From Venezuela, he was 18 when he signed with the Twins. He didn't get much playing time until 2008. He hit very will for the DSL Twins batting .338 with 4 HR's and .962 OPS. The following year he came to the US and joined the GCL Twins. In 120 at bats he hit just .217 with a HR and a Triple. Things got worse for him as he missed the whole 2010 season due to Tommy John surgery. Not something you usually hear about with position players. I'm guessing he must have pitched a lot as a youth in his home country. He started 2011 in extended spring training. In June he joined the Beloit Snappers and took off. He finished the season with a .337 batting average with 15 HR's and 20 doubles. Not to mention a whopping .992 OPS. He is currently playing for the Fort Myers Miracle. Batting .240 with a HR and 6 doubles.
  19. Has Wimmers had any tests done on his elbow? He hasn't pitched in almost 2 weeks. What is going on? How concerned should we be?
  20. If there was a chance the Twins were gonna excercise the option its gone now. I could see the Twins offering him and incentive filled contract with a base of around $500K next year. Perhaps a club option for 2014.
  21. Was anyone else caught offgaurd watching the game on FSN. They announced during the game that doctors made a last minute decision to do TJ surgery on Scott Baker. This will certainly prolong the recovery effort.
  22. Who exactly are you refering to? Giolito never had surgery as far as I know.
  23. A #2 overall pick, even if drafted out of HS, should take less than 4 or 5 years to reach the bigs. Mauer was drafted in '01 and debuted opening day '04. If the Twins take Buxton there's no reason (I'm making the assumption that he stays healthy and puts up solid numbers in the minors) that he can't debut sometime in 2015. That being said, I would prefer the Twins take Appel. I agree with those that say a team should draft best player avaliable, but to me it is not 100% clear who the best player is so I would prefer the Twins go by need.
  24. Hey Seth, I'm going to be a nitpicker for a moment a point out that we are in daylight savings right now so for example the Snappers play at 6:30 (CDT) today. Again, glad to see Hicks is hitting from the left side of the plate. I've been in the group that wanted him to give up on being a switch hitter but I would not mind one bit being proved wrong there. It seems like Sano is being given the Bonds treatment some days.
