  1. If the Twins do take Buxton, where would he slot in on the Twins prospect rankings? #2 behind Sano?
  2. Nice rip by Morneau. What does everyone think of the 3B coach (Steve Liddle)? It was tough to tell from the TV view, but it looked like Willingham could have scored. I realize he's slow, there was 1 out with Doumit on deck, but there have been many occasions where it seemed he has held guys up when it appeared they could have easily scored. Overall though, better than Ulger. He was pretty bad.
  3. Agreed that trading Span for Storen would be a mistake. He's a young CF, affordable, playing very well, which makes him their best trade chip. But on the flip side of that, he's also just the type of player that would be nice to keep around in a rebuilding effort. Regardless of what they end up doing, I really hope they don't trade him for Storen. They definitely should be able to get more along the lines of prospects.
  4. Right, within a year or two is probably not realistic, but the point I was going for is that with a guy like Zunino, he should be advanced enough where he could make an impact relatively quickly. With the Twins, we're used to having all of our draft picks be in the minors for at least 4-5 years before even sniffing the majors. But unless I'm forgetting someone, all of the hitters they've chosen in the first round recently have been out of high school so as 18 year olds, unless they are some kind of supreme talent like Bryce Harper, it's natural to expect that they'd be in the minors for at least 4-5 years. The Twins haven't had a pick this high since Mauer. I don't think it's completely crazy to think that if they took Zunino, who has been compared to Buster Posey as far as his hitting skills, that he would move through the system alot faster than other Twins prospects (assuming he was playing well obviously). And as far as drafting college hitters in the first round, I just remembered Levi Michael from last year. But he obviously isn't even in the same conversation talent-wise of someone like Zunino.
  5. Lot's of chatter about how Mike Zunino is a possibility at #2 overall to the Twins in the draft. As much as I would like a top flight starting pitcher, I'm starting to think this guy might be the best pick, particularly as there doesn't seem to be much consensus on who the top pitcher would be. It sounds like Zunino's defense is fairly strong, but his bat is even better. Hopefully he would be advanced enough that within a year or two, he could be ready to play in the bigs. By that time, Mauer might be ready to move away from catcher on a more regular basis. Regardless, I hope the Twins take whoever they feel has the highest upside in the draft, whether it's a pitcher, catcher, OF, whatever. They simply need more high-end talent in the system.
  6. Does Capps have any trade value right now? I highly doubt that in a trade they could get the equivalent of the draft pick they would have gotten simply for letting him walk in the off-season. It's bad enough that they gave up the draft pick to re-sign him, but they paid him 2-3 times as much as other similar RP's got in the offseason.
  7. Could they have sent Morneau home on Plouffe's hit? On tv it sure looked like he could have made it!
  8. Just curious how Span would have been considered the top defensive CF in the league. Was that based on defensive metrics during that season in which he got hurt? I had always heard he was essentially an average or slightly above average defensive CF. Just curious. Also, according to Baseball Reference, Revere never slugged .487 for his minor league career. They list his career SLG at .406. And in fact, since 2009 when he started in A+ ball, he has never slugged better than .369.
