  1. Save a little money now and grab some better guys later
  2. I am still hopeful that giving Graterol such a nonspecific diagnosis reflects a lack of anatomical injury on MRI (i.e. rotator cuff tear, labral tear, etc). It certainly could be that his shoulder hurts when lifting his arm above his head, probably common in pitchers and any other overhead arm use profession, and this is a good opportunity to shut him down to rest. I predict he will be back pitching later this season, and will be called up to the Twins for our playoff run.
  3. As a Minnesota sports fan, I know in my heart that this article is a kiss of death. I am clearly broken inside.
  4. I hope Graterol’s shoulder impingement is really more about limiting innings in preparation for a deep Twins postseason run!
  5. They are playing out of their minds. I’m afraid to go to a game and jinx our squad.
  6. If Sano starts the season on the DL, which seems likely, I wonder who we carry on the 25 man? Adrianza?
  7. I think he’s got a shot at sticking to the Rangers roster. He was stuck behind Wade, Reed, and Cave for 4th OF in Minnesota.
  8. “Remember when Sano shattered his leg in August of 2017 and played the next day?” This is needless hyperbole. His bone did not shatter (implying many small pieces.) He got hit on his shin, and had negative x-rays. Return to play was indicated. Later, after having persistent pain, a stress fracture was diagnosed with advanced imaging. This is not a surgical problem in nearly all cases, and the treatment is rest. Unless you are a 300lb athlete that cannot sit out for six months...
  9. Just to clarify, and then to speculate. The achilles tendon attaches the calf muscles to the calcaneus bone on the back of the foot. We call this area the heel. In general, lacerations on extensor surfaces of joints (like the heel, knee, elbow, etc) are under increased tension, and have a tendency to pull apart when the joint is flexed. We often leave sutures in place much longer on these types of lacerations to ensure good skin strength prior to removing them. The achilles tendon is very superficial under the skin in this area. This end of the tendon is relatively avascular (has poor blood supply), and is slow to heal from injury. The rate of wound complications and poor healing from primary tendon repair after achilles rupture is actually quite high—high enough that achilles tendon repair is falling out of favor for many orthopedic surgeons. One could imagine a non sterile, non surgical wound sustained from a cleat or metal stairs would also be high risk for complication. I speculate that Sano’s heel laceration may have involved a partial tendon laceration, which is why they are immobilizing his ankle two months later. The medical team wants the tendon and overlying wound to heal fully before stressing it with the rigors of quick twitch first step moves on the hot corner. If he were to rush back, he risks a chronic heel wound, or complete Achilles’ tendon rupture.
  10. Seems like a good deal—I don’t think two year contracts can ever be bad for a team. Who gets bumped from the 40 man? This should balance our line up a bit too.
  11. I think his full name is ‘AL Comeback Player of the Year’ Michael Pineda.
  12. Span is also married to a gal from MN. Just saying...
  13. I understand the trend of not paying free agents huge dollars for past performance that they almost certainly will not continue to provide into their 30’s, when a team can pay players in their first 6 years almost nothing for similar performance. That said, now that the bottom has fallen out of the free agent market, why not sign an MLB player for our OF? Why must we debate between three flawed, marginal upside players for the 4th spot? We don’t even need the player to be a plus defender, since Rosario and Kepler can play CF too. Here are four players I would rather have on the roster than Granite, Cave, or Reed: Adam Jones, CarGo, Marwin, Denard Span
  14. Adam Jones will play RF. Kepler in CF. Buxton will be our 4th OF.
  15. I think 1 year/$14 million is way more than he will get, coming off a bad year with loss of velocity. Maybe 1 year/$9 million, or two years/$16 million are more realistic. That said, I’m not advocating the Pohlads save money. Please, go ahead and bring in good players to make our team better!
  16. Is this some kind of split contract? Or do we cut Adrianza if he doesn’t look great in the Spring?
  17. MLBTR predicts McCutchen (and Brantley, FWIW) get 3 years/$45 million. I would be just fine with McCutchen as part time corner outfielder, part time DH.
  18. Kirilloff and Lewis both look like they are going to fly up the national prospect rankings. Let’s hope they can sustain this level of success.
