  1. I think Wimmers still might have a shot to do a little bit in the MLB. I don't think he's completely cooked yet. We'll see.
  2. Thrylos, there you go, confusing the conversation with silly things like facts! You should be ashamed! I think it is pretty telling that Desmond hasn't signed yet and is being marketed as some sort of super utility player. It would be nice to add him as a depth piece, but I don't think he'd be willing to sign in that capacity. I'd rather just role with EE at SS. Escobar is not going to be an all-star, but he's proved that he can handle the position and that he is more than solid when given regular at bats. I'm hoping the Twins just stick to what they have with him for the season.
  3. Howard and Zimmerman have both sent letters demanding a retraction to this report. I'm guessing not much happens there. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/sports/wp/2015/12/29/attorneys-for-ryan-zimmerman-ryan-howard-send-letters-to-al-jazeera-america-demanding-retraction/ Teagarden is a different story though. He's on camera admitting to using Delta-2 and peptides, so I'd have to think he's probably going to get a suspension.
  4. I went to spring training for the first time last year. We stayed in Ft. Myers Beach, which is kind of fun, but the traffic is really bad. There are really only bridges on either end of the island to get on and off, and the main bridge always seems to be backed up with traffic. It was a good compromise though as my girlfriend didn't want to only baseball activities. Ft. Myers Beach is very touristy. Lots of shops selling little trinkets and things. Just south of there is Lover's Key State Park, where we did some kayaking, which was fun. We got to see some manatees up close, which was pretty amazing. Definitely worth checking out. We went to two games at Hammond, and just bought the tickets from the Twins website before we got there. There are kiosks out front where you can pick up the tickets. We also swung by on our way to the airport to check out some minor league games. It was free that day because the big league team was playing elsewhere that day. You can get really up close to watch those games. At one point, I was going back and for between two games as Buxton was at bat on one field, and Sano was at bat on the next field over. It was pretty awesome. The minor leagues games also provide the chance to get some really great pictures:
  5. We don't know that the Twins did not make an offer. I'm not saying that they did make one, but there is no evidence either way. I would bet that TR spoke to Jocketty a few times this offseason. What they discussed, who knows. But there is an assumption out there that no discussion ever took place, which may or may not be true. We don't know. The Twins FO is generally keep things very internal and we often don't hear much until a deal is pretty much done. As for Chapman, I love the talent, but these allegations are very disturbing. I wouldn't want him anywhere my team for that reason.
  6. I went to a baseball game in Tokyo back in 2010, and they had nets pretty much right up to 1st/3rd base. I don't think that the baseballs are hit any harder in Japan, but they felt the need to put up the nets. This really isn't an attention issue for me though. If a ball is hit on a line drive at 100mph, it will travel 70 feet in under half a second, and those are the people that are farthest away and still protected by the net. I'm all for paying attention to the game, but many people don't have those kinds of reflexes.
  7. MLB trade rumors is now reporting that the Chapman deal is not complete yet, and that other teams are still in the mix. Curious. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/12/reds-trade-aroldis-chapman-dodgers.html
  8. Yeah. He definitely would have looked good in a Twins uniform next season. We'll have to see what the Dodgers gave up for him.
  9. I agree. Grienke's season last year was amazing. He's one of the best, but he might even have a hard time duplicating what he did last year. I agree with you about the Twins making a run at Iwakuma. I would have loved that move, but too late now.
  10. True. That is if they decide to trade him now, or wait until the July deadline. They have that luxury. Also, there may be a team that wants to upgrade at 3rd without giving up as much as what might be needed to get Frazier.
  11. Very true. Iwakuma isn't exactly a slouch though. Technically a downgrade for them, but not that much of a downgrade in my opinion.
  12. I went with undecided. There is far too much off season left to actually predict what might happen next year. There could still be some major roster moves for every team in the Central.
  13. I'd put my money on that happening around May.
  14. You are correct. They won't necessarily go before an arbitrator. As I mentioned before, they have until the arbitration hearing is complete to negotiate a deal. Tendering a contract to a player, is the same as saying the team is willing to go through the arbitration process to keep that player around. I'm not sure what the conversation has turned to here. The original question was whether the player could reject the team tendering a contract to them. The answer is no the play cannot reject it and become a free agent. I don't know how the QO thing got built into this conversation. That is a separate thing that does not apply to Fien being tendered a contract. As far as Fien goes, I don't think tendering him a contract is the worst thing. I have to agree with others that he shouldn't be the 8th inning guy, but he does have some upside if he's more of a 6th inning guy.
  15. Or confusing the qualifying offer system to the old system with type A and type B free agents. Under that system, players could decline arbitration offers, and the team would get draft compensation, but this system has been replaced with the qualifying offer. That system still wouldn't have applied to Fien though, as the service time requirements did not change.
  16. This doesn't have anything to do with the qualifying offer. That is only for players that are pending free agents (minimum of 6 years of service time). Tendering a contract just means that the player will receive a contract from the team that owns his rights (under 6 years of service time). There does not need to be an actual dollar amount at that time. The team and the player can negotiate a salary. This will lead to the beginning of the arbitration process. They can negotiate up until an arbitrator makes a salary ruling, which would be binding. So, tendering a contract is the start of the process.
  17. He was offered a contract. If they can't reach an agreement, then it will go to arbitration, where the Twins and Fien will both submit an offer, and a neutral arbitrator will decide who's salary number is more accurate based on Fien's previous performance. Whatever number the arbitrator picks will be Fien's salary for the year, and he cannot reject it and become a free agent.
  18. Well, this is one way to reduce the amount of strike outs for Twins batters in 2016.
  19. Not to mention that Mauer already had one surgically repaired knee that wasn't exactly making him fleet of foot.
  20. I don't know that they will try to trade Suzuki. Suzuki has some value as a backup catcher. I'm expecting another trade or outrighting one of the more fringe 40-man players. I think Jeremy has the right idea of what will probably happen.
  21. This. Exactly this. I believe that Sano to the OF is TR's plan. I also don't think that he'll turn down a good offer for Plouffe. I also think that TR's just planning on not getting a good offer Plouffe, that's all.
  22. The Korean team didn't have to let him leave. They could have just kept him if they wanted, and he wouldn't get his chance to play in the MLB until next year. So, they're actually doing Park a favor by getting him paid more than he would have made in the KBO.
  23. I am excited about this deal. Congrats to everyone involved. I'm excited to see Park blasting HRs out of Target Field in 2016.
