  1. Performance expectations aside, where/when are you playing Wallner? Neither he nor Bell should see the field, and Bell is a switch hitter who's a little better against RHP. Playing time isn't really an issue for Wallner at this point, but if you're committed to getting him PAs then you're either sitting Bell (which is a massive waste of a roster spot) or you're putting one of them in the field where each is a liability.
  2. This is "handed out the largest FA contract in team history," vibes, and it's, ya know, Phil Hughes. If you strip away any and all context then sure, more $$ spent at the deadline sounds great...
  3. There were two articles released within an hour of each other today praising the Twins' spending and claiming that ownership delivered on promises. If adding $9M (while also giving up a better prospect for $$ savings lolol) to a ridiculously low payroll elicits these types of articles then yeah, I'll stand by what I said; ownership has set the bar so low that segments of this fan base will celebrate crumbs. The "boos," have garnered multiple downvotes littered across different posts, particularly in the "delivered on promises," article, but hey, I guess I'm the one compartmentalizing here. I can't possibly put myself out there and get hurt again.
  4. Previous deadlines where they did nothing, I mean c'mon... The bar was literally so low that anything above a solo Trevor Richards acquisition was an improvement. Also, the poor roster construction meant they couldn't add more $$, i.e. better players? Huh? Who greenlit this roster, and set the payroll? That's a pretty self-defeating argument, no?
  5. Just in case anybody doubts the level to which this fan base has been conditioned by ownership and at times media... The adulation for a couple low wattage moves is wild....
  6. These types of claims make this place hard to stomach at times...
  7. Fair. I think any of Cleveland, MN, or the Sox would be fighting for 3rd place in any NL division. Can I quantify that? No chance.
  8. How steep? Idk. I do know the Twins are 12-21 vs. the NL this season, so I have a hard time plugging their record directly into the NL WC chase or vice versa.
  9. We're 70% of the way through the season and the Twins are 1 game back of Cleveland for the final WC spot. Two things can be true at once; the Twins can be a massively flawed team and still have a very realistic shot at the postseason.
  10. What are they pretending to be? They've been the same team all year; inconsistent or streaky, lacking some talent in specific areas, and being floated by a really bad AL, in particular the ALC. The last point is unlikely to change.
  11. There's a small, albeit vocal, segment of the fan base that genuinely believes the Twins "ruined," Royce Lewis. They're not going to find fault with him, hence the mental gymnastics to defend what was a painfully obvious mental lapse.
  12. "The Twins are still bottom 5 in bullpen ERA." Look at the names you're listing; Tommy Nance, Travis ****ing Adams, Jack Anderson. That's the definition of "enormous question marks." Even Gomez, how sure are we that this is a reliable version of him? Not that I'm expecting immediate regression into a pumpkin, but Jorge Lopez was un-hittable for 4 months of the 2022 season. This bullpen still needs serious help if the team is at all serious about competing. As far as acquiring a back end starter goes, May is a couple starts away from surpassing his career high in IP. Performance aside, Idk how many more innings he can reasonably be expected to eat. SInger? Pass. Just let Zebby try to figure it out at that point, and I'm saying this a someone who isn't necessarily the biggest Zebby fan. Don't waste prospects on washed rentals. Ray is the only name mentioned that's likely a clear upgrade. His home/away splits are kinda concerning but he'd probably start game 3 of a playoff series if the postseason began tomorrow.
  13. What's the controversy here? Has Bradley not been a much better pitcher this season? I mean c'mon, you're acting like the mob is calling for Zebby to get DFA'd. He's going to get every opportunity to show that he isn't a 5+ ERA guy, but he doesn't get credit for something he hasn't done.
  14. I know he has options. Sending him to AAA to start next season kills whatever value he might have left outside of MN, and honestly having him in AAA isn't valuable. If the Twins don't see room for him on the 2027 active roster, i.e. he isn't one of the 13 best position players in the org after 5+ seasons, then he's Matt Wallner, at which point the options are borderline irrelevant. You might as well just sell at this deadline. Also, Idk why you'd pay $3-4M for 1B depth at AAA, that seems like a pretty poor allocation of resources too.
  15. If you're hanging onto him then he's staying on the active roster right? What is he figuring out in AAA, and if the Twins are planning to replace him at 1B, what's the point of hanging onto him?
  16. Normally I can't stand the Manfred runner but today is the rare exception. That game probably never ends without a runner starting at 2B. Putrid offense from both sides. Also, am I losing my mind or was Arias absolutely dogging it to 1B that last inning? Brutal if that's the case...
  17. I might've taken the under on 13 runs scored all series by Cleveland. They're an abysmal offensive club and that's what I expect to see from them the rest of the series.
  18. Do you honestly believe Duran flipping off the crowd was going to go unnoticed? Do TD writers/owners/authors "suck," when they're critical of the team or individual players?
  19. That's your takeaway from the interaction? Tough look for the media member?
  20. Yeah, changes have been made, and I wish I could believe that was a new organizational directive, but I think Matt Wallner is still allowed to be a butcher in RF if he's putting up offensive numbers similar to last season. I also very much doubt Royce is playing 1B if he doesn't completely crash out either. Credit where it's due for moving Keaschall though. I'm out on rentals. I feel like the return won't be that big if guys like GG or Rojas are headlining the deal, but I'm not a prospect hound, nor do I really get into the weeds with hypothetical swaps. Idk if 16 more games tell us anything we don't already know about this team.
  21. Does a better relief arm(s) at the 2023 deadline change the postseason outcome? Who and where are they adding in 2024 that's non-periphery? LF I guess? That would've been a platoon role though. SP? Ok, but they had tremendous pitching health/production that season. Did "right sizing," hurt this club? No doubt, it's less cushion to work with, but poor roster construction and "running it back," alongside a "core," group that flopped hard probably has more to do with the woes.
  22. I'm not telling you something you don't already know, but we're talking about a playoff field of 4 vs 12 teams. You can still enjoy the remainder of the season after shrewd moves are made right? The "anything can happen," mentality is what has kept this team locked into mediocrity or worse for the last few years.
  23. It's literally that simple. I don't understand why people are twisting themselves into pretzels to rationalize this team intentionally handicapping themselves.
