  1. the Lemon-Berry slush is pretty awesome, and I like the onion rings even if (or maybe because) they are pretty greasy. Beyond that, you aren't missing anything.
  2. That's actually my May-Sep progression over that time, not my '10 - '15 progression.
  3. I was hoping for at least a little improvement again, like maybe striking out on 5 pitches this time. No such luck.
  4. Twins to the White Sox prior to the bottom of the 4th: "As you can see, we have something to work on. Do you think you could help us out for an inning?" "Sure, be glad to."
  5. I wasn't too pleased with the call. either. I yelled at the TV, but the ump wasn't swayed.
  6. I guess Bert wanted to make sure every single one of his own starts could be called at least a 9.
  7. The transition out of is never the problem. They need to work on the transition into. (For Nunez it should be transition into Rochester or the waiver wire, but that's hard to do while he's batting 1.000.)
  8. He looked a lot more like Blackburn/Humber than the multi-year contract guy today, but that's also what he looked like the last time the Twins signed him to a multi-year contract, so I'm not going to try to predict.
  9. You are a horrible procrastinator. If you were a good one, you'd be waiting until Wednesday night and then filing for an extension because you couldn't finish.
  10. It seems I remember from last year he lost about 5 mph off his fastball and stopped getting people out. If that has continued this spring, I'd rather have him hunt for the magic fastball pixie dust in Rochester. If he finds it he'll get another chance (unless this team outperforms expectations in a big way, in which case we won't care if he gets another shot or not.)
  11. I agree. Hopefully it lights a fire (although I think the big issue was facing Price, not the lack of fire.) As long as Torii isn't surprised by the fine, I have no issue either. He was upset by the call, he lashed out, he'll get fined and life will go on. As someone already said, he will still be able to feed the family. He probably sees the fine as a worthwhile investment.
  12. That's an interesting idea. You might have to let someone have a bad year, but maybe anyone in the bottom x% two years in a row. That could lead to some taunting from the fans - "hey Joe, this ain't Rochester, but if you keep it up, next year it will be."
  13. I think I picked the wrong one of your posts to reply to after I read through the list. I was just trying to confirm/support something you had said. gil4 (just another USAF MSgt (Ret) and overall pain in the behind.)
  14. More from rule 9:02 comment: Appeals on a half swing may be made only on the call of ball and when asked to appeal, the home plate umpire must refer to a base umpire for his judgment on the half swing. Should the base umpire call the pitch a strike, the strike call shall prevail. That was a change a few years back. ("A few" can be relative - I don't remember exactly when they changed it.) NFHS and most others still say the plate umpire has the option, but MLB rules (and those that use MLB rules as their core, such as Babe Ruth leagues*) specify the plate umpire must ask if the appeal is made. * - I last umpired Babe Ruth league 30 years ago, so this might have changed. Their rulebook was essentially by-laws modifying MLB rules (changes mainly dealing with substitution rules and league structure.)
  15. Rule 9.02© Comment: ... The manager or the catcher may request the plate umpire to ask his partner for help on a half swing when the plate umpire calls the pitch a ball, but not when the pitch is called a strike. Joe West should not have called it a swing unless he definitely saw a swing, but once he did call it a swing, that was the ballgame. Note - this was from the 2013 rules because that's the last version I have downloaded, but I doubt it has changed. I know the updated rules are online, but the PDF is easier to search.
  16. If you just say so up front 'm sure plenty of us would be glad to help you out with that.
  17. Call me crazy (and I'm sure a dozen or so will gladly do so), but I'd still take a flyer on Baker
  18. Chief - I was assuming you were the one he met.
  19. Made me laugh first, then it scared the hell out of me. Everyone is a role model. Some people are just bad ones.
  20. I didn't see the game, but I had seen enough already. In order to justify that glove, he needs to hit a lot. He doesn't.
  21. With the 12-man pitching staffs (and sometimes 13) there just aren't enough roster spots to keep both sides of a platoon. The RH batter in the platoon just doesn't get enough AB in a strict platoon. If both make the team, they will likely designate one the starting CF and the other the 4th OF, and Hicks will likely get his rest days vs. RHP, Schaeffer will get his rest days vs. LHP. In order to give the corner OF days off both will get ABs against the non-platoon pitching. It's a semi platoon, but lots of people have talked about this arrangement. I think the one concern is Hicks will have to hit RHP in order to have a useful career. Do we keep him in the majors and limit his exposure or do we send him to AAA, give him ABs both ways, and hope he progresses some more?
  22. If Arcia becomes an average outfielder I will be thrilled. As it stands, he tries to make up for his lack of range with bad routes and stone hands, and for some reason it's not working very well. It's not hopeless and we have seen comparable defenders turn it around (Plouffe), but right now average is a goal, not the present condition.
  23. That's some powerful rust. His two HRs were amazing. Hopefully we see him up before September. (I think he only had two - vs. Pirates and Cards)
  24. No kidding. I saw my life flash before my eyes just thinking about it.
  25. I'm not sure. If he's like his old man (and I don't really think he is) we'd take the wallet but leave the personality. I guess it might be fun to have a remake of you're fired/you're hired Lite beer commercials with Gardy taking Billy Martin's role.
