  1. Can't we just call him up, let him tell a joke only on double-header days, then send him right back down to the Rochester site? (Just kidding Chief. I like your jokes, but I like taking cheap shots more.)
  2. No hope for good news there, unless they find a way for both teams to lose twice.
  3. Maybe they think "I better hit the target, because if I make him move his glove a foot it's going to the backstop." I've seen catchers like that while umpiring. It's always a painful day.
  4. I agree - I read "non-zero chance to stay at catcher" as "it's not zero, but it's close to it."
  5. My guess is he would hit around .202, with an OBP around .289, slugging .266, OPS .556. Maybe slightly lower OBP (big strike zone), slightly higher slugging. He would probably put more fans in the seats than Tebow, and that's saying something, but if you're trying to win and you're determined to sign a basketball player, Tracy McGrady might be the way to go. (If an NFL player is close enough, apparently Colin Kapernick can bring some heat.)
  6. Since "all the other crap" is most of what we discuss here, I'd say there's at least a few crazies who care about it. I'm sure we all agree the we hope he blows them away (and uses the experience as a springboard to dominate AAA, then gets called back up and had a long and productive MLB career. And always beats the team we acquired him from.)
  7. I hope we had him change his name to throw off the teams drafting ahead of us.
  8. Amazing save by Caps' goaltender. Vegas is not going quietly.
  9. Nicely done folks! Buddy - time for another walk!
  10. That didn't take long. At least we don't have to lose another low-scoring 1-run game tonight. I'm taking the dog for a walk. Y'all better work at cutting into the lead while I'm out.
  11. I prefer it when the expansion teams take their lumps for a few years while the city is just happy to have a team. The New Orleans Saints having their first winning season in year 21 might have been a bit extreme, but maybe a five-year build to semi-contention is fine. The Cup still hasn't come to Minnesota and you want Vegas to get it in year 1? Go Caps! (They have suffered an appropriate amount of pain.)
  12. Your mention of the Hardy/Gomez trade reminds me of one that was not understandable - Hardy/Hoey. Still not forgiven.
  13. Maybe the Twins can really practice a lot so when time resumes its normal progress they will be awesome. Or maybe they will just spend their time partying and killing people without consequences (since it's all wiped out in the morning).. As long as they get Hawk Harrelson a few times, that would be OK.
  14. Great write-up as usual. (I don't say it enough.) I vote yes on the new prospect summary. What is the "temporary inactive" list? (What are the criteria for using it.) I never thought I'd be envious of someone getting to go to Cedar Rapids for a few days, but... Have a great time.
  15. He was exactly number 5 for me, if you mean of those who had a realistic chance to catch it. (Garver was #6)
  16. I agree, although I have seen some un-framing that has worked the opposite way, especially with catchers sitting too far back losing strikes on low pitches. That (hypothetical) curveball might have been a strike, but it sure doesn't look like one when you short-hop it.
  17. She's thinking "I know he's not the greatest player in the world, but that $12M can pay a lot of child support." (I'm guessing you make slightly less than that.) Picturing Eddie Murphy way back in the day: (singing) "There's nothing going on but the rent. You've got to have a J-O-B if you want to be with me." (Paraphrasing now) Women love that song, but it's so cold-blooded. "Hey baby, what's going on?" "THE RENT. That's what's going on. You got a job yet? ..."
  18. It tells about the same story, actually. Grossman was good two years ago, average last year, and horrible this year. Carter was horrible last year, average in 2015, and above average in 2012-2014 and 2016. WAR tells a similar story. Both are adequate subs based on decent oWAR and terrible dWAR. Carter's dWAR is worse than Grossman's, if you can imagine that possibility. Carter is almost 3 years older than Grossman, so the career-ending cliff is probably closer and it might already be behind him. For the record, I failed the pop quiz.
  19. Sounds like bilateral neck soreness to me. (Someone had to say it.) I love Mauer, but he gets the weirdest injuries.
  20. Is the lead Rodney-proof? It sure better be.
  21. Well, at least we had to play 12 innings in order to have Buxton K. Baby steps.
