Ah, I envy you. I've made that trip many times myself. Always a blast. Here are some tips to help ensure things go smoothly: 1. Be Frugal: If some wise ass general store clerk tries to get into your head with some enigmatic ox to yoke conversion rate, just tell him to go fly a kite. 2. Family Planning: Do you have kids? Not anymore. Now, you have Dysentery. Start saying your goodbyes. 3. Hazards: As I'm sure you know, you're going to cross a river or two (or six LOL). Don't bother packing a raft. There's always going to be one lying around when you need it. 4. Hygiene: I recommend ~15 pounds of soap for the trip. If you're going by the book, it's advised that you bring 25 lbs, but if it's just you and your wife...don't sweat it. Anyway, you won't need that much because you'll more than likely die of exhaustion anyway...and cholera. 5. Recreation: You're going to want to do some hunting on your way out there. DO NOT kill more than you can fit on your wagon. Or do. Whatever, I guess. It'll be the highlight of your trip. Happy trails!
