  1. Yeah, no kidding ... he's quite the tease, eh?
  2. Welcome! And don't be afraid to ask questions ... but be prepared for a wide variety of answers as we all seem to have a little different take on things!
  3. Always have extra hard copies of your resume, references, whatever; and have them organized and ready to give out; ask if they need it. Be yourself and be honest; you won't be happy if they hire you for someone you tried to be and aren't; be confident but don't oversell yourself; practice in a mirror answering the generic typical questions. Put yourself in the interviewer's seat ... what would you want to know/ask and be prepared to answer those questions ... again, in a mirror, out loud; or with a friend. My favorite questions to ask are why here, why THIS position, what do you hope to get out of it, and the situational type question ... give me an example of a stressful situation you experienced and how you handled it ... and the stressful situation being work-related and not personal. Do your research! As much as you can ... about the company specifically and about the industry.
  4. Lol ... I wasn't going to admit that one publicly ... oops, wait, er, uhhh ...
  5. Yes ... but we are on 44 today ... tomorrow ... 43 ...
  6. That picture should have been used for yesterday and for today
  7. I don't think the minor league spring training schedule has been released yet.
  8. Isn't I-75/Daniels east of ballpark? West would be towards US41 (Cleveland/Tamiami). But there are hotels off Daniels east and west, and, as Thrylos said, likely not a budget whichever direction; especially at this point. You might find more of a bargain further north up 41 (Cleveland Ave), even across the river into N Ft Myers, but you will most definitely need a car unless you want to figure out the bus system, which does exist, but isn't so convenient.
  9. If these are goals you hope are achieved and they are, that is success. It's just not the ultimate success. Personally I agree with most everyone's points ... I want to see a lot more wins, I want to see at least a chase for a playoff spot, I want to see Mauer's transition to 1st be great, I want to see Pinto take the starting job, I want to see Hicks figure it out, I want to see Arcia progress, I want to see Dozier continue on his path, I want to see room made appropriately for Sano's and Meyer's debuts, I want to see Florimon and Correia not utterly suck. Hopefully most of these things happen and if they do, I will consider the season a success. I'll let you know in October.
  10. What sorts of things are you looking to do? If you are a golfer, I can't help you with that other than I know there are courses around. But there are several parks/preserves in the area that are good to go to. In some cases you can rent bikes or kayaks and explore on your own, or take advantage of guided tours. Sanibel Island offers quite a bit to do including Segway tours, dolphin cruises, the Ding Darling Refuge, the Shell Museum, etc. And of course there's the Edison and Ford Winter Estates. And the most obvious ... baseball and beaches.
  11. Ack! Now that my folks are year-rounders, I was looking forward to games there ... would they go up to City of Palms? (Would be the most likely, I would think.) As for ST, I'll be there 9-24 Mar. At least that is the plan today. Had a pet sitting snafu that might make me alter those plans. If I make it, it will make 14 in a row I've attended to some degree; and about ... 18-19(?) over all. Am looking forward to seeing the 'finished' stadium, at least finished from this phase.
  12. I had a tough time ranking that list and wanted to make everything #1. While I wouldn't put it as #1, the ALCS celebration at the Dome in '87 was an awesome moment. As soon as we heard it announced my roommate and I dashed over there and were close to the front of the crowd that just kept coming. When they opened the doors we knew exactly where we wanted to be and made a dash and were right rows over the dugout. That crowd was amazing, the spirit of it, the camaraderie. Heh, and to think my roommate and I wondered if very many people would show up as we were dashing over there.
  13. Again, it's a contextual thing. But whether or not you or I find it individually funny or sad really isn't the point. A lot of 'humour' I let slide, but sometimes a 'joke' needs to be removed not for the joke itself, but because of the responses it elicits, responses that quickly can derail a thread to a 'far off-topic land.'
  14. In what context? Quite honestly as a stand-alone statement I read it more as tragic and sad. Are you asking 'Would this be deleted?' Again, in what context?
  15. Here's another article. Interesting. http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2014/02/hoffman-and-the-terrible-heroin-deaths-in-the-shadows/283533/
  16. There are no absolutes, which makes moderating difficult. All I can say for myself is that I try to keep a few things in mind ... context, intent, tone, poster history; it's certainly not a literal, word by word approach. Even with all that it's still difficult but we all try to remain fair and consistent even if it doesn't always seem so. Also, each of us is only human and sometimes we misread a situation, which is why our collective discussions are ongoing and endless. Mostly what we want for and from the community is respect, even if you abhor another poster's POV, so that we can have the best discussions possible.
  17. heh ... not a very active game thread.
  18. My thought was 'yeeesh ... no kidding!'
  19. It seems to be okay this morning. If it happens again, I'll screen shoot it and email you. But what was happening wasn't allowing me to navigate the site at all ... it darkened out/dimmed the site and highlighted the ad so you couldn't do anything but select the ad. And refreshing the screen didn't help ... same thing would happen. However, as I said, seems fine this morning so I'll carry on.
  20. Yep, ditto here, too, on my iPhone 4s, in case that matters, but doubt it.
  21. Punta Gorda has an airport, too ... Allegiant Air flies into there. It's an airline that services smaller communities such as Duluth or Cedar Rapids or Rockford, IL. It's a smaller airport so is much less hassle. My sister flies in and out of there from Burlington, VT. Also, there IS a public transit system in Ft. Myers. It just isn't as convenient as I don't think it runs quite as often as it would in a large city. But there is a bus service and there is a stop on Plantation Rd not far from the stadium. Again, since I drive when I'm there, I really don't know how/when they operate, but it's not non-existent. Biking is also a good alternative if you aren't coming from too far and like to bike. There are off-street pathways everywhere. And traffic is VERY heavy in March. I'm not sure what you think 'not so bad' is ... and I'm comparing it to where I live most of the year ... Chicago. Also, the 'rumor' is (I heard this from friends who live in 'the Fort,') that Ft. Myers Beach is 'sold out' for the season. I wouldn't stay there anyway as getting in and out of there this time of year is next to impossible and not so convenient if you want to spend time at the ballpark ... or visit anywhere else in the area for that matter. As far as where to stay, hotels are fine, but look into renting a condo, especially if you are staying a week or more. They are plentiful and allow for more space and save from eating every meal out. Most condos are set up to sleep 6 so the cost can be shared if you want to go in with some friends.
  22. The system seems to flag posts from time to time. There really isn't a rhyme or reason to it, so it's not a 'new person' thing that will go away over time. The moderators do check this out on a daily basis and manually 'approve' these posts. Sorry for the inconvenience. Perhaps someone more technically savvy could give you a better answer, but it doesn't have anything to do with being 'reported.' You'd get a note from one of us if that were the case.
  23. Well, yes, okay ... it's not PC. But as a female, I consider the source, roll my eyes a little, and move on. But there is truth to it. I mean, as into the game as I am, I can't help but let my binoculars wander a bit and sigh a little over the lusciousness that is Brian Dozier. But it's not why I'm at the game. If it were a field of women, what would the male response be?
  24. Moderator note: Some of you need to tone down the rhetoric. Every thread here does not need to break down into the Twins not spending according to how you think they should, nor do we need to question the 'balls' of our GM ... you can find better ways to express and argue your points than with disgruntled nothingness.
