  1. Sadder yet is those who publicly support him. And the media that gives him coverage because of ratings and not what is right. Trump is Hitler incarnate. He is feeding on the ignorance, complacency and fear that this country has become, and not what it was built on.
  2. We've had some discussion on Gray in other threads; here are the links: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/20667-sonny-gray/?hl=sonny http://twinsdaily.com/topic/20533-article-chasing-an-ace/ To everyone else, please don't jack the thread.
  3. Please stick to the topic. Thanks.
  4. While the translation is similar/the same, they aren't the same. Pebernodder are more like shortbread. A very 'melt in your mouth' buttery cookie made with a hint of white pepper in the dough.
  5. I proclaim it pebernodder day! (Those are gallon-sized storage bags, btw)
  6. Um ... that doesn't work for me on any level.
  7. Quit making assumptions, Mike. Please. Who said he was allowed? Just because you don't see what gets said to others privately doesn't mean it doesn't happen. As for you being warned ... you weren't. I PM'd you and asked you about it, politely. I asked, I didn't warn. And then suggested maybe you not do it that while harmless, it could signal to others to do something more intentionally and worse. And, for the record, you told me that it wasn't you, but autocorrect and you left it because you thought it was funny. So, it wasn't even your cleverness. As for Vikings Journal, take it up with the moderators there. While it has the same owners, it's a completely different site with a different vibe.
  8. Another for undecided. First, I'm just not good at prognosticating. Second, I don't know who will be the team yet and where they will play. Third, I'm just not good at expectations ... too much and it breaks my heart. So ... I'll go with whatever comes my way. Go Twins!
  9. Baking is easier than cooking. It's more of an exact science. Just follow the recipe exactly and it turns out. However, you do have to keep an eye on the oven because baking times can vary from oven to oven. And if you don't have a convection oven, you need turn your cookie sheets around half-way through the baking time and/or move them to a different rack. But if you do try the peanut blossom cookies using mini peanut butter cups (I use Trader Joe dark chocolate pb cups when I do this and they. are. AMAZING!), you need to let them set before removing them from the tins or the chocolate will run out.
  10. One article I read ... and I admit to not having read much today ... said the FBI weren't yet calling it that as they have a very specific definition of when it's terrorism. Have they now said such?
  11. I have a ginger cookie recipe that uses freshly grated ginger ... talk about snap to a cookie! Those things have some kick! I haven't made shortbread in a long time, but I do a little bit of a variation. The tradition in my family are pebernodder, which is essentially made from a shortbread dough ... butter, flour, a little sugar ... but the variation is a little white pepper. Awesome! I like to bake.
  12. I make the most amazing snickerdoodles. That said, no, I will not be baking you any and sending them to you. Also ... Blossom cookies? Do you mean peanut butter blossoms? The ones with a Kiss in the middle? If so, I have a variation on that you should try. You roll the cookie dough in balls and bake them and as soon as they come out of the oven, you put a Kiss in the middle ... instead ... try this ... after you roll them in balls, put them in mini muffin tins, bake as usual, and as soon as they come out, press a mini peanut butter cup into the middle. Amazing! You have a mini peanut butter cookie peanut butter cup blossom cookie.
  13. Rail Baron, baby! Yeehaaaa!
  14. Paul Ryan is despicable, and yet I know many who likely think as he does. Their rants are so hypocritical.
  15. Christmas cookies. Tis the season. What are your favorite traditional holiday treats? Has baking begun in earnest? Baking has begun in my home ... maybe not in earnest yet ... but has begun.
  16. While giving thanks is always good for what we have and maybe even take for granted, in honor of National Roof Over Your Head Day donate to Habitat for Humanity, or your local homeless shelter, or volunteer at one.
  17. I was trying to be ... fair? Unbiased? (Even though I'm not really)
  18. Absolutely and amen. Yes. Part of the problem in talking solutions, is people right away people start characterizing others' suggestions in terms of absolutes, i.e. 'we want better/stricter gun laws' becomes 'we want to take all your guns away.' It's not going to be a swift and easy turnaround, but the propaganda machines on both sides aren't helping with any proposed solutions.
  19. Yup. My 'shock' wasn't so much that it wasn't a lot of money, I just thought the market would set it higher.
  20. Here's an interesting article. I don't know the source, but I trust the person who posted it ... very bright, very reasonable, and someone who really looks to all sides in discussions, and not someone I agree with on everything. It's filled with all kinds of charts and graphs and such. Some very interesting data to note, none of which is truly surprising. Conclude what you will. http://www.vox.com/2015/8/24/9183525/gun-violence-statistics "But America's relationship with guns is unique in another crucial way: Among developed nations, the US is far and away the most violent — in large part due to the easy access many Americans have to firearms."
  21. And it's doubtful that will happen, and we are back to doing nothing. This is part of the hopelessness I see in the situation.
  22. The police here have said that. But as I said earlier, any laws regarding gun legislation MUST be national. State by state doesn't work. Especially not here.
  23. That's one of the reasons the police here are so frustrated. Even they have said they want stricter laws. Well, the ousted chief said that ... but let's not go down that path, that's a separate issue. Life is just so ****ed up.
  24. I don't know, really. But it seems to me we do need to address ownership first and foremost. And yes, it might mean turning in your guns, but it should also mean very strict penalties, too. And these laws just cannot be state by state. Most of the guns that come into Chicago come in from states with greater accessibility. And maybe this is a spit in the ocean, or whatever analogy you want to use, but we can argue all we want about what will work and won't, but we won't know until we do it and until we allow for time to achieve it. Sigh.
  25. Thanks, Seth. As a moderator, I just want to add that I've been seeing a lot of disrespect floating around ... Ryan lied, Ryan's stupid, the Twins are cheap, etc. You may have strong feelings one way or another about how this team is run; I know I do, and I've stated it many times over the years so it's no secret. But let's be better in our rebuttals and disagreements and not go this easy route. For me, I was shocked at what Park signed for. But he signed it, and his agent worked this deal as much as Ryan. Maybe Park wanted out of Korea and would have taken anything and Ryan knew that? Don't know, and neither do you. Maybe it's truly a fair deal and only time will tell. So when you start making assumptions and stating opinions, be clear about that and leave the disrespect behind.
