  1. And a lead-off walk to start the game ...
  2. He's benched because he's bruised and sore from running into the wall the other day. They are giving him a couple days rest. That makes sense to me.
  3. I know we've had this discussion months and months ago, back in the beginnings of this thread, and I know that some don't consider voting 'partisan' because of court nominations a priority, but being female, it's a huge deal for me, considering that the court itself has become more and more partisan in regards to issues of equality and health care. I wish that it weren't so, and that presidents and the Senate would look beyond that to appoint the fairest, best out there. But I'm just not willing to risk it and vote for a President or a Senator that are outside the Democratic party, period, because I've lived with the consequences of conservative policies that do not treat women and minorities equally. I'm not sure if that makes me part of this extreme partisanship problem, and I do really try to examine that from time to time, but I am that scared about these issues and the misogyny and bigotry that comes out of the woodwork, from people you least expect it, whenever these issues are discussed. And I will stop and take the time to explain to anyone, face to face, or otherwise, why this is so important to me in hopes of making them think, even just a little, that an individual's vote does have purpose, that it is that important, that it could make a lasting difference positively or negatively. I grew up in the middle of a very political family and involvement and awareness were never a question or a choice, so my ... sensitivities? ... towards politics are a bit heightened. The one thing, though, I do have to remind myself of, is don't engage those who truly out in the deepest parts of left or right field, as they are just going to do what they are going to do regardless.
  4. Listening to the Guns n Roses concert for a second time this week. They are playing a concert at Soldier Field and I can hear the concert from my balcony. While it's not the same as being there, glad I didn't spend the money to go hear it live because I'm hearing it live for free. So much for the ordinance that concerts conclude by 11pm at night, but whatever ... I'm not working tomorrow. But I am playing tennis at 8am.
  5. Both of you ... stop it ... this is a game thread and the game is over. If you want to discuss the nuances of managing/coaching, and when a player has discretion, then start a thread and discuss it respectfully without pointing fingers of 'you just don't understand' when someone has a different take. Agree to disagree here and move on.
  6. Yup ... hair of the dog.
  7. Yaah, you betchya ... tree games dat dey coult handle.
  8. Um, lurking? I started the thread and have posted here and there. So not lurking. Just not constantly posting.
  9. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! CHICKEN DINNERS FOR ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I'm 2 for 2 with game thread starts!
  10. I don't care. If it worked it was worth it.
  11. ack! I can't take this. Tell me when it's over.

  13. GET!!! HIM!!! OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Overturned ... okay then ... keep it going, Twins ...
  15. Jepsen discussion can move to here: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/23087-article-what-was-your-favorite-kevin-jepsen-moment/
  16. Okay ... all true here ... Rosario up, Jepsen out ... http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/07/twins-designate-kevin-jepsen-for-assignment.html
  17. Okay, then ... guess we were both ... wondering out loud not right ...
  18. Yeah ... I don't really either ... just wondering out loud ... since the lineup isn't up yet, what are they thinking?
  19. Well, that was quite a game yesterday. Fun, even. Really fun. Seventeen runs worth of fun. And against the best team in the American League. The worst beat the best 17-5. How many of us thought that it would have been more likely a score the other way around? There was another score out there yesterday, too ... the Angels beat the Red Sox 21-2! While it wasn't the worst beating the best, it was still a case of the bad beating the good. It's just plain fun to see. Ever since David beat Goliath, we love to celebrate the 'little guy' taking it to the 'big guy.' And it's even more fun to celebrate when your team is the 'little guy.' But that was yesterday and today is today. So, what will today bring? No one knows. I started by checking into my At Bat app to see what they had to say in their preview. This is what I read about Hamels: Hamels is 4-0 with a 0.65 ERA in his last four starts after throwing seven scoreless innings in a win over the Yankees on Tuesday. Then I read this about Gibson: Gibson turned in his best outing of the season in his last start, tossing seven shoutout innings and striking out seven against the Yankees. Well, no wonder both pitchers did so well ... the Yankees must've been playing a split squad game! Heh. Gibson's start was against the White Sox. Living in Chicago, it took less than seconds for my brain to know what was wrong there. When you live in Chicago you remember the wins against the ChiSox. And, being a Twins fan this year, you remember the wins because there aren't that many to remember. Anyway, Hamels is going to be tough to beat if he keeps pitching as he has been, especially in his most recent starts. But if the game against the White Sox is an indicator that Gibson is tracking right, well, he could be tough to beat, too. And if the Twins continue their hitting from yesterday, and if the Rangers don't, well, we could have another win! If, if, if ... yes, spinowner, I know what your mother would say about ifs. So, the moral of the story is, you just never know. So hope for a win, prepare for a loss, and enjoy the game! Lineups: RANGERS Shin-Soo Choo (L) RF Ian Desmond [R) CF Nomar Mazara (L) LF Adrian Beltre [R) 3B Prince Fielder (L) DH Rougned Odor (L) 2B Elvis Andrus [R) SS Mitch Moreland (L) 1B Bobby Wilson [R) C Cole Hamels (L) P TWINS Eduardo Nunez [R) SS Joe Mauer (L) 1B Miguel Sano [R) 3B Brian Dozier [R) 2B Robbie Grossman (S) DH Max Kepler (L) RF Kurt Suzuki [R) C Eddie Rosario (L) LF Danny Santana (S) CF Kyle Gibson [R) P Game-time forecast: Sunny, 22% cloudy, 47% humidity, 0% chance of rain, 76 deg F, winds at 9mph from the SE ... a pretty nice day for watching a baseball game ... if you are in the sun. It could be ... not as warm, maybe even chilly-ish for summer ... if sitting in the shade.
  20. Good thing he didn't ... it's comments like that that could jinx a team!
  21. I've always liked Prince Fielder
  22. I don't think he walked him on purpose. He had to pitch to him and hoped for a playable out.
  23. heh ... love this ... bases loaded, no outs, Sano up ... you have to pitch to him
