  1. It's actually more of an issue with poverty and taking advantage of it, imo.
  2. Dominicans. It's not even close in being spread throughout Latin American players ... it's Dominicans who are being busted. In the DR steroids are legal and all one has to do is walk into any pharmacy for them. They are common place. I'm not saying that Polanco knew exactly what he was taking ... if he didn't, he should have known better; if he did, he should have known better. But until you casually throw out the race card ... and I'm not saying it's not racist ... but I'm saying you need to look further at exactly who is getting busted for this ... beyond just 'Latin American players' because it's predominately Dominicans.
  3. Yeah ... when do they get the results? Have they known this for several days or a couple weeks already? And just now announce it? Is that why Aybar is still here?
  4. Question - how soon does the team find out about these things? I'm just wondering, given Polanco's play so far in ST, if maybe his mind was on other things, and this was it?
  5. We have no depth at 3B ... imo. So if Sano is suspended ... not sure. Guess Esco starts there. While there is, well, depth at SS ... it's not quite ML ready. I think they'll roll with Adrianza as the starting SS and Esco will see plenty of reps there. And either Aybar or Gordon makes the team as utility. Ack. I guess we'll find out.
  6. I think Esco makes the plays he needs. Defensively Adrianza is better. I think Adrianza will play SS more regularly while Esco is the utility, but we'll see him in there more than we would otherwise. Not sure what this will do for Gordon or not; or Aybar or not. Ugh.
  7. Defensively, isn't Adrianza supposed to be, uh, good? I'd guess he would be the main replacement at SS with Esco jumping in? That said, Polanco has been having a rough spring, lots of errors so far. Maybe this time off gives him time to get it together. I've never been that high on him as a full-time SS but where do you go from here at this point?
  8. Not only that ... yet again ... it's someone from the DR. I'm not saying that in any kind of negative way, it's just a higher percentage of athletes from the DR that are the ones testing positive. If he needs a B12 and iron supplement, perhaps get it directly from the Twins.
  9. Yeah ... I see that whoever ends up in AAA ... we are going to need 2 or 3 of them sooner rather than later.
  10. Yeah, that's the other thing ... I don't know where he should be at at this point. Is not being able to make a fist and grip a ball behind the original timeline? Santana said progress is being made and he's being patient ... I just don't know. As I said, I'm concerned, but I wasn't optimistic about the timeline to begin with.
  11. How about ... 'Santana is making progress, yet still hasn't gripped a ball' <shrug> I think the original title doesn't tell the whole story, only the worst of the story.
  12. No, you weren't. People disagreed. It happens. And sometimes posters are the minority. People want to believe in the more optimistic outcome. So be it. But you were not informed that you were wrong. And I'm part of TD, so is van, and we think that was optimistic as well. So you aren't alone.
  13. Did you actually read the article? I found the title a bit misleading since reading this quote: “It’s just exercise right now,” Santana, the Twins’ top starter the past three seasons, said Sunday morning. “We just take it one day at a time. The good thing is each day we see progress.” Yeah, I'm concerned. But I think returning by the end of April was an optimistic prognosis to begin with.
  14. I think the writing was on the wall for some time, but especially after the Morrison signing. I always feel bad for these guys at this point because it's a long fought-for dream and I hope for Vargas it's not over yet. The one thing that makes this an 'awwww' moment for me is that he will miss out playing with the Twins when they are in PR. But, that's the reality of baseball ...
  15. I don't think they'd go after him had he just said it and went his way, except that he made it known to the media that he thought Machado would be a great addition and told him so. If he had just made his comment to Machado and went on his merry way, it would be what it is, benign. But then don't say so in the media. While yes, I get why it seems foolish, and it is in a way, but it's also not, in a way. Just don't advertise to the press ... that was the stupid part about it.
  16. This certainly is an off-season like we've never seen before.
  17. Or the link directly to MLBTR.
  18. After reading a couple articles, even the Yankees FO (Cashman) took this seriously and had a brief conversation with Judge about it ... basically saying, "Yeah, don't do that." Judge's comment was that he didn't know and now he does. What was probably said was ... 'Yeah, don't do or admit to that publicly. But go for it otherwise. <wink, wink>'
  19. Lol ... you could have just said: "Arm: yes, two of them."
  20. He'll go where there's the most money. End of story. At least for Harper. My impossible dream is Machado to the Twins. (Yes, I know ... I did say impossible dream.) I just flat out like everything about the guy and seeing him in pinstripes would just be the ultimate ... oxymoron ... for lack of a better phrase for it. That all said, back to the subject of tampering ... I don't know. It seems far fetched from what was reported, but could it be it was more than a casual comment than what is being reported? Or maybe your explanation is where it's at.
  21. Through the years there have been many players you couldn't imagine that with, and there they go. What's a few hair cuts and clean shaven face over a few years vs the millions he'd make? Yeah, dunno. And, actually, I don't really care about Harper; he can go wherever he wants. But I'd hate, hate, HATE to see Machado as a Yankee. (He's my favorite non-Twin player ) But the talk over the last year has pretty much been 'Harper to the Yankees' and the Yankees will 'buy' one of them, because that's what they do. Could they buy two?
  22. Do you there know the Yankees would/ could go after both Machado AND Harper? Ugh
  23. You got 'im! Thanks for signing up and drafting a prospect!
  24. Concur. I think because the players are front and center, the focus is on them. Owners have a natural deflection away from them and are able to keep it away from them.
