  1. Romaine anyone?
  2. I hope you know I'm mostly playing with you. Although I couldn't completely deny that there might be some subconscious indignation going on.
  3. Well, I thought that maybe your post was an example of the lone woman in the boardroom not being heard, then the big man comes along, says the same thing, and is heard. I mean ... there's your sexism. (And yes, I'm kidding .... or am I .... .... .... ) But I have commented for years that I don't see any unity among the left ... near or far ... and they do more to tear each other apart than finding common ground and unifying around that, even if individually we don't get everything we want in a candidate. So, my simple sentence was really more or less something I've been saying for a while and to me, that was but one example.
  4. Not if the other branches do their jobs. That's when we'll see the Constitution work or fail.
  5. Wasn't this theory mentioned in the course of this discussion already? I thought it was. I thought someone made the point that they thought perhaps this article was an example of the more liberal media source attacking a more mainstream Democrat in order to push a more liberal agenda? Or something like that.
  6. Because weather causes the flu?
  7. So, the high here today is 45 deg F. The overnight low tonight will be 15. The high tomorrow will be 21. That’s some crazy swing.
  8. The article I posted said that 17 teams had signed up, and 3 were in negotiations, as of last April. But how this is being used could vary; or if it's actually in use yet, too; or if it's only being used for one or a few players, rather than the whole team.
  9. Google is your friend, my friend. In a very broad search, I read this ... I only had time for quick and easy, so only clicked on one article, and didn’t have time to check the source, but I’m sure you could find more details if you took 10 or 15 minutes more than I did. But from this article it sounds like more than half the MLB teams use it to some degree.https://www.ozy.com/the-huddle/mlb-pitchers-have-a-new-ace-up-their-sleeves-radar-pitch-tracking/85893 And there are other technologies that have been used by other teams before Rapsodo, too.
  10. Did you even read the article or the bit Set quoted? The Twins are not the only team to be doing this. “The Twins are one of several teams to invest thousands of dollars in new technology to document players’ every move — on the mound, at the plate and in the field.” I agree you don’t want technology to be the only thing you are reliant on, but I don’t think that’s the case, or ever will b the case. They are just trying to use ALL the tools available to them.
  11. I'm glad these guys have an outlet other than baseball. He is a talented young man.
  12. It’s that. But I also think it’s an example of the liberal divide. The more liberal attacking the more moderate. While the Republicans sit back and let us. We’re doing their job for them. And as I indicated several posts above, the moderates attack the more liberal, too. And then we wonder why we lose. Because we spend so much time tearing each other down we forget about finding the common ground and finding a unified voice and message.
  13. Obama wasn’t a progressive. Look at his voting record and who his ‘friends’ were in the Senate. (Kerry, Kennedy [before he died] and Reid. And it was Kerry and Reid who really supported and encouraged his candidacy. That was as insider as it gets.) In terms of the politics and issues, he was as moderate as any of them, and even more so than Clinton, although not by much. What set him apart was his personal appeal and his message of hope, not any super progressive stance on the issues, just a sense of we could get things done. And then a mediocre healthcare policy, because it’s all that could pass, then 2010. Edit to add ... and don’t get me wrong, I was out in Grant Park on election night in 2008, elated and filled with hope. And if you knew me, you’d know that being in any crowd like that, is something that I hate and the least likely place you’d fine me, but yet, wanted to be there, and was, because I was that compelled.
  14. This is going to be the trick. It's always the trick with liberal voters. There was unity and enthusiasm behind Obama, even though he was slightly right of Hillary when you compare voting records. (Although not by much of any consequence; by their stance on the issues, and their records on the issues, they were very similar candidates in that regard.) The 'freshness' of Obama, and his appeal of hope, his over all character, and having just enough experience (enough that he knew how to appeal to and was supported by 'insiders') without being a longtime 'insider' himself, really carried him with very broad appeal. I hope we can find someone similar, who can appeal to the inside and outside of the party. And I hope that those who consider themselves liberal, but not part of the party core, will realize that bashing the core, because it's not exactly what they want, will result in another loss; and the same for those at the core - bashing the fringe because they might be 'too something' for them, will lose them the unity they need. But I won't hold my breath. I see it already from those who post on FB and what I read elsewhere ... 'leftists' complaining that the core is too far right, and the core complaining that the left is 'too left.' I don't think our ideologies are that dissimilar in what we ultimately want.
  15. I've actually read that elsewhere ... the driving turnout thing ... maybe even here. That she doesn't really have a broad name for herself in other areas of the country. She might do well in the Midwest (upper Midwest), but how would she fare outside Minnesota and the states bordering Minnesota? It's going to be an interesting field and I'll be reading up on various candidates. I know who I like 'right now' but that could very well change.
  16. I’m not a huge fan of HuffPo and don’t tend to share their articles much if at all, but this is a piece about Klobuchar a friend of mine shared. I haven’t seen or read anything similar from mainstream media, but if there is any truth to it, that wouldn’t be good. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/amy-klobuchar-abuse-staff-2020_us_5c5a1cb1e4b0871047588649?utm_campaign=hp_fb_pages&utm_medium=facebook&ncid=fcbklnkushpmg00000063&utm_source=main_fb&fbclid=IwAR0E4AneJD41fI_wZu2izCzrK9Ih2cLf8Q0UIGt9ENt0hW_RVQLZ-GXIPmw
  17. Yeah, I still don't give it a pass. You should still know from keep cold days is that when your body can't tolerate the cold, whatever temperature it is, how to dress for it. Get your layers on, man, and shut up about it already.
  18. What gets old for me is when people find out I was born and raised in Minnesota, they always say something along the lines of ... 'Oh, you must love this cold!' To which I usually respond, 'Uh, not really. I've just learned how to deal with it properly.' People laugh when they see me dressed for deep cold ... I'm layered and bundled to the point you can't see me under it all ... and I see their hatless heads and just say, 'Yeah, laugh, but your ears are going to fall off dressed as you are. Mine will remain in tact.' They still think I'm joking. Wonder how their frostbite feels now.
  19. I’d tread carefully here. Brock has throwing axes.
  20. Yes ... I'm aware. Which is why I clarified ... and added it to this article. But I see now it was removed. It's a weird thing the way articles and article threads are and aren't linked. The comments are linked, but sometimes the content or format doesn't transfer when the article thread is generated. And any tweak I put into the article thread goes away when the original article gets edited. So ... I'll add it ... again ... to help keep up the clarification. (Or perhaps one of the admins could put that line into the body of the article so that it transfers. Not that it's really needed, but, obviously for a few it is.) And I agree it's somewhat obvious ... because it's too ... 'What. The. Heck????'
  21. Just for a point of clarification in case a few of you missed it ... the tag line on this article reads: "Twins Daily is THRILLED to welcome Randball Stu as a weekly satirical contributor." Welcome, Stu!
  22. I was being slightly sarcastic throwing out the corn palace. Was just trying to think of an example of a kind of ... ‘big venue in a small town’ ... to compare the Surf Palace to. I guess I should have put impressive in quotes.
  23. Is the Surf Ballroom as impressive as the Corn Palace?
  24. Saw this little blurb: https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/the-day-the-music-died-memorial-clear-lake-iowa?utm_medium=atlas-page&utm_source=facebook.com&fbclid=IwAR2Y6Ju82w-lJnZm92OFJRiAm5WV1z0_e71In1iuEyf6YyQjPdNb6vP4QOk&fbclid=IwAR2gnbILmM2-LM4lEhffcG14d9yjJgIYQOXRFoyWVxm3cWxcdtb4IIMs5uY&fbclid=IwAR2WWTplP3r58wyIfD-NcCXRzQ7gI2q226iU94ObG2S9_L41vaPgg2xgAxo Has anyone visited these glasses?
