  1. Lol ... personally, I wouldn’t want a team named the Spiders, or Spyders. I mean, ewww. I just brought that up because of the team’s history.
  2. Cleveland should go back to being the Spiders!
  3. The morass that is the copyright laws. Being in the music industry, all I can say is 'Ugh!' and 'I feel for you!' It's all about who they think they can get away with punishing, fining and extracting money out of. Well, okay, I do think artists are entitled to make money from their own music, and they deserve the protection of misuse and free shares, but some of them lose their own copyrights to those with more money. So, even if you could beg forgiveness and permission from the band, they may not even have control over their own copyrights anymore. Too bad you don't have a direct connection to them to ask, but it would still end up being a licensing mess because someone somewhere would make it so. In the end, I think posting to YouTube is an easier process. (I could be wrong about this, but have some kind of vague recollection about a conference session I attended 4 years ago that discussed streaming options and various platforms.) Anyway ... glad you are back.
  4. Yeah, this OldLady is pleased to see how many of you finally grew up. Many. Not all.
  5. Pretty much. I guess what I was getting at was since no one really knew the name attachment, just drop that and the award is what most thought it was anyway.
  6. I didn't know about it before starting in this thread. And didn't really know much about Landis, either. So, I'm learning. And from what I've learned about his history from others and from what I've read on my own, and his history in baseball, I don't think naming the MVP award after him is appropriate. His history in the sport is there, ensconced, for all the read and draw their own conclusions. To me it doesn't matter that he came from a different time period, his actions then are not appropriate for today. All imo, of course. I'm not sure I would go so far as to petition to rename the MVP award, I mean, I didn't even know about it before. And maybe because I didn't know about before, and many others likely didn't either, is more reason to just drop the name from the award because, eh, so what. However, put the question in a different way ... if there was no name attached to the MVP award, and they wanted to call it something, what would you suggest? Would you name it for Landis? Would you not name it at all? Is there another or a thing to name it for that might be better?
  7. Moderator note: The off-topic tangents have been removed or edited. It's easy to reach for these tangents, and understand how they are related, but keep this focused on Landis and the MVP award ... or if there are other awards in baseball that might also be pertinent to this discussion ... so we don't end up in something completely not baseball related.
  8. That wasn't my question, nor was it me stating any opinion. I wanted to know who knew the award was named for him BEFORE reading this thread. That's my question.
  9. I still want to know who here knew the MVP award was named for Landis prior to this discussion?
  10. So, you think his name should remain on the MVP award?
  11. I'm curious ... how many of you knew the award had Landis' name on it?
  12. Moderator note: The bolded is the topic. If you want to broaden it to other awards in baseball, okay, but please stick to it instead of introducing all the 'whataboutisms' you can think of. They do nothing but derail the subject and delegitimize and dismiss the point being made.
  13. Ash cleared it up nicely.
  14. Do you really think that's a comparable example?
  15. Carl Reiner died, of natural causes
  16. Their TV team is pretty good, too ... now that Harrelson is gone.
  17. lol ... if the starting trickle is a flood ... a wee bit of hyperbole ... but ... don't know what this leak will become.
  18. If you want to talk Coronavirus, and just Coronavirus, take it to the Sports Bar. If you want to equate risk, health and safety concerns in the game of baseball, then talk about it in terms of baseball. It's that simple. Don't thread jack. Moderators, too, please.
  19. okay ... way to make it about everything under the sun ... heh ... it could be a lot of those things ... however ... most of the 'big' countries in the world have been affected. Most everyone handled things different. It's a large gap to cover from 4% to 25%, even if China were honest about deaths. Simply put, we have a disproportionate number of deaths, and I don't think it balances out much ... maybe it drops to 15% ... it's still disproportionate. And it likely has to do with a lot of what you said. Nonetheless, we have a disproportionate amount of deaths. And yes, I think it has to do, in part, with Americans not doing their part. But so far we haven't seen a spike from the protests as was expected. It may still come. But we have seen spikes in places that opened early and protocols, such as mask wearing, aren't not being followed.
  20. The U.S. has approx. 4% of the world’s population, and has approx. 25% of the coronavirus deaths. Not sure what that says specifically, but I have my opinions on that.
  21. There are things missing on that comparison chart, though, but still, in general, it’s a pretty telling thing.
  22. It's not just the players, though ... it's everyone around them ... families, trainers, on-field staff, equipment managers, etc ... I don't think players are that high risk for getting seriously ill because they are young and in good shape; however, even that isn't a guarantee, but everyone else around them, though ... hopefully teams are as careful about that as they are about the players themselves. I don't know all the 'rules, regs and protocols' baseball is implementing, but i'm skeptical of how this will play out. From my perspective being in a performance industry, and the guidelines we are faced with ... it just makes me skeptical that baseball is all that different.
  23. I follow him on IG ... he posts a lot of food pictures ... really good food pictures.
